2. Overview In my music video I have included a few elements from the theory of Postmodernism. This theory has many aspects to it however, there are several simple concepts that can easily be found in any form of media. These include: homage pastiche non-linear narratives self-reference hyperreality parody intertextuality
3. But what about my video? My video is an example of just such a text which displays elements of Postmodernism. Most obviously I have used a non-linear narrative...
4. The video starts in the present, with the guitarist in his bedroom... ...but then goes back to the past with the friends meeting in the park.
5. Or do we begin in the future then come back to the present?
6. To mix it up even more the video switches back and forth... ...there are even sections where we see both tenses!
7. The stop motion sections (the past or the present?) even show a non-linear structure as their order is not strictly chronological.
8. I have also included an element of pastiche. Although my video is not chiefly made up of techniques borrowed from other sources, I have paid homage to the work of other’s. For instance, the split screen technique was inspired by the music video for Example’s “Kickstarts” where split screen is a focal element.
