The park includes one of the top ranked golf
courses in the country, and an indoor tennis
center.
There are 15 elementary schools, 5 middle
schools, and 4 high schools. There are 6
private elementary schools and 2 private high
schools. It is home to High Point University
which was established in 1924. Guilford
Technical Community College has a satellite
campus located in the city.
The first furniture factory opened in 1879, and
many more followed. Now, High Point is known
as the "Furniture Capital of the World", because
of it's furniture manufacturing, and twice a year
International Home Furnishing Market that
attracts over 100,000 exhibitors and buyers
from all fifty states and 110 countries.
High Point is also known as "North Carolina's
International City". Bio-tech, Pharmaceutical,
Distribution and Warehousing businesses came
later, diversifying the business climate.
The High Point Public Library contains almost
400,000 books, music recordings, videotapes,
audio books, periodicals, and newspapers.
Piedmont Triad International Airport is 15 miles
from downtown.
