                                          Mountain Gorillas
There are three types of gorillas living in different parts of Africa. They are the
Western Lowland Gorilla (gorilla gorilla), the Eastern Lowland Gorilla (gorilla graueri) and the
Mountain Gorilla (gorilla berengei).
There are only small differences between the Mountain Gorillas and Lowland Gorillas.
The Mountain Gorillas have adapted to living in the high mountains of the Virunga Volcanoes
and the Bwindi National Park in Uganda. As a result, the Mountain Gorillas have longer hair,
wider mouths, larger noses, bigger chests, shorter arms and shorter, wider hands and feet
than the Lowland Gorillas.
Mountain Gorillas are vegetarian. They eat about 200 types of leaves, flowers, plants,
fruit and some insects. Gorillas do not drink water. They get all the water they need from the
leaves and other things they eat. They eat a lot. Male gorillas eat about 23 kg every day.
They sleep a lot, too. They usually sleep from about six o’clock in the evening until six
or eight o’clock the next morning. During the day, they eat, play, sleep and travel through the
jungle. Gorillas are nomadic and can travel up to 1.83 km a day. They build new nests each
evening in trees or on the ground.
Mountain Gorillas live in family groups of 3-30. They learn from their mothers and
other adults what to eat, how to behave and how to look after their young. They care for

their young very well. They are shy and gentle animals. The only time a male gorilla is
dangerous and aggressive is to protect their family – especially the babies and young gorillas.
Mountain Gorillas are usually quiet. However, they can make about 25 different noises
and each noise has a meaning. They make a certain grunting noise when they are happy. They
make a different noise when they are curious about something and want to find out what it is.
They make one of their loudest noises when they think there is some danger.
                                                                          (adapted from Challenges 2)

                                  An Ideal English Teacher

There are many criteria of an ideal English teacher. In my opinion, an ideal English teacher is a teacher who
has capability, responsibility, and good personality.
By his or her capability, he or she will be able to transfer the knowledge successfully. The
capability involves capability of delivering knowledge, pronouncing well, transferring original English culture,
and making good relationship with the students.
He/she also has to have responsibility, especially to be responsible for the truth or accuracy of knowledge
and information related to English. It won't make the students get misinformation, such as in pronunciation,
structure and the English culture. He or she should also be responsible in giving score.
The third criterion of an ideal teacher is he or she should have good personality. By his or her
good personality, he or she will be a model for his or her students. He or she must be able to perform his or her
role as the facilitator in learning process. If he or she can do them well, he or she will be respected by
his or her students for not only his or her expertise but also his or her good manner or personality.
The three criterions must be owned by an English teacher who wants to be an ideal teacher.

                               STATE OF THE EARTH-THE FACTS

1995 was the warmest year on record, and the ten hottest years in recorded human history have all
been in the 1980 and 1990s. The earth has this century undergone the fastest warming since the end
of the last Ice Age around 10.000 years ago.

The major impact on the atmosphere is the release of carbon dioxide throughout burning fossil fuels
such as oil and coal, which creates a greenhouse effect. A warmer world would bring higher sea
level as well as more frequent floods, droughts and hurricanes.
