This document summarizes the results of a study on price area congestion management (PACM) in a radial power system using a 73-bus model of the Western Region Grid of India. The study developed a method and software to determine bid areas a priori based on locational marginal prices. Two main bid areas were identified for the system based on clusters of similar LMP values. PACM was then applied to the two area system to manage congestion on the transmission line between areas. The results demonstrate how PACM can be used to maximize social welfare through arbitrage trading while earning congestion rentals.
