The quick acting lock may be easily closed to the locked position by
applying upward and backward pressure to the tab of the lock. In this
position, accidental separation of the condylar guides from the
www.indiandentalacademy.com
condyles is prevented and simple hinge movement is allowed.
#2321A and #2322A Condylar Guide Assemblies feature
adjustable progressive slide shift and flat eminentia.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
The condylar inclination on the Model #2340 may be adjusted by
loosening and then tightening the #8520 Screw to the
www.indiandentalacademy.com
appropriate setting.
The progressive side shift may be set on the Model #2340 by
loosening and then tightening the #8520A Side Shift Screw to
www.indiandentalacademy.com
the appropriate setting.
A close up view of the Accumount mounting system. Each Model
#2340 Articulator is calibrated in the factory to maintain a set
relationship of the upper to the lower frame which allows the accurate
www.indiandentalacademy.com
transfer of mounted casts between articulators.
Whip Mix Direct Mounting Face-Bows. From left to right, the
Model #8645, #9600, and #8600 Face-Bows.

www.indiandentalacademy.com
The #8645 Direct Mounting Face-Bow features T-Screws and
aluminum half-bows.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Items packaged with each Face-Bow:
• Face-Bow including Nasion Relator and Face-Bow Fork
• Face-Bow Instruction Manual
• Patient Record Card
www.indiandentalacademy.com
• Package of 6 Rubber Bands
• Sterilize the bite fork and place
registration material firmly over
the top surface of the bite fork.
• Position the bite fork so that
the midline of the bite fork aligns
with the midline of the maxilla.
• Support the bite fork
underneath by having the
patient bite on cotton rolls. Some
clinicians prefer to have the
patient bite on the bite fork itself
after registration material has
been placed on both sides.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
• Before attempting to place the
Face-Bow onto the bite fork, it is
suggested that operator rehearse
the following procedure with the
patient.
• A finger cot placed over each
earpiece will help facilitate proper
disinfection of the Face-Bow.
• With the bite fork positioned in
the patient’s mouth, have the
patient grasp both arms of the
Face-Bow and bring them
backwards to a position just
forward of the patient’s ears.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Have the patient place each earpiece in the external auditory meatus
and hold in place with firm pressure. Start the toggle onto the bite fork
www.indiandentalacademy.com
shift and make sure each earpiece is securely positioned.
Center the plastic nosepiece on the patient’s nasion. Exert firm
pressure on the nosepiece shaft while tightening the thumb
screw of www.indiandentalacademy.com
the nasion relator assembly.
Tighten the three thumb screws (#8604) on top of the Face-Bow.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Make sure the horizontal crossbar is above the bite fork shaft and push
the #8642 toggle back on the bite fork shaft until it is near, but not
touching, the lips. To prevent torquing of the Face-Bow and discomfort
to the patient, support www.indiandentalacademy.com hand and tighten the
the Face-Bow with one
#8640 T-screw.
Tighten the #8643 T-screw onto the vertical bar. Take care not to
let the Face-Bow tip while tightening the T-screw.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
A permanent intercondylar width of 110 mm is incorporated into
each Series 2000 Articulator. This corresponds to the ‘M’ setting
www.indiandentalacademy.com
found on the Face-Bow.
When mounting a cast on a Series 2000 Articulator it is not
necessary to record the intercondylar width marking designated
www.indiandentalacademy.com
by the SML markings on the upper arm of the Face-Bow.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
A finger cot placed over each earpiece will help facilitate proper
disinfection of the Face-Bow. Remember, a rubber band
www.indiandentalacademy.com
correctly placed will aid Face-Bow manipulation.
The following items are needed for mounting casts on the
Model #2340 Articulator:
• Mounting Stone or
Mounting Plaster
• Spatula
• Rubber Bowl
• Face-Bow Registration
• 2- Clean Mounting Plates
• Upper and Lower Casts
• Interocclusal Records
• Graduated Cylinder
• Plaster Knife
• Rubber Bands (optional)

www.indiandentalacademy.com
Remove or sufficiently raise the #2201 Incisal Guide Pin so that
the upper member of the articulator will be able to rest on the
www.indiandentalacademy.com
horizontal crossbar of the Face-Bow.
Place clean mounting plates (#8580 or #8580B) on the upper
and lower frames of the articulator.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Firmly tighten the Mounting Plate knob (#8507) whenever
securing a mounting plate to the articulator.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Set each condylar guide to the 30° setting on the condylar
inclination scale in preparation for attaching the Face-Bow
www.indiandentalacademy.com
assembly to the upper frame of the articulator.
Use the hex driver to firmly tighten each #8805 Clamp Screw.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Set the progressive side shift guide setting to the 0 mark.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Firmly tighten each #8520A Side Shift Screw.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Place the Face-Bow in one hand and the upper member of the
articulator in the other.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Position the brass mounting pin located on the outer flange of
the left condylar guide assembly into the hole on the medial side
www.indiandentalacademy.com
of the left plastic earpiece of the Face-Bow.
While holding the left half-bow against one’s body, guide the
right brass mounting pin into the right Face-Bow earpiece.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Allow the anterior end of the upper frame of the articulator to rest on
the horizontal crossbar of the Face-Bow. Securely tighten the 3 thumb
screws on the top of the Face-Bow while still pressing the Face-Bow
www.indiandentalacademy.com
arms against one’s body.
Because the guidance of this instrument is part of the upper
frame and the Face-Bow is, in effect, one piece with this frame,
www.indiandentalacademy.com
the face-bow fork is in a fixed relation to the upper frame.
Place the upper frame with attached Face-Bow onto the lower frame
and make sure it is stable. The relation of the upper frame and its facebow fork registration to the lower frame and its condylar elements is of
no consequence at this point since the lower frame serves merely as a
www.indiandentalacademy.com
convenient means of support during the mounting of the maxillary cast.
Place the maxillary cast into the face-bow registration to make sure
it is stable with no rocking. The cast will need additional trimming if
the front end of the articulator upper frame does not contact the
www.indiandentalacademy.com
face-bow crossbar.
• The Face-Bow Support
(#8585) is a convenient
accessory used to support the
bite fork during the mounting of
the upper cast.

• The face-bow fork support
attaches to the lower frame in
place of the lower mounting
plate.

• The cross arm is raised to
contact the under surface of the
face-bow fork which prevents
flexing of the fork.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Some clinicians prefer to place rubber bands around the upper
cast and bite for added stability.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Lift the upper frame of the articulator and apply Mounting Stone to the base
of the cast and the mounting plate. Whip Mix Mounting Stone is ideal for
mounting casts because it is formulated to have a short working time,
www.indiandentalacademy.com
excellent stacking ability and extremely low setting expansion.
Close the upper frame of the articulator until it contacts the face-bow
crossbar and hold the upper frame in this position until the Mounting
Stone is set. Do not use www.indiandentalacademy.com
too thick a mix of Mounting Stone or attempt to
apply force when the stone has already begun to set.
It is not necessary that the Mounting Stone be smooth and all
voids filled with the first mix. Many clinicians prefer to use a
www.indiandentalacademy.com
second mix to fill the voids after the first mix has set.
• The upper and lower
frames are made parallel by
aligning the top of the pin
boss with the dark line (zero
mark) which completely
encircles the incisal guide
pin.
• While mounting the lower
cast it may be necessary to
compensate for the
thickness of the centric
relation or maximum
intercuspation record by
raising the incisal guide pin
3-5 mm above the 0 mark.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
In preparation for mounting the lower cast, make sure the centric
latch is secure.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Place the articulator upside down with the incisal guide pin
extending over the front edge of the work bench or table top. This
www.indiandentalacademy.com
positions the mounted cast with its occlusal surfaces upward.
Place an interocclusal CR or MI registration on the maxillary
cast. Make sure the record is completely seated on the
www.indiandentalacademy.com
maxillary cast.
Position the mandibular cast on the CR or MI registration and
check for stability. If preferred, attach a rubber band around the
base of thewww.indiandentalacademy.com stability.
lower cast to enhance
Hinge the lower frame into an open position and apply Mounting
Stone to the base of the lower cast and the lower mounting plate.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
• Hinge the lower frame closed
until the incisal guide pin
meets the incisal guide block.
• Make sure the condylar
elements are seated flush
against the posterior and
superior wall of the condylar
guides.
• Carefully hold the articulator
in this position until the
Mounting Stone has set.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
• Loosen the #8511 Incisal
Guide Pin Screw and make
sure the upper and lower
casts contact.
• Evaluate the occlusion of
the casts to make sure they
have been accurately
mounted.
• Retighten the incisal guide
pin Screw and make sure
the incisal guide pin is
positioned in the center of
the incisal guide table.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Make sure the rounded end of the incisal guide pin is positioned
in the centerwww.indiandentalacademy.com guide table.
of the plastic incisal
After removing the CR or MI registration release the centric latch.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Set both condylar guides to the 0 setting indicated on the condylar
scale – firmly tighten the right condylar guide locking screw and lightly
secure the www.indiandentalacademy.com
left condylar guide locking screw.
Set the progressive side shift guides to their most open position.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Loosen the incisal guide pin screw and raise the incisal guide pin
to prevent any interference, then retighten the screw.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
With the upper frame and its cast inverted, carefully seat the
right lateral interocclusal record on the upper cast.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Holding the upper frame in one hand and the lower frame in the
other, place the right working condylar element in the right
condylar guide. Make sure that the right condyle is seated and
www.indiandentalacademy.com
“flush” against the rear wall.
Gently set the lower cast into the right lateral record and lightly
hold the articulator and cast in position in the record.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Notice that the left condylar guide element has moved away from
both the superior and posterior surfaces of the condylar guide
andwww.indiandentalacademy.com
toward the medial wall.
To set the inclination of the left condylar guide, rotate the guide
until the superior wall touches the condyle element.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Tighten the #8805 Left Condylar Guide Locking Screw to secure
the condylar guide position. Do not use excessive pressure
www.indiandentalacademy.com
when tightening the locking screw.
To set the left progressive side shift, loosen the left #8520A Side
Shift Guide Holding Screw and move the #8524 Left Side Shift
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Guide until it touches the medial side of the left condyle element.
Retighten the left #8520 Screw and return the articulator to its
upright position. Record the amount of condylar inclination and
www.indiandentalacademy.com
immediate side shift found on the left side on a Patient Record Card.
• After the left condylar
guidance has been recorded
the condylar guidance should
be neutralized as previously
described except that the left
condylar guide locking screw
should be tightened and the
right condylar guide locking
screw lightly secured.
• The right condylar guidance
is adjusted using the left lateral
excursion record and repeating
the procedure.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
• Many wish to set the
condylar inclination of the
articulator with the protrusive
record.
• To utilize the positive
protrusive record, first
neutralize the condylar
inclination and progressive
side shift setting.
• Place the protrusive record
on the inverted upper frame of
the articulator and gently seat
the lower cast in the
protrusive record.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
Both condyle elements will have moved away from the posterior
and superior surfaces of the respective condylar guides.
www.indiandentalacademy.com
• Using sight and touch,
rotate the condylar guide
until it contacts the condylar
ball, then tighten the
condylar locking screw.
• Record the reading and
repeat the procedure on the
left side.
• The lateral records are then
used to determine the
immediate side shift setting.

Articulator 1 /certified fixed orthodontic courses by Indian dental academy

  • 1. ARTICULATORS - 1 INDIAN DENTAL ACADEMY Leader in continuing dental education www.indiandentalacademy.com www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 2. Whip Mix Model #2340 Articulator www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 3. The quick acting lock may be easily closed to the locked position by applying upward and backward pressure to the tab of the lock. In this position, accidental separation of the condylar guides from the www.indiandentalacademy.com condyles is prevented and simple hinge movement is allowed.
  • 4. #2321A and #2322A Condylar Guide Assemblies feature adjustable progressive slide shift and flat eminentia. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 5. The condylar inclination on the Model #2340 may be adjusted by loosening and then tightening the #8520 Screw to the www.indiandentalacademy.com appropriate setting.
  • 6. The progressive side shift may be set on the Model #2340 by loosening and then tightening the #8520A Side Shift Screw to www.indiandentalacademy.com the appropriate setting.
  • 7. A close up view of the Accumount mounting system. Each Model #2340 Articulator is calibrated in the factory to maintain a set relationship of the upper to the lower frame which allows the accurate www.indiandentalacademy.com transfer of mounted casts between articulators.
  • 8. Whip Mix Direct Mounting Face-Bows. From left to right, the Model #8645, #9600, and #8600 Face-Bows. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 9. The #8645 Direct Mounting Face-Bow features T-Screws and aluminum half-bows. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 10. Items packaged with each Face-Bow: • Face-Bow including Nasion Relator and Face-Bow Fork • Face-Bow Instruction Manual • Patient Record Card www.indiandentalacademy.com • Package of 6 Rubber Bands
  • 11. • Sterilize the bite fork and place registration material firmly over the top surface of the bite fork. • Position the bite fork so that the midline of the bite fork aligns with the midline of the maxilla. • Support the bite fork underneath by having the patient bite on cotton rolls. Some clinicians prefer to have the patient bite on the bite fork itself after registration material has been placed on both sides. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 12. • Before attempting to place the Face-Bow onto the bite fork, it is suggested that operator rehearse the following procedure with the patient. • A finger cot placed over each earpiece will help facilitate proper disinfection of the Face-Bow. • With the bite fork positioned in the patient’s mouth, have the patient grasp both arms of the Face-Bow and bring them backwards to a position just forward of the patient’s ears. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 13. Have the patient place each earpiece in the external auditory meatus and hold in place with firm pressure. Start the toggle onto the bite fork www.indiandentalacademy.com shift and make sure each earpiece is securely positioned.
  • 14. Center the plastic nosepiece on the patient’s nasion. Exert firm pressure on the nosepiece shaft while tightening the thumb screw of www.indiandentalacademy.com the nasion relator assembly.
  • 15. Tighten the three thumb screws (#8604) on top of the Face-Bow. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 16. Make sure the horizontal crossbar is above the bite fork shaft and push the #8642 toggle back on the bite fork shaft until it is near, but not touching, the lips. To prevent torquing of the Face-Bow and discomfort to the patient, support www.indiandentalacademy.com hand and tighten the the Face-Bow with one #8640 T-screw.
  • 17. Tighten the #8643 T-screw onto the vertical bar. Take care not to let the Face-Bow tip while tightening the T-screw. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 18. A permanent intercondylar width of 110 mm is incorporated into each Series 2000 Articulator. This corresponds to the ‘M’ setting www.indiandentalacademy.com found on the Face-Bow.
  • 19. When mounting a cast on a Series 2000 Articulator it is not necessary to record the intercondylar width marking designated www.indiandentalacademy.com by the SML markings on the upper arm of the Face-Bow.
  • 21. A finger cot placed over each earpiece will help facilitate proper disinfection of the Face-Bow. Remember, a rubber band www.indiandentalacademy.com correctly placed will aid Face-Bow manipulation.
  • 22. The following items are needed for mounting casts on the Model #2340 Articulator: • Mounting Stone or Mounting Plaster • Spatula • Rubber Bowl • Face-Bow Registration • 2- Clean Mounting Plates • Upper and Lower Casts • Interocclusal Records • Graduated Cylinder • Plaster Knife • Rubber Bands (optional) www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 23. Remove or sufficiently raise the #2201 Incisal Guide Pin so that the upper member of the articulator will be able to rest on the www.indiandentalacademy.com horizontal crossbar of the Face-Bow.
  • 24. Place clean mounting plates (#8580 or #8580B) on the upper and lower frames of the articulator. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 25. Firmly tighten the Mounting Plate knob (#8507) whenever securing a mounting plate to the articulator. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 26. Set each condylar guide to the 30° setting on the condylar inclination scale in preparation for attaching the Face-Bow www.indiandentalacademy.com assembly to the upper frame of the articulator.
  • 27. Use the hex driver to firmly tighten each #8805 Clamp Screw. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 28. Set the progressive side shift guide setting to the 0 mark. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 29. Firmly tighten each #8520A Side Shift Screw. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 30. Place the Face-Bow in one hand and the upper member of the articulator in the other. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 31. Position the brass mounting pin located on the outer flange of the left condylar guide assembly into the hole on the medial side www.indiandentalacademy.com of the left plastic earpiece of the Face-Bow.
  • 32. While holding the left half-bow against one’s body, guide the right brass mounting pin into the right Face-Bow earpiece. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 33. Allow the anterior end of the upper frame of the articulator to rest on the horizontal crossbar of the Face-Bow. Securely tighten the 3 thumb screws on the top of the Face-Bow while still pressing the Face-Bow www.indiandentalacademy.com arms against one’s body.
  • 34. Because the guidance of this instrument is part of the upper frame and the Face-Bow is, in effect, one piece with this frame, www.indiandentalacademy.com the face-bow fork is in a fixed relation to the upper frame.
  • 35. Place the upper frame with attached Face-Bow onto the lower frame and make sure it is stable. The relation of the upper frame and its facebow fork registration to the lower frame and its condylar elements is of no consequence at this point since the lower frame serves merely as a www.indiandentalacademy.com convenient means of support during the mounting of the maxillary cast.
  • 36. Place the maxillary cast into the face-bow registration to make sure it is stable with no rocking. The cast will need additional trimming if the front end of the articulator upper frame does not contact the www.indiandentalacademy.com face-bow crossbar.
  • 37. • The Face-Bow Support (#8585) is a convenient accessory used to support the bite fork during the mounting of the upper cast. • The face-bow fork support attaches to the lower frame in place of the lower mounting plate. • The cross arm is raised to contact the under surface of the face-bow fork which prevents flexing of the fork. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 38. Some clinicians prefer to place rubber bands around the upper cast and bite for added stability. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 39. Lift the upper frame of the articulator and apply Mounting Stone to the base of the cast and the mounting plate. Whip Mix Mounting Stone is ideal for mounting casts because it is formulated to have a short working time, www.indiandentalacademy.com excellent stacking ability and extremely low setting expansion.
  • 40. Close the upper frame of the articulator until it contacts the face-bow crossbar and hold the upper frame in this position until the Mounting Stone is set. Do not use www.indiandentalacademy.com too thick a mix of Mounting Stone or attempt to apply force when the stone has already begun to set.
  • 41. It is not necessary that the Mounting Stone be smooth and all voids filled with the first mix. Many clinicians prefer to use a www.indiandentalacademy.com second mix to fill the voids after the first mix has set.
  • 42. • The upper and lower frames are made parallel by aligning the top of the pin boss with the dark line (zero mark) which completely encircles the incisal guide pin. • While mounting the lower cast it may be necessary to compensate for the thickness of the centric relation or maximum intercuspation record by raising the incisal guide pin 3-5 mm above the 0 mark. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 43. In preparation for mounting the lower cast, make sure the centric latch is secure. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 44. Place the articulator upside down with the incisal guide pin extending over the front edge of the work bench or table top. This www.indiandentalacademy.com positions the mounted cast with its occlusal surfaces upward.
  • 45. Place an interocclusal CR or MI registration on the maxillary cast. Make sure the record is completely seated on the www.indiandentalacademy.com maxillary cast.
  • 46. Position the mandibular cast on the CR or MI registration and check for stability. If preferred, attach a rubber band around the base of thewww.indiandentalacademy.com stability. lower cast to enhance
  • 47. Hinge the lower frame into an open position and apply Mounting Stone to the base of the lower cast and the lower mounting plate. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 48. • Hinge the lower frame closed until the incisal guide pin meets the incisal guide block. • Make sure the condylar elements are seated flush against the posterior and superior wall of the condylar guides. • Carefully hold the articulator in this position until the Mounting Stone has set. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 49. • Loosen the #8511 Incisal Guide Pin Screw and make sure the upper and lower casts contact. • Evaluate the occlusion of the casts to make sure they have been accurately mounted. • Retighten the incisal guide pin Screw and make sure the incisal guide pin is positioned in the center of the incisal guide table. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 50. Make sure the rounded end of the incisal guide pin is positioned in the centerwww.indiandentalacademy.com guide table. of the plastic incisal
  • 51. After removing the CR or MI registration release the centric latch. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 52. Set both condylar guides to the 0 setting indicated on the condylar scale – firmly tighten the right condylar guide locking screw and lightly secure the www.indiandentalacademy.com left condylar guide locking screw.
  • 53. Set the progressive side shift guides to their most open position. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 54. Loosen the incisal guide pin screw and raise the incisal guide pin to prevent any interference, then retighten the screw. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 55. With the upper frame and its cast inverted, carefully seat the right lateral interocclusal record on the upper cast. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 56. Holding the upper frame in one hand and the lower frame in the other, place the right working condylar element in the right condylar guide. Make sure that the right condyle is seated and www.indiandentalacademy.com “flush” against the rear wall.
  • 57. Gently set the lower cast into the right lateral record and lightly hold the articulator and cast in position in the record. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 58. Notice that the left condylar guide element has moved away from both the superior and posterior surfaces of the condylar guide andwww.indiandentalacademy.com toward the medial wall.
  • 59. To set the inclination of the left condylar guide, rotate the guide until the superior wall touches the condyle element. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 60. Tighten the #8805 Left Condylar Guide Locking Screw to secure the condylar guide position. Do not use excessive pressure www.indiandentalacademy.com when tightening the locking screw.
  • 61. To set the left progressive side shift, loosen the left #8520A Side Shift Guide Holding Screw and move the #8524 Left Side Shift www.indiandentalacademy.com Guide until it touches the medial side of the left condyle element.
  • 62. Retighten the left #8520 Screw and return the articulator to its upright position. Record the amount of condylar inclination and www.indiandentalacademy.com immediate side shift found on the left side on a Patient Record Card.
  • 63. • After the left condylar guidance has been recorded the condylar guidance should be neutralized as previously described except that the left condylar guide locking screw should be tightened and the right condylar guide locking screw lightly secured. • The right condylar guidance is adjusted using the left lateral excursion record and repeating the procedure. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 64. • Many wish to set the condylar inclination of the articulator with the protrusive record. • To utilize the positive protrusive record, first neutralize the condylar inclination and progressive side shift setting. • Place the protrusive record on the inverted upper frame of the articulator and gently seat the lower cast in the protrusive record. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 65. Both condyle elements will have moved away from the posterior and superior surfaces of the respective condylar guides. www.indiandentalacademy.com
  • 66. • Using sight and touch, rotate the condylar guide until it contacts the condylar ball, then tighten the condylar locking screw. • Record the reading and repeat the procedure on the left side. • The lateral records are then used to determine the immediate side shift setting. www.indiandentalacademy.com
