Preterite Tense of -ER/-IR verb conjugation notes!

1. Preterit of –er / -ir verbs
The preterite is used to talk about what happened
at a specific point in the past. To form the preterite
of –er and –ir add the these endings to the
verb’s stem.

2. Yo volví

3. tú volviste

4. El/ella/usted
volvió

5. Nosotros (as)
volvimos

6. Vosotros (as)
volvisteis

7. ellos
ellas volvieron
ustedes

8. yo escribí nosotros(as) escribimos
tú escribiste vosotros(as) escribisteis

él escribió ellos escribieron
ella ellas
** Notice: Regular –er and –ir verbs have
the same endings in the preterite. Like –ar
verbs, there are no stem changes in the
preterite for er verbs.

9. The verbs ver and dar have regular
preterite endings but do NOT have
accents!!

10. Ver: to see/watch Dar: to give
