PART 1
Conflict is a clash between two opposing group or individuals mainly caused from
disagreement, tension, struggle and so on. Conflict is shown in many ways as a variety of
forms from voice tones to bombs. The conflict can be as simple as just teasing each other or
as complicate as division of country.
For example, Korea is well known as a divided country as North Korea and South Korea.
After establishment of both South and North Korea, there was Korean War between two
Koreas started on June 25, 1950 and stopped in 1953 with The Korean Armistice Agreement
signed by UN Forces, Koreas and China. Since then, there have been a lot of events between
North and South and finally, in 2000, the South Korean president of that time, Kim Dae Jung
created Sunshine Policy toward the North and this policy brings greater political contact
between two Koreas, several high-profile business ventures and brief meetings of separated
family members. However, despite the effort of Kim Dae Jung, North’s aspect toward South
is quite offensive, as North threatened several times in war-like ways.
Because the movement of North keeps the tension over the Han peninsula and two Koreas are
holding still on-going war which is just stopped not ended, they are on conflict. A war-like
event still happens between two Koreas. The recent one, for example, was a naval warfare
caused by North side toward an island of South called Yeon-Pyoung Island. There wasn’t any
big reason for doing that, but to state any reason, it could be the border line crossing the
middle of Han peninsula or according to what North says; South did military drill toward
North territory, while it was actually toward South itself. From the aspect of North, we can
see that this conflict will be long-lasting one.

yeonpyuong island

PART 2
The main causes of the conflict between North and South are difference in political ideology
and misplaced reactions to some offense. Because different countries with different political
ideology ruled North and South Korea after Japanese rule, the two Koreas have completely
different political system. After the term of Japanese rule, The Soviet Union entered
Pyongyang while The United States entered Seoul which made North Korea as a dictator led
Communist State and South Korea as Republic with strong Capitalistic structure. The scenes
from North Korea and South Korea look so different that we cannot even say they are from
same peninsula that shares similar culture and almost same language. As I said, North Korea
is dictator led Communist State that the eternal president controls every part of every single
person’s life and the leader of North Korea is considered as father by the citizen. On the
contrary, South Korea is Republic that every single person has his or her own life. Since the
type of government affects over the country and those different types of government create
different opinion, the conflict has started and been on-going until now. The thing that makes
their differences on political ideology is that North Korean cannot even think of speaking
about their nation’s politic and the right of leader is passed down in a certain family having
only one idea of leading country influence while South has many parties that participate in
politic which means they can have more than one idea on their politic and feedbacks.
Secondly, misplaced reactions to some offence are the other main causes, since there were
some war-like events between North and South caused from small mistake that one of them
made, but the other might think it is starter of fight. The naval warfare in Yeon-Pyeong island
was also started with just military drill of South Korea. North said that it was toward their
side and that is why they attacked back to South and caused lots of residents of the island die
and lose their places. It is sure that it was just military drill and actually was not toward North,
but the North thought that it was warning of war toward them. Even if it was warning of war,
North could try to talk with South or make sure about what is going on before attacking back
right away. This kind of events has been occurred several times before Yeon-Pyeong war-like
fare.

economic and govern difference between north and south korea
PART 3
The two main reasons why the conflict between South and North Korea have escalated are
miscommunication and retaliation harder to an offense.
Actually, it is fact that Korea had been a Country over the 5000 years before North and South
were separated. After the war, both countries have been grown in significantly different rate
and the fast one is South while the North is still in their own world called communism.
Because of the war experience between them caused many people dead and distraction, they
could not believe in each other anymore and be aware of each other excessively. This
situation causes poor communications and make both countries react against any tiny event
occurred between them instead of trying to communicate.
The other thing that causes poor communication between the two countries is that the
leadership classes are blocking the communications between North and South. In the North,
since the leadership classes hold vested interests while citizens die from hunger, the
leadership classes are afraid of losing what they are holding now after reunification. If the
South and North are united, the unbelievable gap between the High classes and low classes
will be disclosed to the fact that they were living in cage-like country without any rights they
could have and the high classes will lose their vested interests. As a result of that, the
leadership classes of North blocking communication with South which brings citizens’
realization over the South’s wealth and protestation against leader classes. One of the ways to
block the communication between Koreas is bringing tension so that the citizen stand against
South and this also makes the conflict escalate.
The thing that made the war-fare worse in every time was that each side reacted harder and
harder before one of them stopped and called for reconciliation or third country or UN
involved in to stop it. Mostly, North started attacking with misunderstanding, but the South
Korea attack back harder, saying it was for protecting themselves. Maybe it is because the
South felt their own pain much more that North’s as people do or they cannot even feel or
know each other’s pain. North said that they never knew that many residents of the Yeon-
Peyong island after the naval war-fare. By seeing what the North said, it is possible that both
sides are not able to know how others feel and react harder than they actually get.

PART 4

One of the ways in which the conflict could be resolved is by simply listening to each other
which can be the basic steps of reunification which requires attentions and efforts a lot. Both
sides of Korea have to listen to each side, respecting each other. Every little warfare
happened between them over the last years was caused with events that we cannot even
consider as a motive of war. It is possible to say that it was because they are lack of
communication without listening to each other. If they tried to solve any tiny conflict by
conversation instead of small war which still made people dead. Therefore, it is obvious that
listening to each side and respecting each other are the first step to end this conflict by
bringing reunification.
The specific proposal that I found from research was 74 joint statements that both North
South Korea agreed. Its content was that they do not fight each other anymore and as I said,
both agreed. However, it was failed in that some small war occurred between both countries.
One of examples of someone tried to reduce tension was Dae-Jung Kim from South Korea.
As the first part says, he established sunshine policy toward North, hoping reunification.
Through that special policy, Koreas became so close that the dispersed families were able to
meet at the middle of Koreas. Following Dae-Jung Kim, Moo-Hyun Roh continued on
Sunshune policy.
The article that we talked about in class called “The one who cast the stone..” tells much
about this conflict. The article says that people usually react back harder than they actually
get and cannot feel others’ pain. Like the people that the article says, the North and South
also attack back to each other harder than they actually get, not know other’s pain and loss.

Conflict case study

  • 1. PART 1 Conflict is a clash between two opposing group or individuals mainly caused from disagreement, tension, struggle and so on. Conflict is shown in many ways as a variety of forms from voice tones to bombs. The conflict can be as simple as just teasing each other or as complicate as division of country. For example, Korea is well known as a divided country as North Korea and South Korea. After establishment of both South and North Korea, there was Korean War between two Koreas started on June 25, 1950 and stopped in 1953 with The Korean Armistice Agreement signed by UN Forces, Koreas and China. Since then, there have been a lot of events between North and South and finally, in 2000, the South Korean president of that time, Kim Dae Jung created Sunshine Policy toward the North and this policy brings greater political contact between two Koreas, several high-profile business ventures and brief meetings of separated family members. However, despite the effort of Kim Dae Jung, North’s aspect toward South is quite offensive, as North threatened several times in war-like ways. Because the movement of North keeps the tension over the Han peninsula and two Koreas are holding still on-going war which is just stopped not ended, they are on conflict. A war-like event still happens between two Koreas. The recent one, for example, was a naval warfare caused by North side toward an island of South called Yeon-Pyoung Island. There wasn’t any big reason for doing that, but to state any reason, it could be the border line crossing the middle of Han peninsula or according to what North says; South did military drill toward North territory, while it was actually toward South itself. From the aspect of North, we can see that this conflict will be long-lasting one. Media : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBzNUsILa_0 – about naval warfare in yeonpyuong island PART 2 The main causes of the conflict between North and South are difference in political ideology and misplaced reactions to some offense. Because different countries with different political ideology ruled North and South Korea after Japanese rule, the two Koreas have completely different political system. After the term of Japanese rule, The Soviet Union entered Pyongyang while The United States entered Seoul which made North Korea as a dictator led Communist State and South Korea as Republic with strong Capitalistic structure. The scenes from North Korea and South Korea look so different that we cannot even say they are from same peninsula that shares similar culture and almost same language. As I said, North Korea
  • 2. is dictator led Communist State that the eternal president controls every part of every single person’s life and the leader of North Korea is considered as father by the citizen. On the contrary, South Korea is Republic that every single person has his or her own life. Since the type of government affects over the country and those different types of government create different opinion, the conflict has started and been on-going until now. The thing that makes their differences on political ideology is that North Korean cannot even think of speaking about their nation’s politic and the right of leader is passed down in a certain family having only one idea of leading country influence while South has many parties that participate in politic which means they can have more than one idea on their politic and feedbacks. Secondly, misplaced reactions to some offence are the other main causes, since there were some war-like events between North and South caused from small mistake that one of them made, but the other might think it is starter of fight. The naval warfare in Yeon-Pyeong island was also started with just military drill of South Korea. North said that it was toward their side and that is why they attacked back to South and caused lots of residents of the island die and lose their places. It is sure that it was just military drill and actually was not toward North, but the North thought that it was warning of war toward them. Even if it was warning of war, North could try to talk with South or make sure about what is going on before attacking back right away. This kind of events has been occurred several times before Yeon-Pyeong war-like fare. http://owensenglishnews.blogspot.com/2008/11/korean-war-1950-1953.html - Korean war http://ginacobb.typepad.com/gina_cobb/2008/07/what-is-the-dif.html economic and govern difference between north and south korea PART 3 The two main reasons why the conflict between South and North Korea have escalated are miscommunication and retaliation harder to an offense. Actually, it is fact that Korea had been a Country over the 5000 years before North and South were separated. After the war, both countries have been grown in significantly different rate and the fast one is South while the North is still in their own world called communism. Because of the war experience between them caused many people dead and distraction, they could not believe in each other anymore and be aware of each other excessively. This situation causes poor communications and make both countries react against any tiny event occurred between them instead of trying to communicate.
  • 3. The other thing that causes poor communication between the two countries is that the leadership classes are blocking the communications between North and South. In the North, since the leadership classes hold vested interests while citizens die from hunger, the leadership classes are afraid of losing what they are holding now after reunification. If the South and North are united, the unbelievable gap between the High classes and low classes will be disclosed to the fact that they were living in cage-like country without any rights they could have and the high classes will lose their vested interests. As a result of that, the leadership classes of North blocking communication with South which brings citizens’ realization over the South’s wealth and protestation against leader classes. One of the ways to block the communication between Koreas is bringing tension so that the citizen stand against South and this also makes the conflict escalate. The thing that made the war-fare worse in every time was that each side reacted harder and harder before one of them stopped and called for reconciliation or third country or UN involved in to stop it. Mostly, North started attacking with misunderstanding, but the South Korea attack back harder, saying it was for protecting themselves. Maybe it is because the South felt their own pain much more that North’s as people do or they cannot even feel or know each other’s pain. North said that they never knew that many residents of the Yeon- Peyong island after the naval war-fare. By seeing what the North said, it is possible that both sides are not able to know how others feel and react harder than they actually get. http://www.tpreport.com/46252 - 부익부 빈익빈 http://ask.nate.com/qna/view.html?n=6300742 http://blog.paran.com/blog/detail/postBoard.kth?pmcId=kthsjy&blogDataId=40704527&href Mark= PART 4 One of the ways in which the conflict could be resolved is by simply listening to each other which can be the basic steps of reunification which requires attentions and efforts a lot. Both sides of Korea have to listen to each side, respecting each other. Every little warfare happened between them over the last years was caused with events that we cannot even consider as a motive of war. It is possible to say that it was because they are lack of communication without listening to each other. If they tried to solve any tiny conflict by conversation instead of small war which still made people dead. Therefore, it is obvious that
  • 4. listening to each side and respecting each other are the first step to end this conflict by bringing reunification. The specific proposal that I found from research was 74 joint statements that both North South Korea agreed. Its content was that they do not fight each other anymore and as I said, both agreed. However, it was failed in that some small war occurred between both countries. One of examples of someone tried to reduce tension was Dae-Jung Kim from South Korea. As the first part says, he established sunshine policy toward North, hoping reunification. Through that special policy, Koreas became so close that the dispersed families were able to meet at the middle of Koreas. Following Dae-Jung Kim, Moo-Hyun Roh continued on Sunshune policy. The article that we talked about in class called “The one who cast the stone..” tells much about this conflict. The article says that people usually react back harder than they actually get and cannot feel others’ pain. Like the people that the article says, the North and South also attack back to each other harder than they actually get, not know other’s pain and loss. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10131683 http://carnegieendowment.org/publications/index.cfm?fa=view&id=40872 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CN1a9WIvxoI http://acidcow.com/pics/10108-the-life-in-north-korea-120-pics.html
