WOMEN IN ANCIENT GREECE
With the exception of women in ancient Sparta,Greek women had very limited freedom outside the home.If you had permit from her husband could attend weddings, funerals, religious festivals,visit neighbors, and women in short periods of time. But without the permission of her husband,they couldn't do any of these things. They could not leave the house or even go to a temple to honor their gods . 1.- According to the Greeks, why were men and women different?
2.- Do you think this is a sexist opinion? Yes,because men wanted to control women, and they must be as free as men.
3.- Were women free people? No,because they had to ask for  permission to their husbands to go everywhere
They had to ask for permission to their husbands,if the husbands didn't want, women couldn't go out 4.- If they wanted to go somewhere, what did they have to do?
5.- Do you think that that happens today? No,because today women can go out always they want, they are free citizens
6.- Mention a curiosity about the participants in the Olympic games Women couldn't see the Olympic Games. the participans didn't wear clothes.
7.- Could women go there? - Wives and daughters were not allowed to watch the Olympic Games as the participants in the games did not wear clothes.
8.- Were women full citizens? - No. Women had very limited freedom outside the home and  If they had their husband's permission, they could attend weddings, funerals, some religious festivals, and visit female neighbors for brief periods of time. But without their husband's permission, they could do none of these things

4 9.- Did Greek Women go to school ? And what about the Spartan women ? -Yes, Greek women could go to school but they were treated of different form. -The Spartan women didnt go to school.
10.- What did the boys learn at school ? And what did girls learn to do ? Boys were aducated to become citizens and take part in the public life of the city state and the girls were educated  in housekeeping and how to look after the family.
11.- What did parents prefer , having daughters or sons ? Why? They preffer boys because they  had got more oportunities than women.
12.- Who did take care of parents when they were old? The boys took care of parents when they were old.
13  Where did the boys have many classes at school? The boys did athletics, to keep fit and prepare them for war as soldiers. They ran, jumped, wrestled and practised throwing a spear and a discus . They trained on a sports ground called a gymnasium.
14.- Were married women free? Girls had to do exactly as their father told them and this included marrying the man their father chose for them. Even when married, a women was not free. She had to do as her husband wished. She was not allowed out on her own and was not often seen by people other than her own family.
15.- What did the girls learn to do in Ancient Greece ?  Education was also different for boys and girls. Boys were educated to become good citizens and take part in the public life of the city state. Girls were educated in housekeeping and how to look after the family. · Could men and women  share the hole house?  Yes,but they lived in different parts in the house
Were there any special rooms for  women in Greece houses?   Yes   What was this room called? Gynoikon What was it used for?   Here women worked on their  weaving and spinning entertainment ,  friends and female relatives and  looked after their children
Were there any special rooms for men? Yes   How was this room called ? Andron   What was it used for? Men often entertained their friends and business associates in the men´s dining room . Symposia , or driking parties
Do you know what misogyny means? Misogyny = The hatred of  women, that is to hate women
Do you think that Greek society was misoginious? Yes,because they had to do the harder tasks
