While a lot of B2B search engine marketing experts squabble over how important meta tags are in 
today's SEO efforts, the fact is, they provide pertinent information to search engines about what a 
given page is all about. 
Remember, search engines are just robots; the only way they know what a page is all about is if you 
tell them. Meta tags do this. And while it's not glamorous, sexy or as touted as other SEO factors, 
meta data is one of the ways search engines find and categorize pages on the net. 
If optimizing your meta tags only drives 1%, 3% or 5% more traffic, wouldn't you consider it a 
worthwhile effort? 
Especially as once they're done, they're done; it's not like you have to continuously update them. 
Make Effective Use of Your Home Page 
A lot of B2B search marketing experts don't make proper use of the home page. It's understandable, 
as many want to keep a clean design and usher prospects on to the meat of the site. 
This can be a mistake. Take the time to at least tell prospects at least what your business is all 
about. To do this and meet your goal of keeping a slick, clean home page, think of this page as your 
"10 second elevator pitch" speech. And, be sure to use traffic-pulling keywords in the copy.

Stay away from anything that slows the page down and/or will make prospects want to click away 
(eg, flash, animation, etc.). Remember, when most web users are surfing they are looking for 
information. 
They don't care about your flash show or the cool graphics (that take forever to load). They want the 
info they're looking for and they want it fast. And, not for nothing, one of the factors that Google 
uses to ranks sites is load time. Slower loading sites don't rank as well as those with fast load times.
