All About Training To Be An Audiologist
1. All about Training to Be an Audiologist
The job an audiologist does isn’t an easy
one, and we want you to understand what
education and experiences your audiologist
has gone through before getting to work
with you. Being an audiologist isn’t as easy
as letting a computer perform a test and
converting the results into fitting for
standard hearing aids. The training consists of several steps:
1. Audiologist Education: Audiologists earn a bachelor’s degree
before enrolling in a Doctor of Audiology program, also known as
an Au.D. Degree. This is a four-year program with specific
training in audiology. Candidates for a degree learn how the ears
work, what sorts of problems people can have with hearing, how
to test for them, and what treatments are available. Audiologists
also take continuing education classes throughout their careers to
keep up on the latest developments in the field, including high-
tech solutions to hearing problems.
2. Audiologist Accreditation: All practicing audiologists must be
licensed by the state, and requirements vary from one state to
another. In addition, many audiologists have the Certificate of
Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) or a certification
through the American Board of Audiology. These certificates and
accreditation’s ensure that the audiologist has a functional
knowledge in each area, including giving and interpreting hearing
tests, providing hearing aid advice, and fitting hearing devices.

2. 3. Audiologist Skills and Experience: The last part of training
involves getting practical skills and experience needed to see
patients on a regular basis. All audiologists have had hundreds of
hours of supervised experience in a clinical setting before they
get licensed. This experience under a licensed audiologist ensures
that each practitioner has developed the skills needed to
communicate with patients, recommend treatments, and provide
high-quality patient care.
