2. Step One:
For the background of my
contents page I decided I want
to stick with the flower theme
that I have opened with on my
front cover. To create this
background I have merged two
flower pictures together but
from it I have created a smoky
theme with the purple which I
feel is gothic and works well
with the theme I am trying to
create.
I created a series of layer, one
in overlay, another in vivid light
and another in luminosity to
create the darkness of the
purple.
3. Step Two:
The first thing I did was I put four pictures
as I didn’t want one main picture. So with
me putting four pictures together it is clear
that I am going for more of a collage look. I
then added simple text around the pictures
so that the readers know that Pandora's ox
is the band, the text I have used is the same
as that I used for the front cover as I feel
that this is makes it more consistent, and it
represents the band along with the colour.
The next thing I did was I added The word
contents I got the inspiration for this from a
magazine called vibe and I have carried this
through from my pliminary exercise as I
liked it that much. I think that the way it is
set out is unusual and I think that it works
really well, I also added a purple glow
behind the text as I felt that it would make
it stand out more. I then added the other
text and with this I added a white blur
behind the text as I think that it creates
contrast between the word contents and I
think it works well.
4. Step Three:
The next thing I added was the
contents page listing, I used the
purple text to emphasis the page
numbers. And I also used a black
box with low opacity to create a
stronger background for the
white text to work with. I wanted
the ‘main features’ writing to be
similar to the ‘this week in
ignorance’ but not completely
the same. So to change them
slightly I used a lighter shade of
purple and used less of a white
blur behind the text. I did
consider not having a blur put I
felt that the text wouldn’t stand
out enough without it.
5. Step Four:
One of the last things I added to my contents
page was the faded red bar I have at the
bottom. I wanted this bar, however I originally
had the bar black, but some feedback told me
that the black bar looked too much like my
front cover, and they suggested red to mach
the Pandora's theme, as the bar at the bottom
is about Pandora's box.
I chose to use a white text on top of the red
text as I have used white text for all the details
on the contents page and I wanted it to be
consistent.
The last thing I added to my contents page was
the picture. In some magazines they have
more than one picture for their contents page
however I felt that if I had more than what I
have it would look too cramped, and this is one
thing I wanted to avoid. To create the oval
behind the text I simply chose a shape from
Photoshop and added text to it. I then just
tilted the picture a little as I felt that everything
else was straight and normal, and I think that
with me tilting it has made it more informal,
and I think that it could possibly target my
target audience more.
