Despite advances in software design and static analysis techniques, software remains incredibly complicated and difficult to reason about. Understanding highly-concurrent, kernel-level, and intentionally-obfuscated programs are among the problem domains that spawned the field of dynamic program analysis. More than mere debuggers, the challenge of dynamic analysis tools is to be able record, analyze, and replay execution without sacrificing performance. This talk will provide an introduction to the dynamic analysis research space and hopefully inspire you to consider integrating these techniques into your own internal tools.

Kotlin is new JVM language still cooking in Jetbrains kitchen. It looks awesome compared to Java 7, but now, with Java 8 in the field, the question arises: “Does Kotlin still have enough advantages over Java to attract Java developers?” Similar questions could be asked for other JVM languages like Scala, Ceylon, Clojure. We tried to compare new features of Java 8 with corresponding features of Kotlin and see what Kotlin offers beyond features existing in latest Java release.

Things like Infrastructure as Code, Service Discovery and Config Management can and have helped us to quickly build and rebuild infrastructure but we haven't nearly spend enough time to train our self to review, monitor and respond to outages. Does our platform degrade in a graceful way or what does a high cpu load really mean? What can we learn from level 1 outages to be able to run our platforms more reliably. We all love infrastructure as code, we automate everything ™. However making sure all of our infrastructure assets are monitored effectively can be slow and resource intensive multi stage process. During this talk we will investigate how we can setup nomad cluster that can automatically scale our infrastructure both horizontally as vertically to be able to cope with increased demand by users/ This talk will focus on making sure we on configuring Nomad and its new autoscaler component to be able to make data driven decisions about scaling nomad jobs in or out to fit current customers usage.

As more and more web applications integrate with third-party APIs and other external data, processing those external resources in the background more and more important. A simple job runner is a great start, however as your load increases, you very quickly outgrew that simplistic queuing system. We will cover where getting started using Resque and Redis, how to test your jobs, when it makes sense to use Resque, implementations of Resque in other languages, and look how I've used Resque.

Cross Site Scripting Defense is difficult. The Java Programming language does not provide native key defenses necessary to throughly prevent XSS. As technologies such as Content Security Policy emerge, we still need pragmatic advice to stop XSS in legacy applications as well as new applications using traditional Java frameworks. First generation encoding libraries had both performance and completeness problems that prevent developers from through, production-safe XSS defense. This talk will deeply review the OWASP Java Encoder Project and the OWASP HTML Sanitizer Project and give detailed code samples highlighting their use. Additional advice on next-generation JavaScript and JSON workflows using the OWASP JSON Sanitizer will also be reviewed.
