4. Clean and green for all
In this case the people are educated and
aware of the situation in their government,
in order to decrease corruption. Next,
natural parks will be expanded, which will
be followed by ecotourism.
Community based organization, in order to
allow transparency in the system. Finally,
sustainable energy and infrastructures will
be developed further.
5. Dam with bypass
Dam with bypass
And hydroelectricity
Expansion of natural

helophytes
6. Measures
Create awareness trough education
Prevent corruption
Sustainability certificate
Promote ecotourism
Produce green energy
Improve water quality
Improve nature values
Improve drinking water system
7. Worked out measures
Increase population of otters (lutra lutra)
Increase natural values
Improve existing dams
Fish passages
Sediment transport
Improve waste water treatment
Improve water quality
Make the local people aware
9. River Basin Forum
A meeting for all the communities
involved in the Guadalete river basin
One or two people of each
municipality, depending on the size
Discuss issues concerning:
Guadalete River Basin
Sustainability Certificate
Voluntary Work
10. Sustainability Certificate
Funded by Greenpeace
Prevent pollution and abuse of Earth’s
ocean, land, air and fresh water.
Goals:
Local Products
Smart Energy Management
Recycle, Reuse and Cradle-to-Cradle
11. Voluntary Work
Education (awareness)
Schools
Communities
In Field
Cleaning up the river
Mandatory field trip for schools
12. Transparency
Information campaigns (awareness)
Promote voting within the local
population
Educate children on the governmental
system and votes
13. Political Education
4-5 times a year (extra in voting times)
Adjusted to age of the student
Non biased information
14. Plan B
If the volunteers to not come in, two
possible solutions have been looked into:
Enlisting the help of the “Ecologistas en
Action” and/or the action group “Delfins”
Getting Universities to help. The students
would be provided with free credits for
every class or information campaign they
do
18. General bypass requirements
Capacity fish passage 2-5% of annual
discharge
Lure flow must be strong, but not turbulent
0.8 – 2.0 m/s velocity
Erosion resistant bottom and walls
19. Waste water treatment
• 13 WWTP in the lower
part of the river basin.
• 5 villages without
WWTP
• Only 3 WWTP comply
with the requirements
• 13 WWTP in the upper part
of the river basin.
• 3 villages without WWTP
• Only 3 WWTP comply with
the requirements
20. Possible solution
Helophytes filters:
Low costs
Water quality improvement
Habitat for fish and wildlife
Tourism (birdwatching)
Aesthetics and landscape enhancement
21. Helophytes
Blue flag iris
10- 80cm
Attractive flower
Broad leaf cattail
1.5 – 3 m
Attractive flower
Spatterdock:
5-12 cm high
tolerates fluctuating
water levels.

The goal with this organization is to get everybody involved as much as possible, as well as increasing the transparency and diminishing the corruption within the governmental system. The Management of the Sustainability certificate will be a the River Basin Forum Level. They will have to decide, which companies are to be awarded with the certificate or not. The voluntary work is managed at a municipality level, so that each community can organize itself. In the following paragraphs, a description of the important points of this figure will be provided.River Basin Forum - A meeting for all the communities involved in the Guadalete river basin- One or two people of each municipality, depending on the size- Discuss issues concerning:- Guadalete River Basin- Sustainability Certificate- Voluntary Work The Goal of the River Basin Forum is to involve as much as possible the communities in the decision making that concerns the Guadalete River Basin. It also establishes an extra stepping stone between the Regional Government, which will hopefully increase the transparency and the communication between the government the municipalities and therefore the local population as well. Sustainability Certificate - Funded by Greenpeace- Prevent pollution and abuse of Earth’s ocean, land, air and fresh water.- Goals:- Local Products- Smart Energy Management- Recycle, Reuse and Cradle-to-Cradle The main goal of the Sustainability certificate will be to promote the region as green, sustainable and clean. The small initial funding that would be required for this certificate would be provided by Greenpeace. The group would like get Greenpeace to sponsor this certificate, because one of their main goals is to “prevent pollution and abuse of Earth’s ocean, land, air and fresh water”.The certificate would provide proof to the public if the companies provide local products, if they have a smart energy management, in other words no waste of energy, efficient measures and use of green energy. Also if a company recycles, reuses or has cradle-to-cradle systems, they will be able to have this certificate next to their company name or logo. Each company that would be interested in this certificate would have to pay a small fee each year. This fee would have to be established by the River Basin Forum, but it has to stay small, otherwise nobody would be interested (for example 50 euros every year). The reason for this, is that this certificate, once it becomes a bit popular could yield a large revenue for the companies who doe have the logo.Voluntary Work - Education (awareness)- Schools- Communities- In Field- Cleaning up the river- Mandatory field trip for schools The voluntary work is a very important part of this vision. Volunteers, organized by the municipality will go to schools and their community, in order to inform the people about the following points:- The environment of the Guadalete River Basin and sustainability- The government, voting and any other issues that might concern the government, in order to try and get them more involved. The in field voluntary work would have as a goal to promote the ideas of “green and clean”. People would go out into the environment, especially the river, in order to clean it up. The schools would have a mandatory field trip, to clean up or research the Guadalete river basin, which would in turn increase the kid’s awareness towards the river and sustainability. Transparency - Information campaigns (awareness)- Promote voting within the local population- Educate children on the governmental system and votes Finally, the goal of the transparency would be to increase the awareness of the citizens towards their government and decrease corruption. The three points mentioned above would be taken care of by the people doing the individual work. They would not only promote the river’s environment and sustainability, but as well information campaigns about the government and voting. A mandatory class for the school systems will be put into place. This class will be held three times a year (to be discussed by the municipality) and would inform the children about their governmental system, issues it might have and voting as well. Extra information and education concerning this subject will be provided during campaigning and voting periods.
