Well, it is not dissimilar to a giant vacuum cleaner. In order to collect and remove the waste we install a network of pipes, connecting all buildings in the area (point at the pipe system). Close to the buildings, or inside the buildings we install so called waste inlets for the residents to drop off their waste (point at the inlets). One waste inlet per waste stream. The waste is stored in the inlet underground until collection (point at the valve). At the end f the pipe system we install, what we call a collection terminal. This is where the waste is air-transported to. At certain fixed intervalls during the day, or at need, the collection process is initiated. The process starts with the fans in the terminal being activated. This creates an underpreasure in the pipe system. Then an air inlet valve close to the inlet first to be emptied is opened, letting air into the pipe. When the air has reached a set velocity, the waste is released in the inlet and air-transported all the way to the terminal where it is stored in a container. A simple process, taking only seconds to complete. www.envac.net

The mobile system is particularly attractive for lower density housing. The collection process is very similar to that of Envac’s stationary system. The waste is transported by air at great velocity under ground. Both outdoor and indoor inlets can be used.

Optibag is a well tried system for the handling of source separated household waste. It is both simple and cost efficient to install and use. When introducing more fractions or increasing the quality of the sorting in other ways, it is easy to add new colours to the system. The Optibag system is a different waste handling technology where waste is separated by using differently coloured bags for different waste streams/fractions. These bags are all thrown into the same bin or Envac inlet. At an Optibag plant the co-mingled bags are separated and put into separate containers at great speed. The process works by optical identification of the bags. The technology is ideal for waste separation where space for separate waste bbins or chute is a problem.
