5. A typical Day in a French High school, the « lycée » Most of the pupils go to highschool by bus, train or scooter, bike… but little are the oneswhocan go to the lycée by feet. During the day, we have sevenhours of lessonsapproximately. If wehaven’t classes, wecan go to the “CDI” thisis a Learning Resources Center. Aftertwohours of lessons, we have a break of 10 minutes, wecan go outside to smoke for example or stay in the main hall. Célia & Krystal.
6. Lunch! Noon, we have a 1.30 hours break to eat. Thosewho live nearby return at home whileothers go to the canteen. At the canteen, we have to queue to takeourmeal in the self . During lunch time, pupilscanlisten to music in the principal hall, thisisgreatbecausewecanchooseany style of music: rap, r’n’b, techno, arabic, rock…
7. School subjects of a French High School In France, most of subjects are compulsory. We do not choose what we study, except the second and the third foreign languages. Overall, main subjects are mathematics, French, history-geography, physics-chemistry, sciences, sports, English and Spanish language.
8. FRENCH In thissubject, we study French literature, the greatest writers of all ages, we learn to examine texts, we read lots of books... It’s an important subject because next year, we’ll take an exam about it (anticipated baccalauréat) (We have 4 hours a week of this subject.)
9. HISTORY Westudy the history of many countries from the Antiquity to nowdays, mainly French history. It’s an interestingsubject but the excessive large number of dates we have to learn annoys most of the pupils ! ( We have 4 hours a week of this subject)
10. LANGUAGES Inourhighschool we can study four different languages: English,Spanish, German, Russian. We can choose two besides the English language which is compulsory. We have aroundthreehours a week of one language.
11. SCIENCES French students call this subject SVT (science of earth life). We have two hours a week. In this subject we study nature, human beings, animals, volcanos… Sometimes we make dissection of animal : we cut the animal and we observe all itsorgans. (We have 1 hour and a half a week of thissubject)
12. PHYSICAL EDUCATION French students call this subject EPS, two hours a week. In this subject we practise sport like volley-ball, gymnastic, handball, rugby, acrobatic gymnastic, football… During the year we practise five different sports. Generallystudents like this subject.
13. EXPLORATION LESSON This year, we have to choose an exploration lesson to discover a subject. We have a choice between: -Literature and Society -computer. -sport -artistic creation -sciences of laboratories
14. OPTIONS As most of European countries, we’ll take an examination called “le baccalauréat”, the high school diploma at the end of the high school, equivalent to a “A Level”. All the subjects are concerned, but we can choose options which we’ll help us to pass this diploma, for example: theater, music, art.
