- When John Blem and Henrik Friborg Jacobsen founded Milestone back in 1998, we didn’t have an exact and strong vision for were to take the company but we had something else: we had a determination to make a difference by creating innovative software products and do business internationally. we had some rare software engineering skills; we knew how to make mission critical software systems for handling of real time data And then we had a good consultancy software business creating a healthy economy So what exactly did we at the time back in ’98. We had an extensive knowledge from previous careers of creating server farms that could handle incoming real time data from bank and exchanges all over the world; Our data systems then converted this data to a common format; Applied certain business logic; Stored the incoming data efficiently in real time to data bases; And re-distributed this data to clients in various locations in real time as well; All this was naturally a mission critical 24/7 operation; - very few software companies actually posses such skills of handling massive amounts of incoming data with redistribution in real time
- As Lars mentioned earlier today we launched our first IP video surveillance product called Surveillance PRO back in late ’99 We attended ISC West in 2001 as our first major industry event in the US So how was business and the market reaction; Well I guess it is fair to say that business was slow and the security industry reacted with a certain skepticism; At that time the market was almost purely analog and digital recording only occurred in expensive large installations; At the same time most people could see the IP technology really opened up a lot of possibilities; But nobody in the security industry really believed this was a revolution to come As you can see we changes things quite a lot since then

- Slide 10: John Blem E: If you were to ask our CTO, John Blem, he would probably say: “ It’s all about decoupling SW from HW to give users freedom to choose the best combination that truly meets their business needs…” M: I’ve heard John say that many times, but what does he really mean? E: Looking at it from a customer’s point of view, an IT manager if you like, it’s about living a commitment to always let the customer freely mix and match both software and hardware to create a solution that, as seen through their eyes, meets their needs exactly. The crucial thing here is, “as seen through their eyes”, the manufacturer should not put up requirements or conditions, it’s always the customer that makes the choice. That’s a true open platform solution and it’s our job as manufacturers to make the different parts work together seamlessly. M: That sounds great but aren’t there usually at least some conditions form manufacturers. E: Depending on the complexity of the solution, you’re right I guess. But as the manufacturer starts to dictate requirements for the customer’s solution…

- IdentityPeople Video analytics is one of the hot topics right now. We don’t believe big time sales is going on yet. But different kinds of video analytics has become a customer requirement in almost all of the big tenders we see these days. We have take the best of breed partnering strategy to video analytics and we are developing an analytics framework where we will work with multiple of the leading video analytics companies so we can offer these to our customers. We have found partners for different types of analytics: general video analytics (object tracking, trip wire etc.), license plate recognition and face recognition. In excess of the partners we will be working more actively with we can offer various solutions from our Solution Partners.

- The Solution: An open platform IP video management solution One challenge in video analytics today is integrating user interfaces when video analytics solutions are used with a video surveillance system. This is particularly true if you are deploying several video analytics products (or plan to add new ones in the future). You don’t want to overburden your staff with learning several different interfaces. This is important because most video analytics systems offer one, or at most two, types of detections per camera, and the same one or two detections for all cameras in the system.
