The Plantations Act of 1951 and the Tamilnadu Plantations Labour Rules of 1955 aim to provide welfare provisions and regulate working conditions for plantation workers in India. The acts apply to tea, coffee, rubber, or other plantations of 5 hectares or more with 15 or more employees. They require plantations to register and provide facilities like housing, education, healthcare (canteens, creches), and recreation for workers. The rules also establish an advisory board to support welfare programs and require plantations to appoint labor welfare officers to ensure workers' rights and welfare are upheld.
