How To Save Money When Traveling
We all want to have a nice, relaxing vacation from time
to time, if possible on a sunny beach in a foreign
country.
When we finally manage to get it, we find ourselves
confronted with other issues - apart from the usual
hotel reservations, flight, etc.
When you travel to a foreign country, you feel the need
to tell everyone back home how things are, assure
them you're alright and you're having fun.
Unfortunately, it's not always that easy. And here's
why:
If you have a cell phone with you, you may surprisingly find that it's not working properly, because the
cell phone operator in the country that you're in uses a different technology or you don't have
international calling activated. And if all the above doesn't apply, you may find yourself in an area with
poor or no network coverage at all...
If you don't have your cell phone with you, the only thing left to do is to try to call from a local phone
or from the hotel. In both situations, you're at a disadvantage, mainly because it involves huge costs -
international calls are charged with much higher rates because of the technology involved and
depending on the agreements between carriers and operators in different countries. Plus, hotels always
charge you extra for using their lines.
So what's the solution? It's very simple - get a calling card before you leave. Nowadays, calling cards
are the easiest and most affordable communication way when you're traveling. When you buy it, you
receive instantly a PIN number, access numbers from all international locations and dialing
instructions. Most of the time, you'll also have special local access numbers in cities across the world -
you'll get a lower rate when using them.
Plus, you can get a call back feature - meaning that not only you'll be able to call home, but also your
friends and family can call you back! And all this at a very low cost, enabling you to do more of the
things you like during your vacation.
Guide To Using International Airports
When scheduling a flight, whether that flight be domestic or
international, all passengers are advised to familiarize
themselves with the airport that they will be flying out of, as
well as the airline that they will be flying with.
Unfortunately, not all air travelers know how to go about
doing this.
If you are looking to familiarize yourself with international
airlines or airports, namely the ones that you will be using,
you will find that you have a number of different options.
Perhaps, the best way to learn more about an international airport is to use the internet to your
advantage. You can do this by performing a standard internet search. You will want to search with the
name of the international airport that you would like more information on.
For instance, if you are looking for more information on Des Moines International Airport, you will
want to search with the words Des Moines Airport or International Airport. Whichever international
airport you search for, it is likely that your search will return a number of results. One of those results
should be the online website run by the airport in question.
Once at the online website for an international airport, you will find that you now have access to an
unlimited amount of information; information that you were likely looking to obtain. Although all
online websites will vary, you will find that most airline websites display the same information.
This information may include, but should not be limited to, information on incoming and outgoing
flights, air travel rules, shops and other dining establishments, parking, airport directions, and terminal
locations. You are advised to examine all of the information on the site, regardless of whether or not
you feel that you need to know it.
As previously mentioned, it is likely that your internet search will return a number of different results.
In addition to the airport’s online website, you will also find sites that discuss the airport in question.
Many times, these websites are operated by travelers who frequently use the international airport being
discussed.
You may be able to find detailed information on low-cost dining or information on quick and easy ways
to maneuver around the airport. While this information may be useful to you, it is important to
remember that it is not guaranteed. For the best information, you are advised to examine the online
website operated and monitored by airport staff.
In addition to using the internet, you should also be able to obtain information on the airport in question
by directly contacting them. If you are researching a local international airport, you should be able to
find the contact information for that airport in your local phone book.
When contacting an international airport for general information on their services and features, you will
want to try and reach the customer service department. Customer service representatives should be
willing to answer your question, where as the maintenance department will likely be unable to assist
you.
Although not all international airports recommend it, you could also learn more about the international
airport that you will be using by visiting it. If you live within a reasonable driving distance to the
airport or if you are in the area for another reason, you may want to quickly stop by. While this is a
great way to familiarize yourself with the airport, you will not have access to all areas.
All airports have restrictions when it comes to security checkpoints, passengers without boarding
passes are not allowed past them. Stopping by the airport, may enable you to scope out the parking
situations, as well as obtain informational brochures on the airport, if they are available.
When it comes to international airport shopping, parking, or dining, you may also be able to receive
recommendations or tips from those that you know, especially those that have flown out of the
international airport in question before.
Regardless of where you get your information from, you will find that are an unlimited number of
benefits to knowing everything that you can know about the international airport that you will be using.
Finding A Cheap Ticket For Your Flight
With gasoline prices going through the roof and increased
costs due to new security measurements, airline ticket prices
have risen drastically in the last few years.
Flights that were once under two hundred dollars can now
cost up to three times as much as before.
However, it is still possible to find a cheap ticket if you are
willing to be flexible and to do a little research.
The Internet is a great tool for helping you find affordable
deals that leave you with a little extra cash to spend on your
vacation.
Today’s most popular way to locate cheap tickets is through online discount sites like Expedia and
Hotwire. These two sites and others like them are devoted to finding discount travel rates on cars,
flights and hotels.
You can type in a departure and arrival city and the dates you want to travel, and the site will search its
databases and bring up a list of budget rates. The more flexible you are, the greater your chances of
finding a cheap ticket.
There is a catch, however, when you book flights on Hotwire or Expedia. Most of the discount rates are
available on unpopular flight times, typically with early morning or late night departures or arrivals.
Also, if you have set dates and times that cannot be adjusted, it can be hard to find a cheaper rate.
These website services work best if you have a two or three day window for both your departure and
your return. That way, the site can choose from a wider variety of flight combinations, giving you the
lowest ticket prices available.
Another cheap ticket seller on the Internet is Priceline.com. This website allows you to enter your
travel dates and to offer your own ticket price. If your price is accepted by an airline, you can purchase
the ticket at that guaranteed rate.
This process can several hours, and if you receive the price you proposed, you are obligated to
purchase the ticket. Because of this, you are not able to choose which airline you use. Though Priceline
is not as flexible as other ways of purchasing cheap tickets, sometimes you can get amazing deals that
you can’t find any other way.
Travel sites like Priceline and Hotwire do offer another advantage in addition to cheap airplane tickets.
They also offer the options of booking hotels and car rentals at the same time as your flight. When you
book all of your travel needs at once, you can save even more on your expenses, leaving you more
money to spend once you reach your destination.
Some airlines offer cheap tickets directly through special web deals. Visit an airline website and locate
links for special Internet offers, and you may be surprised at what you can find. Most offer weekly or
monthly specials to particular destinations, and you can often save a lot of money by booking your
flight online.
If you are a member of a frequent flier program, you can save money of flights not only by using your
miles to purchase tickets, but also by taking advantage of the special rates offered to club members.
Sign up for email updates from your affiliated airline, and you will become privy to many of their
discount specials.
On rare occasions, airlines may offer two for one tickets to certain destinations when you use frequent
flier miles, or they may offer extra miles when you rent a car from a certain company or stay in a
certain hotel. Take advantage of credit card affiliations, as well. You can often earn frequent flier miles
by making purchases on a specific credit card affiliated with your airline of choice.
The 5 Best Party Beaches In The World
The idea of partying on the beach is universally
appealing, conjuring up images of dancing from sunset
to sunrise on golden sands, with bonfires, great music,
crashing waves and cocktails in the mix.
From Ibiza to Miami, there are as many types of beach
parties as there are party-people looking for a good
time.
From down and dirty dancing to celebrity-spotting
socializing, read on for the 5 best party beaches in the
world!
IBIZA, SPAIN
The name Ibiza has been synonymous with the phrase ‘beach party’ ever since the late ‘80’s when the
former hangout of hippies and flower-children, metamorphosized into the party capital of the world.
Stars, celebs and models all love to get down at the clubs dotted around this picturesque Spanish isle.
The Playa d’en Bossa Beach is the longest stretch of beach on the island with its bars and cafés. The far
end of the beach (away from Ibiza Town) is calmer, with less people and house music. But for the
definitive Ibiza beach party, head to Bora Bora, half way along d'en Bossa beach. Ibiza is also known
as a gay-friendly beach party destination.
MYKONOS, GREECE
With its welcoming locals and trendy beach bars oceanside, Mykonos is another great place to party on
the sands. Head to Paradise Beach Bar, located right on the beach between the palm trees. Here the
partying starts early - from 2 pm – and goes on till sunrise the following day.
This breathtakingly beautiful island is another favourite destination of the world’s fashionable party-
set, so expect to enjoy celebrity-spotting while you dance the night away. Lots of places of historical
and cultural interest, plus great tanning opportunities, mean you’ll never be bored while waiting for the
fun to begin.
SOUTH BEACH, MIAMI
Where the beautiful people hang out – South Beach offers all the partying you’ll ever need. Although
not strictly speaking ON the beach, the numerous fabulous clubs sprinkled along this expensive
coastline are so hot that they bring the beach atmosphere right inside. This is where the posh people
party, but the good times only get under way from 11 pm, so strolling along the beach, dining out or
having a drink in the earlier part of the evening is recommended to avoid arriving too early.
Many top model agencies send scouts to South Beach - you never know who might spot you on one of
the awesome dance floors. The beach itself is stunning, with white, baby-powder sands caressed by the
Atlantic. Not only can you dine here during the day but when the sun goes down you can have fun at
the beds on stilts at Nikki Beach.
BLOOMINGDALE AAN ZEE, HOLLAND
This event-venue opened nearly 7 years ago as a beach party for Amsterdam locals. The club has grown
to accommodate 2 400 revelers with both in- and out-of-door areas. The setting is one of the most
aesthetic on the Netherlands coast. Bloomingdales is renowned for its all-day Sunday parties held
regularly throughout the year. The music tends towards chilled, laid-back tunes, perfect for the beach-
setting. Top DJ’s are hosted regularly here.
CAMPS BAY, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA
The white sands of this beautiful beach are popular throughout summer with both locals and
international visitors to the Mother City of Cape Town, South Africa. With bars, cafes and restaurants
right along the Camps Bay strip there are always trendy and beautiful people spilling out of these
venues on to the beach.
While volley ball and tanning are popular by day, sundowners and impromptu beach parties are on
from early evening to well past midnight. Enjoy music, fire-jugglers and drumming around the huge
bonfires which are lit during the summer holiday season.
So if sun, sand and sea make put you in the mood for some sexy partying – why leave the beach? Head
for one of these 5 hot spots and the party need never end!

offer activities for both parents and children. Entertainment for everyone plus food, drink and activities
are all in one place.
Ways to save on packages: Mid week departure and arrivals will save you money on airfare. Also

Wherever you decide on the family vacation, whether it’s an airline ticket or a hotel room, never take
the first price your quoted. Always attempt to negotiate for a better price. Ask about any available
discounts. Be a flexible traveler. If you're willing to give up your seats on a flight for someone flying
standby, you'll be rewarded with free tickets.
Set aside the dates you want to travel and then watch for last minute deals. When on vacation skip the
souvenirs and start a postcard or refrigerator magnet collection. If you plan properly you can be assured
of your family having a fun and affordable family vacation.
Guide To Moving Houses With Pets
If you’re a pet owner and are planning to move to a new home,
remember that moving can be even more stressful for your animals
than it is for you. But there are several things you can do to make it
easier on your dog or cat.
Start your packing well ahead of time; it’s not only easier on you, but
on your pets as well. During the time leading up to your move, try to
keep your pets’ eating and exercise schedules as normal as possible.
Give them the same amount of attention and affection as you always
do.
Things to do before your move:
Get copies of certificates, medical, and immunization records from
your veterinarian.
Purchase identification tags with your new address.
If you’re planning to travel by air, schedule your flights early and try to book a direct flight – this
will be much easier on your pet. You need to find out what the airline’s regulations are for transporting
your pet. You will also need to find out what kind of crate will be necessary to contain your dog or cat.
If you’re driving and the trip will take more than one day, be sure and check ahead and reserve
motels that will accept pets.
Contact the state to which you’re moving and find out the regulations regarding animals. Some
states require an entry permit for pets.
If your new home is nearby it’s a good idea to take your pets for a visit and let them become familiar
with the neighborhood and the new sights and smells. This is especially true of dogs. Of course, keep
the dog on a leash and the cat in a carrier.
When Moving Day Finally Arrives . . .
All the confusion is certain to upset your pet so the best solution is to have a friend or family member
keep Fido or Fluffy while the loading is being done. If that isn’t an option, keep your pet in a small
room, perhaps a bathroom, along with sufficient food, water (litter box for Fluffy) and some favorite
toys. Attach a “Do Not Enter” sign on the door so the pet is secure and won’t be accidentally set free.
You’re on Your Way . . .
The packing and loading are all done and now it’s time to head for your new home. There are things
you’ll want to make sure are packed for your pet.
These include:
The new identification tags.
Medications and veterinarian records.
Recent pictures of your pet in case it becomes lost.
Litter box or scoop and plastic bags.
Paper towels in case there are accidents.
Leashes.
Toys and treats.
Food and water bowls.
Can opener and cans that can be resealed.
Regular food and water from the old house (enough for several days). Different water can upset an
animal’s digestive tract so it’s a good idea to provide water from the old house for the first few days
after moving. This would not be a good time to try a new brand of food either!
Your New Home ~ At Last . . .
When you finally arrive at your new home, let your pet explore with your supervision. Then place Fido
or Fluffy in a small room with a crate or bed (and, of course a litter box for Fluffy) while the unloading
and unpacking are taking place. Make sure to put some favorite toys in there and perhaps an old
sweatshirt, or something that smells familiar.
It’s very important that you not let your pet outside alone without a lead or tie for the first few days.
Cats usually require about a week but dogs adapt quicker. You don’t want your pet to wander away and
get lost.
Your pet may be insecure and more prone to misbehaving during the first few days in a new
environment. Try to be patient and not punish the initial misbehavior, instead, try to find ways to
reduce stress. Extra TLC can go a long way toward making pets more comfortable. It’s also a good idea
to follow the usual feeding and exercise schedule.
In closing, there are just a couple of things you should be aware of to keep the moving experience as
trouble-free as possible:
If you intend to fly, be aware that puppies and kittens less than 8 weeks old will not be transported.
And finally, never move a sick animal ~ it could well make his condition worse and endanger his
health.
Enjoy your new home!
Learning Spanish Has Never Been Easier
Mnemonic memory training is a memory system that allows you to store information in and recall it
from your long-term memory, and, in the case of learning a new language, your speech center.
Mnemonics gives you a way to organize information, store it, and recall it.
The better information is organized and stored, the easier you will be able to recall it when it is needed
and the longer it will stay in your head. If you do mnemonics correctly, you concentrate and focus on
information you want to remember in a way that will almost guarantee you will never forget it.
Some twenty-five years after going through my first mnemonic memory course, I still recall vocabulary
words in French and I do not speak French at all. In the course, as an exercise, we learned some French
words using the Substitute Word System—a mnemonic device—and I still can remember them.
Now that is Memory Training. This is what mnemonics does for you: it creates a way for a simple,
effective, and efficient storage and retrieval system. In other words, mnemonics provides you a way to
find the information in your head. It is essentially like a search engine on the Internet in your head.
Some offer criticism of mnemonics. They say mnemonic training does not teach you to understand the
information you are trying to remember. I find this a nonsense objection. Why would you be trying to
remember something you do not understand? The very fact that you want to recall something means, in
some way or other, you have a need to recall it and it implies there is at least some understanding of the
material you are trying to remember.
Another criticism is mnemonic training is time-consuming. The truth is that it is indeed time
consuming—all memory work is. But would you rather engage in something that will guarantee you
will be able to remember the information or engage in some rote memory exercise that will almost
guarantee you will NOT recall the information?
I find I can store more than twenty NEW Spanish vocabulary words per day and ALWAYS remember
them. I know some who can do ten times that amount.
Example of How I do it:
1) despejado—clear as in a clear sky
Imagine a clear sky—a totally beautiful day—spades suddenly materialize in the sky and begin falling
like deadly arrows. This causes you to have to hide under a huge mound of dough until the danger
passes.
2) el dependiente—the clerk
Imagine “L” tells a restaurant check out clerk that he depends on begin able to come in each day for a
spot of tea.
3) el paño—the cloth
Imagine “L” walks up to a giant pan that is playing with a yoyo and tells him that his yoyo looks dirty
and offer the pan a cloth to clean it.
4) el carbón—the coal
Imagine “L” rigs a car bomb. When he sets it off, it explodes a geyser of coal out of the top of the car.
5) el destinatario—the addressee
Imagine “L” is dusting a tire while eating some cheerios when a dress he is wearing falls to his knees
6) dirigirse—to address
Imagine a deer is a sales clerk in a dress shop, and is reading until she hears a customer say, “I want
you to add this dress to my bill.
7) intranquilo—worried or anxious
Imagine being stuck in a trunk with a magic quill. You draw an O around the lock with the quill. The O
turns into a worm that reads your anxious mind. It crawls into the lock of the trunk and opens the lock
releasing you.
8) firme—firm or adamant
Imagine someone asking, “Do you fear me?” To which you reply, “I adamantly do not fear you.”
9) el barbero—the barber
Imagine going to get you hair cut at the barbershop and “L” is the barber.
10) excusarse—to apologize
Imagine that to excuse yourself from the table you have to go around the table and say an apology to
everyone at the table.
11) los activos—the assets
Imagine that in Los Angeles that the favorite activity is to kick someone’s ass before taking their assets.
12) la almendra—the almond
Imagine an almond mending a dress.
13) la almeja—the clam

picture of Al Gore, a calendar page of the month of May, pictures of a clams all over the month of May,
and then of Al Gore hiding them like Easter Eggs.
14) la ventaja—the advantage
Imagine a vent traveling to Lake Tahoe to paint an ad on the side of a van of the Taj Mahal.
15) la anestesia—the anesthesia
Imagine seeing a nest on a table. You walk over to the nest to see in it. You find an egg that begins to
hatch releasing a green anesthesia gas knocking you out.
16) aprobar—to approve

of law.

U.S. Constitutional amendments.

trying to mend the cuffs of their trousers and darn their socks.

10 Easy To Learn Japanese Words
Anyone who plans to visit Japan should have a nodding acquaintance with the vocabulary to make
communicating the locals a little bearable. It was found out that 75% of the tourists who frequent Japan
have no knowledge of the Japanese dictionary -- even the simple ones used everyday by the locals.
These visitors often find it hard to interact with the native folks, especially when they're lost or if they
want something done.
If you want to enjoy a memorable visit in this amazing region, then you need to know a little bit of their
vocabulary to effectively interact with the locals.
Top 10 Japanese Words Used By The Locals:
1. Yes and No
The most basic words you can learn in Japan are "hai", which means yes; and "iie" for no. Since most
of the locals will be asking you things that requires a close answer, nodding or shaking your head might
be disrespectful. It's better to give them a straight yes or no when the flow of the conversation demands
it.
2. Greetings
Japan is well known for its polite greeting. If you are in the region, it would be best to give the
appropriate greeting stay on their good sides.
o "Ohayou Gozaimasu" -- good morning
o "Kon-nichiwa" -- good afternoon
o "Konbanwa" -- good evening
o "Oyasuminasai" -- good night (used for people who are going to sleep for the night)
3. Arigato or Arigato Gozaimasu
"Arigato" is short for thank you. The complete form is "Arigato Gozaimasu". Some of the locals use
the slang "domo" when they are in a hurry.
4."Sumimasen"
If you want to catch the attention of a Japanese local to ask directions or if you need their help, then
you need to say "Sumimasen", or excuse me in English. This is can also be used when you accidentally
bumped into someone as an apology.
5. Asking
If it's your first time to visit Japan, then there might come a time that you need to ask the locals some
questions about things that you don't know about. Some of these are:
o Korewa nan desuka? -- asking what a certain object is
o Wa doko desuka? -- asking for direction
o Nanji desuka? -- asking for the current time
o Ikura desuka -- how much is the item/service? (monetary)
6. "Sayonara"
This is the equivalent of goodbye in Japanese. This is considered to be a polite gesture when you tell
someone that you will be leaving or to see some of the locals off.
7. "Tasukete"
When you are in need of help or if you want to catch the attention of the locals that you are in trouble,
then you only need to say "tasukete" (tas-soo-keh-the).
8. Please
Please is a universal language for politeness and respect, especially in the case of the Japanese locals.
When you offer them something then say "Dozo". If you want to ask for something then you need to
say "Onegai Shimasu".
9. "Wakarimasen"
When a local is starting to talk to you in Japanese fast and hard, then you say "Wakarimasen", which
simple means "I don't understand".
10. Bathroom
It would be a waste of time doing charade in front of the locals when you need to go to the bathroom.
To avoid wasting any more time in this scenario, ask them for directions to the nearest bathroom by
saying "Toire wa doko desuka?"
Quick Ways To Learning Dutch
Dutch is the national language of the Netherlands; it is spoken by about 22 million people around the
world, mainly in the Netherlands, Belgium and Suriname. Afrikaans, an offshoot of Dutch, is widely
spoken in the African nations of South Africa and Namibia.
Dutch is a natural choice of study as a second language for any German language speaker, due to the
similarities between the languages. Those that live in former Dutch colonies and speak Creole
languages derived from Dutch, or the speakers of Afrikaans, will also find it very easy to learn the
Dutch language.
People traveling to the Netherlands for work or to study over there will find it essential to learn Dutch.
Knowledge of basic conversational Dutch will also be a useful skill for people visiting the Netherlands
on a vacation.
Whether you would like to get familiar with the Dutch language for work related purposes or simply
because you are interested in the language, there are many interesting options that you can choose
from. The conventional choice is, of course, to join a language institute and get tutored by a Dutch
teacher.
Unfortunately, not too many of us have the luxury of time to attend school classes on a regular basis. If
daily or weekly classes aren't your cup of tea, the best way for you to learn the Dutch language is to use
various modes of self-learning that are now available.
There are plenty of books and CD-based learning material available for learning Dutch. CD-based
learning scores over books as it is capable of providing interesting multimedia learning content; audio
and video guides and quizzes and games to test and improve one's learning.
Say it in Dutch is an online bookstore specializing in Dutch learning books that cater to varied needs,
along with CDs and Dutch accessories. One of the books on display on this site is 'A Bite of Dutch, our
Mini Conversation Course', a good book for people looking to gain basic conversational skills in the
Dutch language, without bothering about the grammar or the written part of the language.
Dutch at verbalplanet.com is an excellent site for people looking for an innovative way to learn the
Dutch language online. It offers live lessons from native speakers of the Dutch language through the
Internet. This site has partnered with Skype to enable the learner to hold voice chats with a tutor of
his/her choice.
The learner holds real conversations with a native tutor of the language to help grasp the nuances of the
language. They get useful tidbits on the Netherlands and Dutch culture from their tutor, giving them a
well rounded learning experience. The site also has links to sites selling Dutch learning books, software
and various other related resources.

Family Camping Tips
One of the fondest childhood memories I have are
camping with my dad. My dad and I would grab our tent,
sleeping bags and fishing poles and head down to a local
lake for a weekend.
Camping can be a wonderful activity for the entire
family. It can also become a huge calamity if you are not
prepared or don’t know what to expect.
If you are not experienced at camping then it might be
best to start with a commercial campground. These
campgrounds are often listed in the yellow pages.
The costs of these campgrounds is often nominal and they usually have showers, bathrooms, electrical
hookups, running water nearby, fire pits and a camp store for any necessities that you may have
forgotten.
Established commercial campgrounds also often have activities for the entire family including
swimming pools, hiking trails, paddle boats and fishing lakes. Although most of these campgrounds are
set up for campers they almost at always have tent sites as well.
Once you have tried camping at an established campground you may decide to want to rough it out in
the woods on your own. To find locations for tent camping you might try doing an internet search on
camping.
Regardless of where you go camping it is important that you be prepared. The following is a list of
items you should consider for ensuring you are prepared for an enjoyable camping trip.
Camping Inventory
1. Tent. You can find a wide selection of tents in various sizes from 2 person tents to family sizes. You
might consider getting the children their own tent. They will enjoy having their own space.
2. Sleeping bags and an air mattress if desired.
3. Flash lights and extra batteries.
4. Matches
5. Cookware. Cooking on an open fire will probably not be good for your best cookware so you might
want to bring older pots and pans or consider buying a camping cookware set. Think ahead about foods
that will be easy to cook on a fire.
6. Firewood. If you are not camping at an established campground you may not have access to
firewood.
7. First Aid kit. This should include band aids, peroxide, gauze, burn crème, tape, a tool for removing
splinters, and anti bug spray.
8. Water for drinking
9. Trash bags. Whether you go camping at an established campground or in the woods somewhere it is
imperative that you leave the area exactly as you found it. If the location does not have trash bins then
pick up your trash and take it with you. Don’t ruin the experience for the next family.
If you carefully plan your camping trip and expect the unexpected by being prepared for anything you
will have a great time camping.
Booking Your Summer Beach Break
With the exception of your friends and family it always
seems to be the same type of people you speak to about
summer holidays.
With me it always seems to be taxi drivers or barbers. After
the invariable discussions of how bad the weather is and
asking how busy they have been on that particular day the
normal silence begins as your mind drifts off on to other
things.
However, I often find the next step in conversation often
leads to one party enquiring “Are you going away anywhere
nice in the summer this year?”.
By the time this question has been asked you have now encompassed the entire range of British small
talk obsessions – the weather, complaining about work and summer holiday’s. At least the last topic is
fun!
It is possible to stereotype this conversation further. How often for example have you had the
following conversation;
You : “Miserable weather today”
Service Sector Employee : “Yes very depressing, it is supposed to be like this all week”
You : “So are you going anywhere nice on your holiday’s this year?”
Service Sector Employee : “I think I’m just going to book something last minute”
It is certainly true that the British love a last minute bargain. No planning, no fuss and inexpensive.
What could be better? Just jump on an Easy Jet (http://www.easyjet.com ) and head off to Costa Del
Sunny. To be honest there is very little harm in this as there are certainly many good deals to be had,
even if it does mean you are adopting the lucky dip approach to holidaymaking.
However, what is a mistake is the common misconception that the only way to get a real discount
holiday is to wait until the last minute before you book. Indeed often now the opposite is true with
consumers being rewarded for early bookings.
The other advantage of this of course is it reduces the chances of ending up on Watchdog in early
September complaining about the 40 minute walk to the beach and the builders who woke you up every
morning at 6.30 am.
To be honest there is no real excuse not to be organised when it comes to booking your sunshine
holiday these days. Websites such as Superbreak (http://www.superbreak.com ) offer fantastic ranges
of beach and apartment breaks across the globe and booking anything from a three week hotel holiday
to a quick short break couldn’t be simpler. The advantage you get is you know exactly what you are
getting – at a competitive price.
To many the thought of going on a beach holiday for a short break would break with tradition, however
growing numbers of savvy travellers are discovering the joys of being in work one minute and then
basking on a sun kissed beach a couple of hours later.
Traditionally, the British are very predictable when it comes to holidaymaking. Every year literally
thousands of people take there usual two weeks off to find some sunshine in Spain, Greece or Florida.
Beach holidays are seen as the main annual break where people can switch off for a fortnight, sit in the
sun and unwind.
However, many forward thinking companies have started to challenge these traditions and open up UK
consumers to the idea of beach breaks that can be enjoyed over a shorter period of time.
Perhaps one of the main reasons why such breaks are becoming more accessible are the discount
airlines such as Aerlingus (http://www.aerlingus.com ) offering cheap return flights to popular sunshine
resorts such as Ibiza, Gran Canaria and Cyprus. Combining these discount flights with the abundance
of hotel and accommodation deals that are on offer means that beach breaks are becoming increasingly
competitive.
Overall, taking 2-3 days to top up your tan is becoming easier to do for the UK traveller and the appeal
of being on a beach in an exotic location a matter of hours after leaving your work is strong – just don’t
always leave it to the last minute to book – you will have a lot more to talk about with your hairdresser
as a result!
Getting The Right Camping Equipment
Having the right camping equipment will make your
outdoor experience safer and more fun. The more often you
camp, the more you may want to invest in nicer equipment
and supplies.
Some of these items will make your camping trip more
convenient and more comfortable. Shop on the Internet and
at local sporting goods stores to research prices and
available pieces.
Shelter
Tents are the traditional means of sheltering from the
environment when camping. There are many styles
available with various features. Your budget and needs will determine which one is right for you.
Tents can range from $100 to more than $500. Use of tarps and padding can help with waterproofing
and comfort.
Sleeping
Sleeping bags are a minimum requirement for keeping warm and comfortable while sleeping. However
there are other sleeping options and accessories that can make sleeping more comfortable. Quality
sleeping bags start at approximately $50.00 and can go up depending on features. Adding a sleeping
mat and sleeping pillow that are waterproof can also enhance comfort.
Cooking
Campfire cooking can be a fun way to eat meals but if you want a bit more flexibility there are many
tools available. Hibachi style portable grills can give you a means of grilling meats, heating sauces, and
vegetables without having to build a fire on the ground. Gas powered portable stoves are also available
and can range from $50 to $200. These are affordable ways to make cooking more convenient and give
you more options. Coolers are useful to keep perishable items from spoiling. There are also mini
refrigerators available.
Safety
Survival and first aid kits are essential supplies for every camper. They can help save lives and tend to
minor ailments. Ensure you always have a fully stocked survival and first aid kit available. These
should include items for bandaging, pain relief, insect bites and topical antibiotics. Survival kits should
include items for warmth, light, food and water. You can purchase pre-made kits or make a checklist
and purchase individual items.
Fun
Camping guides and books are useful to bring to help identify wildlife and to give tips while outdoors.
They can also include recipes and ideas for fun. Kayaks can be a fun way to enjoy the water and many
are available in inflatable models, making them lightweight. Binoculars can help look for wildlife and
nature. Toys like Frisbees and footballs can provide entertainment while outdoors.
After deciding where you will camp, make a list of activities you want to engage in. Then, compile a
checklist of all supplies and gear needed to ensure you will have a safe and fun trip. Make sure to go
through the list so nothing is missed. This will ensure you have everything needed for an enjoyable
camping vacation.
Selecting The Destination For Boat Travel
Once you have decided that you would be taking a holiday on
a cruise, sailing through small cities and ports, your next step
would be to decide on which cruise you should opt for.
One is spoilt for choice with the luxurious spread of boat trips
that one can choose from.
Knowing about a few simple trends and measures, could help
you choose that perfect ship which would be ideal in every
respect for you and make your journey a memorable one.
Decide on the time span of your boat travel. Do not plan a
long voyage if you have little time available on hand.
Visiting one or two ports over a period of three to four days could be cheap. Fellow passengers on such
cruises are likely to be youthful, partying kinds. Short, week-long cruises are more popular, and
comparatively cheaper, they usually visit more ports of call.
However, seven days, can pass by soon and you might still have fellow passengers who are party
animals. Cruises which are longer than a week visit more ports of call and in locations more exotic, like
the Mediterranean or the South of America, though your co-passengers are likely to be more restrained.
The cost and time involved in such cruises hamper more people from opting for them.
While making your decision, do keep in mind your budget. You have a large range to choose from and
you are sure to find one that fits your choice. Web sites and travel agents could offer you great deals at
low prices. Be aware of port, cruise cancellation insurance, and airfare charges and whether your cruise
is charging you for them or not.
Apart from time and money there are other factors which you should consider before selecting on
something suitable. Time of travel, ability to carry out your hobbies, and the number of ports you want
to visit, should also be considering factors.
There is nothing as frustrating as being stuck at sea, while you are sailing past through beautiful
islands. Some places are easily accessible and sometimes more popular during the winter; Mexico, the
Caribbean, and the Panama Canal, are such destinations; but visitors should be careful of hurricane
seasons. Again European and Alaskan cruises are usually not available during winter months.
Incase you have other preferences apart from that of money, time and itinerary; consider them before
you zero in on a particular choice.
Though differences between different vessels have been lessened over time, there are a few which are
better and much more luxurious than the others. Evaluations of cruise ships are available online as well
as in travel journals, ask your travel agent or talk to friends.
As a conclusion, remember that, scouring the available options for your next cruise however is not the
time to give up what you actually want; be it an opportunity to watch whales in Alaska or have your
hair braiding done in Nassau.
Guide To A Fishing Vacation
Going on a fishing vacation can bring relaxation to you and
your family. Not only will you be able to enjoy nature and
spend time with those you love, you will also be able to get
a free meal.
There are a number of different vacations that you can
participate in. While some vacations can last a weekend,
others can come in the form of extended tours that can last
for days or weeks.
There are a large number of remote areas around the world
where you can fish in an environment that is serene and
comfortable. When you are planning a fishing vacation, you
will first want to decide what type of fishing you're interested in.
Fishing can basically be divided into two types, and this is saltwater or freshwater. You will also want
to decide what type of fish you're interested in. There are many species of fish, and you may want
salmon, trout, or mackerel. To get the the right fish, you will need to make sure you choose a location
that contains the fish you're interested in.
Another thing you will want to look at is your budget. The options will range from local lakes or ponds
to luxury hotels where you can fish while staying at a resort. Your vacation can be simple, or it can be
complex. The choice is up to you. Some people are independent and will want to travel alone, while
others will want to use a travel agent.
Fishing vacations can be taken during any season of the year. Depending on where you travel during
the winter, you may be required to cut a hole in the ice if you wish to fish. If you plan your vacation
carefully, you can have the same experience that is achieved by expert fishermen.
One thing that you will need to acquire is a fishing license. All the other equipment can be rented, and
this is generally a much cheaper option to use instead of purchasing it directly from the manufacturer.
Some of the equipment you will need for your trip is a reel, rod, and a boat. A life jacket and first aid
kit should be purchased as well.
Fishing vacations are excellent for families. They can give you time to spend together that won't be
distracted by the many things you will have to deal with on standard vacations. You don't have to be a
master fisherman to enjoy your vacation. There have been cases were novices were much more
successful than seasoned professionals. Even if you don't like fish, or are a vegetarian, you can still
practice catch and release methods for handling fish.
While there are many packaged fishing tours available in the United States, they can also be found in
foreign countries. With the number of available options, some people mave have a hard time deciding
where they want to fish. One of the best advantages of taking an organized tour is that everything you
need is readily available.
Depending on how far you want to travel from home, you may need to take a plane, and carrying
around the necessary equipment will be difficult. At the same time, those who are independent may not
want to be stuck in organized tours, and will enjoy planning the entire trip themselves.

How to Book a Cruise for Less
So you’ve always wanted to take a dream cruise
vacation.
Maybe it’s one of those things that wound up on the
back burner, but you’ve started to believe that you
just won’t be able to save up the money to take
yourself and the spouse, or the whole family, on
such a trip. Think again.
The cruise industry is growing faster than ever, and
with this huge expansion comes more opportunities
to save money on special cruise deals.
With more vacationers taking to the seas cruise lines are growing larger and can afford to offer special
discounts to customers to get more people hooked on this luxury style of vacationing. Those looking
for a cruise vacation can make a few smart decisions and save themselves a lot of cash without much
sacrifice.
The first step is to look into theme packages. Many cruises offer special discounts for certain lifestyles
or age groups. There may be a family discount, a golden years discount, or a honeymoon discount
available.
Depending on what type of cruise you want and who’s going with you, this can be a huge money-saver
if you’re willing to accept what is offered in the packaged deal.
When it comes time to book your cruise, believe it or not, don’t be too hasty. Many cruise lines receive
unexpected cancellations at the last minute, and are eager to fill the empty slots.
A would-be vacationer can often get extremely good deals if their schedule allows them to wait until
the last minute to book. Call a cruise line days before a ship sets sail, and you might be pleasantly
surprised by what you hear regarding discount rates for last-minute trips.
If you find a cruise line that you like, consider booking any future cruise vacations with the same line.
Many cruise lines give discounts to repeat customers and you will probably receive a good percentage
off your rate if you book a cruise at the same time each year with the same company.
Talk to a travel agent who specializes in cruises. Often these agents can get you deals as well,
especially with cruise lines they book often. By booking through an experienced travel agent you may
earn the instant right to be a preferred customer.
Finally, do your research! There are many sites online for discount cruise fares, just as there are for
airfares and other types of travel.
Some websites specialize in locating cheap cruises for those who wish to vacation on a budget. Make
use of a search engine, and don’t get discouraged… your cheap cruise is out there somewhere. The
trick is using resources and a little brain work to find it.
How To Pack For A Luxury World Cruise
With the popularity of luxury world cruises growing, there are
more and more people asking for advice once they have
decided that a world cruise is the vacation of their dreams.
Keeping in mind that most world cruises last between 100 and
250 days, there are a lot of things to think about. One of the
most often asked question is, “What should we pack?”
Here are a few helpful suggestions, and though some may
seem obvious, it is important to have a running list so that you
don’t get confused about what you have or have not packed.
After all, you will be gone the greater part of a year, so be
prepared!
Clothing
Travelers interested in a luxury world cruise should not pack a new outfit for each day. To make your
wardrobe appear fresh without overdoing it, pack about ten tops and bottoms that can be mixed and
matched, and bring accent pieces such as scarves and attention getting shoes to spice up your looks.
You will be doing a lot of walking, so bring at least 20 pairs of socks.
You should also bring about five pairs of shoes, three which are comfortable and made for walking.
Chances are your boat will have a swimming pool, so make sure you include your swimsuit. A
windbreaker and a coat are a must, so that no matter how mild or cold the weather is, you are prepared.
You should also be prepared for formal nights, and bring about three formal outfits.
Electronics
You may not think of bringing electronics on your luxury world cruise, but there are some items that
you may need in order to continue the lifestyle you are used to at home. First and foremost, bring a
power strip and/or outlet converter. Check to make sure your ship is equipped with USA outlets, and if
not bring the appropriate converters.
Chances are there will only be one or two outlets in your cabin, and this will help you tremendously. Of
course, bring your camera. If you are using a film camera, be sure to bring lots and lots of extra film. If
you are using digital, you should bring an extra memory card and a charging cable. You may also want
to bring a laptop so that you can download your pictures instantly.
A laptop will also help you keep in touch with family and privately access the internet in your cabin.
You might also pack an alarm clock to ensure that you don’t miss any early morning activities.
Paper Work
There are certain important documents you will want to bring on your luxury world cruise. The first
and most often forgotten is your passport. Although it is true that most cruise ships will not require you
to bring your passport, when going on a world cruise you should definitely bring one.
Chances are you will be visiting upwards of twenty countries, and should something happen to prevent
you from reembarking the ship, that passport is the only item that stands between you and being
stranded.
You should keep several copies of your passport and ID. You should have one extra copy in a
completely random place on your body every time you leave the ship (such as your shoe), one in your
cabin safe, one in your luggage and one checked with the ship’s purser. It is also a good idea to bring
your insurance card, and a prescription card if you have one.
There will be an onboard doctor, but to avoid any extremely expensive charges made because of health
care, present your card when you are treated. It is a good idea to keep several copies of these as well.
Packing the right clothing, electronics and paperwork can be vital to the success of your luxury world
cruise. Arriving prepared will give you peace of mind. Packing right will also save you money in the
long run, so that you do not have to purchase overpriced items at the onboard boutique or abroad,
unless you want to.
A luxury world cruise is the adventure of a lifetime, and now that you know what to pack, you can look
forward to embarking on an adventure full of excitement and empty of worry.
The Simple Truth About Luxury Cruising
Cruising has become a top recreational choice for many
people, however, if you are hesitating to take a cruise because
of some common myths, then you are possibly missing out on
a great vacation experience. Let’s go over each myth and see
what the real deal is.
Only old people go on cruises
Several years ago, cruises were heavily populated with elderly
people, since they always had plenty of time on their hands to
take a leisurely cruise for weeks on end. Visions of old ladies
with blue hair and countless shuffle board games are not
appealing to the younger set.
These days, you’ll be happy to know, that most cruise passengers are younger people. The elderly only
make up a small percentage of passengers. More people in their teens and 20s are also going on cruises.
In fact, you might have a hard time keeping up with all the activities geared towards the younger set.
I’ll be forced to do everything on a set schedule
It used to be that all meals and activities stuck to a very rigid schedule. Breakfast at 9am, lunch at
12pm, dinner at 6pm, etc. This is mostly a thing of the past. While you’ll find that major meals are still
served between certain times, there are a lot of eating alternatives where you can grab a bite to eat or sit
down for a nice dinner, without eating in the main dining room.
Activities happen at all hours of the day, so if you want to sleep in, there will still be plenty for you to
do when you wake up.
There’s not enough to do – I’ll be bored stiff
It used to be a well known fact that the entertainment on board a cruise ship was pretty pathetic: table
tennis, card games, shuffleboard, and reading a good book was about the extent of the good times.
Nowadays, there are enough activities to keep even the most energetic person busy around the clock.
Dancing, sports, games, physical exercise, swimming, shows, are just a few of the activities available
on board the ship.
When the ship lands at an exciting destination, you’ll be on your way to having the time of your life,
including site seeing and partaking of all the fun things you’ve planned to do while visiting new places
and tourist attractions.
You see, there’s no reason to put off planning your very own cruise vacation right now. Today’s cruise
ships are pretty much floating cities, with all of the attractions and accommodations that any well
traveled city would have. In fact, it’ll probably take you 10 fun-packed cruises before you start getting
bored. Now that’s a whole bunch of fun.
Boat Travel Gets You Traveling
When it comes to set sail you will find that there is a
lot of fun that that you can have on a boat of luxury.
You will find that there are small exotic ports that you
can go for and you will be able to choose where you
go and when you go.
You will want to follow some of the following
guidelines, because it can be hard to have the perfect
vacation while sailing a boat.
First, you will need to decide where your direction of
destination is and how long you plan to be gone.
For those who have a steady life, voyage is something that you may not want to do, but there are many
ports and islands off the coast of America that you can travel to and still be able to enjoy the customs
that you are use to.
You will find that there are many locations that you can to as well. You can go up or down the ocean
coast and still have a great time. You will find that there are places in South America and other close
islands so that you can get that exotic vacation.
Where you sail, you will be able to determine depending on the time period that you have. You may
want to do a thorough research of the destination before you set sail. Make sure that you will have
plenty of time to get there and back.
You don’t want to be lost at sea for a few days or hours and feel the pressure of having to be back at
work in a few hours. The least of your worries should be your timing. When you go to sail, you will
want to make sure that you are in the port for at least three or four days so that you can really enjoy
your vacation.
Also, you will want to think about the money that you will need. You will find that there are some
places and ports that can be very expensive. You will find that there are areas near the ports that you
can travel to, but then you will have to think about the cost of your land traveling. You will find that
there are prices of life that you can get off the Internet and then there are sites that will suggest now
much money you will want to take with you.
When it comes to sailing, you may find it more comfortable if you charter a cruise. You will find that
when it comes to cancellation of the cruise, you will be able to get flown back to the states and that
money is included in your trip. This is not something that you will get when you sail your own boat.
You will find that there are plenty of benefits that you can get from charters, especially if you are not a
professional sailor.
You will be able to have all the comforts of home when you take the time to budget for a cruise.
Cruises not only make great vacations, but they are also great to do when you are trying to save your
marriage or regenerate the love and romance.
You will find plenty of opportunity when it comes to vacationing with a boat. You will be able to go
places and see things that you could never imagine. You will find that there are plenty of things that
you can do to feel safe and secure while on the open seas.
The Best Time To Go On Diving Holidays
If you are not familiar with the whereabouts of the Red
Sea, you can pretty well say it runs down the eastern
border of Egypt from the Sinai Peninsula on the Israel
border, where you will find the Taba Hotels complex,
down through Sharm el Sheikh, onto Hurghada, and then
Soma Bay and beyond.
These are the names of the best known hotel and resort
areas. It is a part of the world that has been a must for
scuba divers almost for ever.
The question here is, when is the best time to visit,
because Egypt and the Red Sea have classically been a
winter sun destination for European Holidaymakers.
I have visited Taba, and Sharm in the early Spring, when the weather was pleasant, but it became very
cool in the evenings, and Soma Bay in July when the temperature was consistently 45 degrees, but with
no humidity, and a good breeze, it was more than bearable!!
The main difference between the two visits was the fact that at Taba it was relatively busy, Sharm was
packed, whereas at Soma Bay there was only 10% occupancy in a superb hotel called Les Residence
des Cascades!!
Having said that there is increasing evidence that tour operators are now concentrating on the Egypt
Red Sea area in the summer months, believing it to be more profitable for them than Spain or the
Meditteranean in Euroland.
This means prices that were low in the summer months are now rising with demand.
School holidays are now expensive, but the season as in Europe now runs from May until October. This
means the Tour Operators have their capacity geared to these months. In other words if you can travel
in September, when incidentally the water is warm for scuba divers, or May and June, then you may
well find some real bargains.
One piece of advice is don’t book early. If you can wait until late April or early May before booking
June, it is likely the Operators will not have sold their allotment of beds, so prices can tumble
dramatically.
So when is the best time to go to the Red Sea, the answer is probably June.
What to Pack on Ski Vacations
If you will be traveling for a ski vacation, it is often
difficult to know what to pack.
You may not even have a problem knowing what to
pack, but instead have a problem figuring how to get
everything that you need from your home to your
destination.
Skis do not easily fit into suitcases, and if you are
flying, this presents a huge problem.
Start by knowing what is available at your destination.
Is there a rental shop?
How much are the rental fees for skis, boots, and poles. If it is reasonable, and you don’t mind skiing
with rented equipment, this is a viable option – and it makes packing and traveling much easier.
If you don’t care for rented equipment, there is another option. Find out if there are any ski shops in
the area. There usually are. Get prices on skis, poles, and boots, and then ask if they buy used
equipment.
If they don’t, ask if there is anyone near by that does purchase used equipment.
Call that place to get an estimate on how much you could get for barely used ski equipment. Figure the
difference in the money you will spend on the ski equipment, and the money you will get for the used
equipment when you are finished with it. If it isn’t much more than what it would cost you to rent the
equipment, go for it!
Ski suits, ski jackets, and sweaters can be very bulky, and hard to pack. These items will take up a lot of
room in your suitcase, and leave less room for other clothing and essentials. If you are trying to pack
for a two week ski vacation, it will be impossible to fit everything you need into one suitcase.
There is a way to solve this. Call the lodge or resort where you will be staying. Tell them that you need
to ship a package, for yourself, to them, and that you need that package to be there when you arrive.
Ask them if they will hold it for you at the desk. In most cases, they will. Next, get a box, put all of
your ski suits, your ski jacket, and any other bulky items in the box, and ship it to yourself, in care of
the lodge or resort.
Shipping can be overnight, two day, or three day depending on how far it must travel. Depending on
how much the box weighs, you will usually pay less than fifty dollars to ship a package in the
continental United States….which is a lot less than you would pay an airline for extra baggage!
Choosing The Best Bass Fishing Lures
Bass fishing ures come in many different varieties. There are more
types of lures for bass fishing than for just about any other kind of
freshwater fish.
With so many different shapes, styles, sizes, and colors you'd have a
hard time trying out all of the options. It would take a long time to use
every type of bass fishing lure. While there are many different types,
some tend to be better than others. Most bass enthusiasts pick their
favorites and stick with them.
Crank Bait Lures
Crank bait is one of the most popular lures among bass fishers. This
type of lure got its name because of how it operates. They are
connected to the line and then cranked back into the fishing boat.
There is a vast array of different options when it comes to selecting
crank baits.
Some crank baits will float atop of the water when the fisher is no longer winding the reel. Others will
sink to the very bottom when the reel isn't being turned. Still another type stays suspended in the water,
not moving from the depth it was when the user stopped cranking.
Deep Water Crank Bait Lures
Some of these types of lures are intended for deeper water fishing and can go about 15 feet down below
the water's surface.
Medium Depth Crank Bait Lures
When fishing in water that is about 10 feet deep, you are better off using a different type of crank bait.
The best choice for this depth has a medium lip that will hit bottom once it reaches a depth of
approximately ten feet.
Shallow Water Crank Bait Lure
When fishing in water that is less than five feet deep, it is best go with a different option. For this
depth, fishers should use a lure designed for shallow water. This type has a small lip and will make hit
bottom at depths of approximately around 3 to 5 feet.
Top Water Bait Lure
Still another frequently use type of bass fishing lure is top water bait. This type of bait gets its name
because it floats all the time. They float even when they are being cranked in. A disadvantage of this
type of bait is that it is noisy. Noise is not ever desirable when bass fishing. It is particularly
problematic when trying to lure fish at dawn or in rough waters under cloudy skies.
Spinner Bait Lures
Spinner bait is yet another lure option for bass fishing enthusiasts. This style of lure is often used in
bass fishing This type of bait is actually tied directly to the fishing line or attached to a tiny swivel.
Spinner bait lures are bright and shiny, typically with blades that are either gold or silver. However,
they are often painted in different colors. Some enthusiasts prefer metallic spinner bait lures, and
others prefer painted ones.
The blades of spinner bait area available in many different shapes. The best bass fishers know that
sometimes the fish have to be outsmarted. The different shapes are created in the hopes of imitating the
different fish found in the waters. The idea behind spinner bait is to trick the bass into making an
impulsive strike.
Another unique characteristic of bass fishing lures is that they are used with rubber skirts. The rubber
skirts travel alongside the lure and help attract more bass, theoretically. These rubber skirts are
interchangeable, which allows for versatility. Many who enjoy bass fishing feel there is an advantage
to using a variety of different colored skirts. They enjoy being able to remove one color skirt and
replace it with another in the hopes that doing so will draw more fish.
With so many different options, bass fishing lures can get very complicated for anyone who doesn't
understand the dynamics of the sport of bass fishing.
Once a bass fishing enthusiast begins to to investigate the multitude of the different options for bass
fishing lures, he or she will likely see that it all makes sense. To an experienced bass fisher, the vast
array of available options is really not as overwhelming as it seem to a novice. The best thing for
novice bass fisher to do is just to start trying different options and experiment until they are able to find
their favorite lure.
Taking A Bird Watching Vacation
Bird watching has quickly become one of the most popular
hobbies in the World. What at one time was just a backyard
interest has now grown into extensive bird watching
vacations.
When looking for a bird watching vacation, you can choose
from one as simple as a weekend getaway or you can elect to
go on one as long as a 14-day extravaganza full of rare and
interesting birds to watch.
There are more than 1000 different species of birds in the
United States alone, all of which are unique in their own way.
Each species of bird has their own call pattern, sound, shape, and even a different beak.
As a bird watcher, you may only have about a half a second to identify a bird by seeing how it moves
through the trees, or by the shape of its wings.
For the amateur bird watcher, it can be frustrating out there alone, not knowing what to look for, or
what type of bird you have found. That is why a bird watching vacation can be quite an adventure for
you, as well as a time for you to learn a hobby that you may soon fall in love with. Usually bird
watching vacations are guided tours with a large group of people who enjoy helping others discover the
love of bird watching.
Where to Go On a Bird Watching Vacation
The possibilities are endless when deciding where to go on a bird watching vacation. Here are just a
few choices that have been rated some of the best bird watching vacation spots in the World. Costa
Rica has often been considered the Mecca of bird watching.
With such exquisite locations as the reserve of Bosque de Paz and the La Ensenada refuge, Costa Rica
is one of the most popular bird watching vacation spots to be found.
South Africa frequently offers bird watching vacations to Kruger Park, Pretoria, Hluhuwe Game
Reserve, and everywhere in between. Birders can experience a great variety of local birds, migrants,
and endemic birds that make up the almost 850 species that can be found in this stunning location.
During a winter bird watching vacation, you may want to find yourself on the sandy beaches of The
Grand Bahama Island. Grand Bahama Island has the distinction of being the 2nd most bird-populated
island in the Bahamas.
The Rand Nature Centre is home to West Indian Flamingos, Red-legged Thrushes, the endangered
Bahama parrot, as well as numerous other species of birds. While kayaking in the crystal clear water
you will have the chance to see rare birds that live in the Mangrove swamps, and the Caribbean Pine
Forest.
Opportunities are plenty on any of these bird watching vacations. It is up to you to choose the one that
takes you both to a beautiful location and one that will thrill the bird enthusiast within you.
Beginner Fly Fishing Basics
Everyone knows the basics of fishing. There’s a rod, reel,
fishing line, hook, bait; you cast the line, wait for a bite, and
reel in your dinner.
Experienced fishermen know there is more to it than that, but
for most of us that description appropriately sums it up.
However, there are many types of fishing, such as salt water
and fresh water, and perhaps the most artful of them all, fly
fishing.
You have probably heard of fly fishing - it has been in
recorded history for nearly 2000 years - and you probably
know that it does not involve fishing for flies, but if that is all
you know then a primer in fly fishing basics can bring you up to speed.
Unlike other forms of fishing, fly fishing does not typically use any kind of organic bait, live or dead.
Instead, fly fisherman use artificial flies – ribbon, string, hair, feathers – as a lure to attract fish.
The artificial flies are attached to the hook and line, and the fisherman attracts fish with movement that
makes the fly look like an insect that is moving on or above the surface of the water. The nature of that
artificial bait is the first and most important element to understand when examining fly fishing basics.
Another aspect of fly fishing basics, an aspect that separates fly fishing from most other variations of
fishing, is the way the line is cast. Other kinds of fishing rely on casting a line and attracting fish with
the bait, but fly fishing requires a much more skillful method of luring the fish.
A fly fisherman casts his lure toward the fish and uses rhythmic movements to make the lure fly above
the water, skimming the top, or even diving under the surface, all in an effort to replicate the
movements of an insect that might entice a hungry fish to strike.
If you understand fly fishing basics, you might wonder what you need to give it a try. Fly fishermen
usually use rods that are longer and lighter than typical fishing rods. The reel used is typically quite
simple because it is generally used only to retrieve the hook and lure – and hopefully a fish! Before
casting, fly fishermen usually create slack in the line by pulling some from the reel.
That slack allows the lure to fly freely to the targeted area. Choosing the proper lure is another aspect
of fly fishing basics that one should understand before setting off to cast their line.
Fly fishing implies that the lure is intended to resemble the characteristics of flies, but fly fishing is
hardly limited to that. The sport has evolved in recent years, and many fly fishermen now choose lures
and casting techniques that mimic the primary prey of the fish they are attempting to catch. However,
specific baits and the eating characteristics of various species of fish are beyond the realm of fly fishing
basics.
An understanding of fly fishing basics is not enough to prepare one to head off to the nearest lake or
stream. If you are interested in expanding your knowledge, or trying fly fishing yourself, spend some
time reading on the subject, and if possible seek the tutelage of an experienced fly fisherman.
Only then can you begin to understand more than fly fishing basics, such as specific recommendations
on rods, reels, line weight, lures, and most important, the great places where fly fisherman must make a
pilgrimage.
To Safe Traveling!
Best Regards,
Dann Byers.

  • 5. Travel How To Save Money When Traveling We all want to have a nice, relaxing vacation from time to time, if possible on a sunny beach in a foreign country. When we finally manage to get it, we find ourselves confronted with other issues - apart from the usual hotel reservations, flight, etc. When you travel to a foreign country, you feel the need to tell everyone back home how things are, assure them you're alright and you're having fun. Unfortunately, it's not always that easy. And here's why: If you have a cell phone with you, you may surprisingly find that it's not working properly, because the cell phone operator in the country that you're in uses a different technology or you don't have international calling activated. And if all the above doesn't apply, you may find yourself in an area with poor or no network coverage at all... If you don't have your cell phone with you, the only thing left to do is to try to call from a local phone or from the hotel. In both situations, you're at a disadvantage, mainly because it involves huge costs - international calls are charged with much higher rates because of the technology involved and depending on the agreements between carriers and operators in different countries. Plus, hotels always charge you extra for using their lines. So what's the solution? It's very simple - get a calling card before you leave. Nowadays, calling cards are the easiest and most affordable communication way when you're traveling. When you buy it, you receive instantly a PIN number, access numbers from all international locations and dialing instructions. Most of the time, you'll also have special local access numbers in cities across the world - you'll get a lower rate when using them. Plus, you can get a call back feature - meaning that not only you'll be able to call home, but also your friends and family can call you back! And all this at a very low cost, enabling you to do more of the things you like during your vacation. Guide To Using International Airports When scheduling a flight, whether that flight be domestic or international, all passengers are advised to familiarize themselves with the airport that they will be flying out of, as well as the airline that they will be flying with. Unfortunately, not all air travelers know how to go about doing this. If you are looking to familiarize yourself with international airlines or airports, namely the ones that you will be using, you will find that you have a number of different options.
  • 6. Perhaps, the best way to learn more about an international airport is to use the internet to your advantage. You can do this by performing a standard internet search. You will want to search with the name of the international airport that you would like more information on. For instance, if you are looking for more information on Des Moines International Airport, you will want to search with the words Des Moines Airport or International Airport. Whichever international airport you search for, it is likely that your search will return a number of results. One of those results should be the online website run by the airport in question. Once at the online website for an international airport, you will find that you now have access to an unlimited amount of information; information that you were likely looking to obtain. Although all online websites will vary, you will find that most airline websites display the same information. This information may include, but should not be limited to, information on incoming and outgoing flights, air travel rules, shops and other dining establishments, parking, airport directions, and terminal locations. You are advised to examine all of the information on the site, regardless of whether or not you feel that you need to know it. As previously mentioned, it is likely that your internet search will return a number of different results. In addition to the airport’s online website, you will also find sites that discuss the airport in question. Many times, these websites are operated by travelers who frequently use the international airport being discussed. You may be able to find detailed information on low-cost dining or information on quick and easy ways to maneuver around the airport. While this information may be useful to you, it is important to remember that it is not guaranteed. For the best information, you are advised to examine the online website operated and monitored by airport staff. In addition to using the internet, you should also be able to obtain information on the airport in question by directly contacting them. If you are researching a local international airport, you should be able to find the contact information for that airport in your local phone book. When contacting an international airport for general information on their services and features, you will want to try and reach the customer service department. Customer service representatives should be willing to answer your question, where as the maintenance department will likely be unable to assist you. Although not all international airports recommend it, you could also learn more about the international airport that you will be using by visiting it. If you live within a reasonable driving distance to the airport or if you are in the area for another reason, you may want to quickly stop by. While this is a great way to familiarize yourself with the airport, you will not have access to all areas. All airports have restrictions when it comes to security checkpoints, passengers without boarding passes are not allowed past them. Stopping by the airport, may enable you to scope out the parking situations, as well as obtain informational brochures on the airport, if they are available. When it comes to international airport shopping, parking, or dining, you may also be able to receive recommendations or tips from those that you know, especially those that have flown out of the international airport in question before. Regardless of where you get your information from, you will find that are an unlimited number of benefits to knowing everything that you can know about the international airport that you will be using.
  • 7. Finding A Cheap Ticket For Your Flight With gasoline prices going through the roof and increased costs due to new security measurements, airline ticket prices have risen drastically in the last few years. Flights that were once under two hundred dollars can now cost up to three times as much as before. However, it is still possible to find a cheap ticket if you are willing to be flexible and to do a little research. The Internet is a great tool for helping you find affordable deals that leave you with a little extra cash to spend on your vacation. Today’s most popular way to locate cheap tickets is through online discount sites like Expedia and Hotwire. These two sites and others like them are devoted to finding discount travel rates on cars, flights and hotels. You can type in a departure and arrival city and the dates you want to travel, and the site will search its databases and bring up a list of budget rates. The more flexible you are, the greater your chances of finding a cheap ticket. There is a catch, however, when you book flights on Hotwire or Expedia. Most of the discount rates are available on unpopular flight times, typically with early morning or late night departures or arrivals. Also, if you have set dates and times that cannot be adjusted, it can be hard to find a cheaper rate. These website services work best if you have a two or three day window for both your departure and your return. That way, the site can choose from a wider variety of flight combinations, giving you the lowest ticket prices available. Another cheap ticket seller on the Internet is Priceline.com. This website allows you to enter your travel dates and to offer your own ticket price. If your price is accepted by an airline, you can purchase the ticket at that guaranteed rate. This process can several hours, and if you receive the price you proposed, you are obligated to purchase the ticket. Because of this, you are not able to choose which airline you use. Though Priceline is not as flexible as other ways of purchasing cheap tickets, sometimes you can get amazing deals that you can’t find any other way. Travel sites like Priceline and Hotwire do offer another advantage in addition to cheap airplane tickets. They also offer the options of booking hotels and car rentals at the same time as your flight. When you book all of your travel needs at once, you can save even more on your expenses, leaving you more money to spend once you reach your destination. Some airlines offer cheap tickets directly through special web deals. Visit an airline website and locate links for special Internet offers, and you may be surprised at what you can find. Most offer weekly or monthly specials to particular destinations, and you can often save a lot of money by booking your flight online. If you are a member of a frequent flier program, you can save money of flights not only by using your miles to purchase tickets, but also by taking advantage of the special rates offered to club members. Sign up for email updates from your affiliated airline, and you will become privy to many of their discount specials.
  • 8. On rare occasions, airlines may offer two for one tickets to certain destinations when you use frequent flier miles, or they may offer extra miles when you rent a car from a certain company or stay in a certain hotel. Take advantage of credit card affiliations, as well. You can often earn frequent flier miles by making purchases on a specific credit card affiliated with your airline of choice. Guide To Moving Houses With Pets If you’re a pet owner and are planning to move to a new home, remember that moving can be even more stressful for your animals than it is for you. But there are several things you can do to make it easier on your dog or cat. Start your packing well ahead of time; it’s not only easier on you, but on your pets as well. During the time leading up to your move, try to keep your pets’ eating and exercise schedules as normal as possible. Give them the same amount of attention and affection as you always do. Things to do before your move: Get copies of certificates, medical, and immunization records from your veterinarian. Purchase identification tags with your new address. If you’re planning to travel by air, schedule your flights early and try to book a direct flight – this will be much easier on your pet. You need to find out what the airline’s regulations are for transporting your pet. You will also need to find out what kind of crate will be necessary to contain your dog or cat.
  • 11. If you’re driving and the trip will take more than one day, be sure and check ahead and reserve motels that will accept pets. Contact the state to which you’re moving and find out the regulations regarding animals. Some states require an entry permit for pets. If your new home is nearby it’s a good idea to take your pets for a visit and let them become familiar with the neighborhood and the new sights and smells. This is especially true of dogs. Of course, keep the dog on a leash and the cat in a carrier. When Moving Day Finally Arrives . . . All the confusion is certain to upset your pet so the best solution is to have a friend or family member keep Fido or Fluffy while the loading is being done. If that isn’t an option, keep your pet in a small room, perhaps a bathroom, along with sufficient food, water (litter box for Fluffy) and some favorite toys. Attach a “Do Not Enter” sign on the door so the pet is secure and won’t be accidentally set free. You’re on Your Way . . . The packing and loading are all done and now it’s time to head for your new home. There are things you’ll want to make sure are packed for your pet. These include: The new identification tags. Different water can upset an animal’s digestive tract so it’s a good idea to provide water from the old house for the first few days after moving. This would not be a good time to try a new brand of food either! Your New Home ~ At Last . . . When you finally arrive at your new home, let your pet explore with your supervision. Then place Fido or Fluffy in a small room with a crate or bed (and, of course a litter box for Fluffy) while the unloading and unpacking are taking place. Make sure to put some favorite toys in there and perhaps an old sweatshirt, or something that smells familiar. It’s very important that you not let your pet outside alone without a lead or tie for the first few days. Cats usually require about a week but dogs adapt quicker. You don’t want your pet to wander away and get lost. Your pet may be insecure and more prone to misbehaving during the first few days in a new environment. Try to be patient and not punish the initial misbehavior, instead, try to find ways to reduce stress. Extra TLC can go a long way toward making pets more comfortable. It’s also a good idea to follow the usual feeding and exercise schedule.
  • 12. In closing, there are just a couple of things you should be aware of to keep the moving experience as trouble-free as possible: If you intend to fly, be aware that puppies and kittens less than 8 weeks old will not be transported. And finally, never move a sick animal ~ it could well make his condition worse and endanger his health. Enjoy your new home! Learning Spanish Has Never Been Easier Mnemonic memory training is a memory system that allows you to store information in and recall it from your long-term memory, and, in the case of learning a new language, your speech center. Mnemonics gives you a way to organize information, store it, and recall it. The better information is organized and stored, the easier you will be able to recall it when it is needed and the longer it will stay in your head. If you do mnemonics correctly, you concentrate and focus on information you want to remember in a way that will almost guarantee you will never forget it. Some twenty-five years after going through my first mnemonic memory course, I still recall vocabulary words in French and I do not speak French at all. In the course, as an exercise, we learned some French words using the Substitute Word System—a mnemonic device—and I still can remember them. Now that is Memory Training. This is what mnemonics does for you: it creates a way for a simple, effective, and efficient storage and retrieval system. In other words, mnemonics provides you a way to find the information in your head. It is essentially like a search engine on the Internet in your head. Some offer criticism of mnemonics. They say mnemonic training does not teach you to understand the information you are trying to remember. I find this a nonsense objection. Why would you be trying to remember something you do not understand? The very fact that you want to recall something means, in some way or other, you have a need to recall it and it implies there is at least some understanding of the material you are trying to remember. Another criticism is mnemonic training is time-consuming. The truth is that it is indeed time consuming—all memory work is. But would you rather engage in something that will guarantee you will be able to remember the information or engage in some rote memory exercise that will almost guarantee you will NOT recall the information? I find I can store more than twenty NEW Spanish vocabulary words per day and ALWAYS remember them. I know some who can do ten times that amount. Outdoors Family Camping Tips One of the fondest childhood memories I have are camping with my dad. My dad and I would grab our tent, sleeping bags and fishing poles and head down to a local lake for a weekend. Camping can be a wonderful activity for the entire family. It can also become a huge calamity if you are not prepared or don’t know what to expect. If you are not experienced at camping then it might be best to start with a commercial campground. These campgrounds are often listed in the yellow pages. The costs of these campgrounds is often nominal and they usually have showers, bathrooms, electrical hookups, running water nearby, fire pits and a camp store for any necessities that you may have forgotten. Established commercial campgrounds also often have activities for the entire family including swimming pools, hiking trails, paddle boats and fishing lakes. Although most of these campgrounds are set up for campers they almost at always have tent sites as well.
  • 19. Once you have tried camping at an established campground you may decide to want to rough it out in the woods on your own. To find locations for tent camping you might try doing an internet search on camping. Regardless of where you go camping it is important that you be prepared. The following is a list of items you should consider for ensuring you are prepared for an enjoyable camping trip. Camping Inventory 1. Tent. You can find a wide selection of tents in various sizes from 2 person tents to family sizes. You might consider getting the children their own tent. They will enjoy having their own space. 2. Sleeping bags and an air mattress if desired. 3. Flash lights and extra batteries. 4. Matches 5. Cookware. Cooking on an open fire will probably not be good for your best cookware so you might want to bring older pots and pans or consider buying a camping cookware set. Think ahead about foods that will be easy to cook on a fire. 6. Firewood. If you are not camping at an established campground you may not have access to firewood. 7. First Aid kit. This should include band aids, peroxide, gauze, burn crème, tape, a tool for removing splinters, and anti bug spray. 8. Water for drinking 9. Trash bags. Whether you go camping at an established campground or in the woods somewhere it is imperative that you leave the area exactly as you found it. If the location does not have trash bins then pick up your trash and take it with you. Don’t ruin the experience for the next family. If you carefully plan your camping trip and expect the unexpected by being prepared for anything you will have a great time camping. Booking Your Summer Beach Break With the exception of your friends and family it always seems to be the same type of people you speak to about summer holidays. With me it always seems to be taxi drivers or barbers. After the invariable discussions of how bad the weather is and asking how busy they have been on that particular day the normal silence begins as your mind drifts off on to other things. However, I often find the next step in conversation often leads to one party enquiring “Are you going away anywhere nice in the summer this year?”. By the time this question has been asked you have now encompassed the entire range of British small talk obsessions – the weather, complaining about work and summer holiday’s. At least the last topic is fun!
  • 20. It is possible to stereotype this conversation further. How often for example have you had the following conversation; You : “Miserable weather today” Service Sector Employee : “Yes very depressing, it is supposed to be like this all week” You : “So are you going anywhere nice on your holiday’s this year?” Service Sector Employee : “I think I’m just going to book something last minute” It is certainly true that the British love a last minute bargain. No planning, no fuss and inexpensive. What could be better? Just jump on an Easy Jet (http://www.easyjet.com ) and head off to Costa Del Sunny. To be honest there is very little harm in this as there are certainly many good deals to be had, even if it does mean you are adopting the lucky dip approach to holidaymaking. However, what is a mistake is the common misconception that the only way to get a real discount holiday is to wait until the last minute before you book. Indeed often now the opposite is true with consumers being rewarded for early bookings. The other advantage of this of course is it reduces the chances of ending up on Watchdog in early September complaining about the 40 minute walk to the beach and the builders who woke you up every morning at 6.30 am. To be honest there is no real excuse not to be organised when it comes to booking your sunshine holiday these days. Websites such as Superbreak (http://www.superbreak.com ) offer fantastic ranges of beach and apartment breaks across the globe and booking anything from a three week hotel holiday to a quick short break couldn’t be simpler. The advantage you get is you know exactly what you are getting – at a competitive price. To many the thought of going on a beach holiday for a short break would break with tradition, however growing numbers of savvy travellers are discovering the joys of being in work one minute and then basking on a sun kissed beach a couple of hours later. Traditionally, the British are very predictable when it comes to holidaymaking. Every year literally thousands of people take there usual two weeks off to find some sunshine in Spain, Greece or Florida. Beach holidays are seen as the main annual break where people can switch off for a fortnight, sit in the sun and unwind. However, many forward thinking companies have started to challenge these traditions and open up UK consumers to the idea of beach breaks that can be enjoyed over a shorter period of time. Perhaps one of the main reasons why such breaks are becoming more accessible are the discount airlines such as Aerlingus (http://www.aerlingus.com ) offering cheap return flights to popular sunshine resorts such as Ibiza, Gran Canaria and Cyprus. Combining these discount flights with the abundance of hotel and accommodation deals that are on offer means that beach breaks are becoming increasingly competitive. Overall, taking 2-3 days to top up your tan is becoming easier to do for the UK traveller and the appeal of being on a beach in an exotic location a matter of hours after leaving your work is strong – just don’t always leave it to the last minute to book – you will have a lot more to talk about with your hairdresser as a result!
  • 21. Getting The Right Camping Equipment Having the right camping equipment will make your outdoor experience safer and more fun. The more often you camp, the more you may want to invest in nicer equipment and supplies. Some of these items will make your camping trip more convenient and more comfortable. Shop on the Internet and at local sporting goods stores to research prices and available pieces. Shelter Tents are the traditional means of sheltering from the environment when camping. There are many styles available with various features. Your budget and needs will determine which one is right for you. Tents can range from $100 to more than $500. Use of tarps and padding can help with waterproofing and comfort. Sleeping Sleeping bags are a minimum requirement for keeping warm and comfortable while sleeping. However there are other sleeping options and accessories that can make sleeping more comfortable. Quality sleeping bags start at approximately $50.00 and can go up depending on features. Adding a sleeping mat and sleeping pillow that are waterproof can also enhance comfort. Cooking Campfire cooking can be a fun way to eat meals but if you want a bit more flexibility there are many tools available. Hibachi style portable grills can give you a means of grilling meats, heating sauces, and vegetables without having to build a fire on the ground. Gas powered portable stoves are also available and can range from $50 to $200. These are affordable ways to make cooking more convenient and give you more options. Coolers are useful to keep perishable items from spoiling. There are also mini refrigerators available. Safety Survival and first aid kits are essential supplies for every camper. They can help save lives and tend to minor ailments. Ensure you always have a fully stocked survival and first aid kit available. These should include items for bandaging, pain relief, insect bites and topical antibiotics. Survival kits should include items for warmth, light, food and water. You can purchase pre-made kits or make a checklist and purchase individual items. Fun Camping guides and books are useful to bring to help identify wildlife and to give tips while outdoors. They can also include recipes and ideas for fun. Kayaks can be a fun way to enjoy the water and many are available in inflatable models, making them lightweight. Binoculars can help look for wildlife and nature. Toys like Frisbees and footballs can provide entertainment while outdoors. After deciding where you will camp, make a list of activities you want to engage in. Then, compile a checklist of all supplies and gear needed to ensure you will have a safe and fun trip. Make sure to go through the list so nothing is missed. This will ensure you have everything needed for an enjoyable camping vacation.
  • 22. Selecting The Destination For Boat Travel Once you have decided that you would be taking a holiday on a cruise, sailing through small cities and ports, your next step would be to decide on which cruise you should opt for. One is spoilt for choice with the luxurious spread of boat trips that one can choose from. Knowing about a few simple trends and measures, could help you choose that perfect ship which would be ideal in every respect for you and make your journey a memorable one. Decide on the time span of your boat travel. Do not plan a long voyage if you have little time available on hand. Visiting one or two ports over a period of three to four days could be cheap. Fellow passengers on such cruises are likely to be youthful, partying kinds. Short, week-long cruises are more popular, and comparatively cheaper, they usually visit more ports of call. However, seven days, can pass by soon and you might still have fellow passengers who are party animals. Cruises which are longer than a week visit more ports of call and in locations more exotic, like the Mediterranean or the South of America, though your co-passengers are likely to be more restrained. The cost and time involved in such cruises hamper more people from opting for them. While making your decision, do keep in mind your budget. You have a large range to choose from and you are sure to find one that fits your choice. Web sites and travel agents could offer you great deals at low prices. Be aware of port, cruise cancellation insurance, and airfare charges and whether your cruise is charging you for them or not. Apart from time and money there are other factors which you should consider before selecting on something suitable. Time of travel, ability to carry out your hobbies, and the number of ports you want to visit, should also be considering factors. There is nothing as frustrating as being stuck at sea, while you are sailing past through beautiful islands. Some places are easily accessible and sometimes more popular during the winter; Mexico, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal, are such destinations; but visitors should be careful of hurricane seasons. Again European and Alaskan cruises are usually not available during winter months. Incase you have other preferences apart from that of money, time and itinerary; consider them before you zero in on a particular choice. Though differences between different vessels have been lessened over time, there are a few which are better and much more luxurious than the others. Evaluations of cruise ships are available online as well as in travel journals, ask your travel agent or talk to friends. As a conclusion, remember that, scouring the available options for your next cruise however is not the time to give up what you actually want; be it an opportunity to watch whales in Alaska or have your hair braiding done in Nassau.
  • 23. Guide To A Fishing Vacation Going on a fishing vacation can bring relaxation to you and your family. Not only will you be able to enjoy nature and spend time with those you love, you will also be able to get a free meal. There are a number of different vacations that you can participate in. While some vacations can last a weekend, others can come in the form of extended tours that can last for days or weeks. There are a large number of remote areas around the world where you can fish in an environment that is serene and comfortable. When you are planning a fishing vacation, you will first want to decide what type of fishing you're interested in. Fishing can basically be divided into two types, and this is saltwater or freshwater. You will also want to decide what type of fish you're interested in. There are many species of fish, and you may want salmon, trout, or mackerel. To get the the right fish, you will need to make sure you choose a location that contains the fish you're interested in. Another thing you will want to look at is your budget. The options will range from local lakes or ponds to luxury hotels where you can fish while staying at a resort. Your vacation can be simple, or it can be complex. The choice is up to you. Some people are independent and will want to travel alone, while others will want to use a travel agent. Fishing vacations can be taken during any season of the year. Depending on where you travel during the winter, you may be required to cut a hole in the ice if you wish to fish. If you plan your vacation carefully, you can have the same experience that is achieved by expert fishermen. One thing that you will need to acquire is a fishing license. All the other equipment can be rented, and this is generally a much cheaper option to use instead of purchasing it directly from the manufacturer. Some of the equipment you will need for your trip is a reel, rod, and a boat. A life jacket and first aid kit should be purchased as well. Fishing vacations are excellent for families. They can give you time to spend together that won't be distracted by the many things you will have to deal with on standard vacations. You don't have to be a master fisherman to enjoy your vacation. There have been cases were novices were much more successful than seasoned professionals. Even if you don't like fish, or are a vegetarian, you can still practice catch and release methods for handling fish. While there are many packaged fishing tours available in the United States, they can also be found in foreign countries. With the number of available options, some people mave have a hard time deciding where they want to fish. One of the best advantages of taking an organized tour is that everything you need is readily available. Depending on how far you want to travel from home, you may need to take a plane, and carrying around the necessary equipment will be difficult. At the same time, those who are independent may not want to be stuck in organized tours, and will enjoy planning the entire trip themselves.
  • 24. Recreation How to Book a Cruise for Less So you’ve always wanted to take a dream cruise vacation. When it comes time to book your cruise, believe it or not, don’t be too hasty. Many cruise lines receive unexpected cancellations at the last minute, and are eager to fill the empty slots. • 25. How To Pack For A Luxury World Cruise With the popularity of luxury world cruises growing, there are more and more people asking for advice once they have decided that a world cruise is the vacation of their dreams. Keeping in mind that most world cruises last between 100 and 250 days, there are a lot of things to think about. One of the most often asked question is, “What should we pack?” Here are a few helpful suggestions, and though some may seem obvious, it is important to have a running list so that you don’t get confused about what you have or have not packed. After all, you will be gone the greater part of a year, so be prepared! Clothing Travelers interested in a luxury world cruise should not pack a new outfit for each day. To make your wardrobe appear fresh without overdoing it, pack about ten tops and bottoms that can be mixed and matched, and bring accent pieces such as scarves and attention getting shoes to spice up your looks. You will be doing a lot of walking, so bring at least 20 pairs of socks. You should also bring about five pairs of shoes, three which are comfortable and made for walking. Chances are your boat will have a swimming pool, so make sure you include your swimsuit. A windbreaker and a coat are a must, so that no matter how mild or cold the weather is, you are prepared. You should also be prepared for formal nights, and bring about three formal outfits. Electronics You may not think of bringing electronics on your luxury world cruise, but there are some items that you may need in order to continue the lifestyle you are used to at home. First and foremost, bring a power strip and/or outlet converter. Check to make sure your ship is equipped with USA outlets, and if not bring the appropriate converters. Chances are there will only be one or two outlets in your cabin, and this will help you tremendously. Of course, bring your camera. If you are using a film camera, be sure to bring lots and lots of extra film. If you are using digital, you should bring an extra memory card and a charging cable. You may also want to bring a laptop so that you can download your pictures instantly. A laptop will also help you keep in touch with family and privately access the internet in your cabin. You might also pack an alarm clock to ensure that you don’t miss any early morning activities. Paper Work There are certain important documents you will want to bring on your luxury world cruise. The first and most often forgotten is your passport. Although it is true that most cruise ships will not require you to bring your passport, when going on a world cruise you should definitely bring one. Chances are you will be visiting upwards of twenty countries, and should something happen to prevent you from reembarking the ship, that passport is the only item that stands between you and being stranded.
  • 26. You should keep several copies of your passport and ID. You should have one extra copy in a completely random place on your body every time you leave the ship (such as your shoe), one in your cabin safe, one in your luggage and one checked with the ship’s purser. It is also a good idea to bring your insurance card, and a prescription card if you have one. There will be an onboard doctor, but to avoid any extremely expensive charges made because of health care, present your card when you are treated. It is a good idea to keep several copies of these as well. Packing the right clothing, electronics and paperwork can be vital to the success of your luxury world cruise. Arriving prepared will give you peace of mind. Packing right will also save you money in the long run, so that you do not have to purchase overpriced items at the onboard boutique or abroad, unless you want to. A luxury world cruise is the adventure of a lifetime, and now that you know what to pack, you can look forward to embarking on an adventure full of excitement and empty of worry. The Simple Truth About Luxury Cruising Cruising has become a top recreational choice for many people, however, if you are hesitating to take a cruise because of some common myths, then you are possibly missing out on a great vacation experience. Let’s go over each myth and see what the real deal is. Only old people go on cruises Several years ago, cruises were heavily populated with elderly people, since they always had plenty of time on their hands to take a leisurely cruise for weeks on end. Visions of old ladies with blue hair and countless shuffle board games are not appealing to the younger set. These days, you’ll be happy to know, that most cruise passengers are younger people. The elderly only make up a small percentage of passengers. More people in their teens and 20s are also going on cruises. In fact, you might have a hard time keeping up with all the activities geared towards the younger set. I’ll be forced to do everything on a set schedule It used to be that all meals and activities stuck to a very rigid schedule. Breakfast at 9am, lunch at 12pm, dinner at 6pm, etc. This is mostly a thing of the past. While you’ll find that major meals are still served between certain times, there are a lot of eating alternatives where you can grab a bite to eat or sit down for a nice dinner, without eating in the main dining room. Activities happen at all hours of the day, so if you want to sleep in, there will still be plenty for you to do when you wake up. There’s not enough to do – I’ll be bored stiff It used to be a well known fact that the entertainment on board a cruise ship was pretty pathetic: table tennis, card games, shuffleboard, and reading a good book was about the extent of the good times. Nowadays, there are enough activities to keep even the most energetic person busy around the clock. Dancing, sports, games, physical exercise, swimming, shows, are just a few of the activities available on board the ship.
  • 27. When the ship lands at an exciting destination, you’ll be on your way to having the time of your life, including site seeing and partaking of all the fun things you’ve planned to do while visiting new places and tourist attractions. You see, there’s no reason to put off planning your very own cruise vacation right now. Today’s cruise ships are pretty much floating cities, with all of the attractions and accommodations that any well traveled city would have. In fact, it’ll probably take you 10 fun-packed cruises before you start getting bored. Now that’s a whole bunch of fun. Boat Travel Gets You Traveling When it comes to set sail you will find that there is a lot of fun that that you can have on a boat of luxury. You will find that there are small exotic ports that you can go for and you will be able to choose where you go and when you go. You will want to follow some of the following guidelines, because it can be hard to have the perfect vacation while sailing a boat. First, you will need to decide where your direction of destination is and how long you plan to be gone. For those who have a steady life, voyage is something that you may not want to do, but there are many ports and islands off the coast of America that you can travel to and still be able to enjoy the customs that you are use to. You will find that there are many locations that you can to as well. You can go up or down the ocean coast and still have a great time. You will find that there are places in South America and other close islands so that you can get that exotic vacation. Where you sail, you will be able to determine depending on the time period that you have. You may want to do a thorough research of the destination before you set sail. Make sure that you will have plenty of time to get there and back. You don’t want to be lost at sea for a few days or hours and feel the pressure of having to be back at work in a few hours. The least of your worries should be your timing. When you go to sail, you will want to make sure that you are in the port for at least three or four days so that you can really enjoy your vacation. Also, you will want to think about the money that you will need. You will find that there are some places and ports that can be very expensive. When it comes to sailing, you may find it more comfortable if you charter a cruise. You will find that when it comes to cancellation of the cruise, you will be able to get flown back to the states and that money is included in your trip. This is not something that you will get when you sail your own boat. You will find that there are plenty of benefits that you can get from charters, especially if you are not a professional sailor.
  • 28. You will be able to have all the comforts of home when you take the time to budget for a cruise. Cruises not only make great vacations, but they are also great to do when you are trying to save your marriage or regenerate the love and romance. You will find plenty of opportunity when it comes to vacationing with a boat. You will be able to go places and see things that you could never imagine. You will find that there are plenty of things that you can do to feel safe and secure while on the open seas. The Best Time To Go On Diving Holidays If you are not familiar with the whereabouts of the Red Sea, you can pretty well say it runs down the eastern border of Egypt from the Sinai Peninsula on the Israel border, where you will find the Taba Hotels complex, down through Sharm el Sheikh, onto Hurghada, and then Soma Bay and beyond. These are the names of the best known hotel and resort areas. It is a part of the world that has been a must for scuba divers almost for ever. The question here is, when is the best time to visit, because Egypt and the Red Sea have classically been a winter sun destination for European Holidaymakers. I have visited Taba, and Sharm in the early Spring, when the weather was pleasant, but it became very cool in the evenings, and Soma Bay in July when the temperature was consistently 45 degrees, but with no humidity, and a good breeze, it was more than bearable!! The main difference between the two visits was the fact that at Taba it was relatively busy, Sharm was packed, whereas at Soma Bay there was only 10% occupancy in a superb hotel called Les Residence des Cascades!! Having said that there is increasing evidence that tour operators are now concentrating on the Egypt Red Sea area in the summer months, believing it to be more profitable for them than Spain or the Meditteranean in Euroland. This means prices that were low in the summer months are now rising with demand. School holidays are now expensive, but the season as in Europe now runs from May until October. This means the Tour Operators have their capacity geared to these months. In other words if you can travel in September, when incidentally the water is warm for scuba divers, or May and June, then you may well find some real bargains. One piece of advice is don’t book early. If you can wait until late April or early May before booking June, it is likely the Operators will not have sold their allotment of beds, so prices can tumble dramatically. So when is the best time to go to the Red Sea, the answer is probably June.
  • 29. What to Pack on Ski Vacations If you will be traveling for a ski vacation, it is often difficult to know what to pack. You may not even have a problem knowing what to pack, but instead have a problem figuring how to get everything that you need from your home to your destination. Skis do not easily fit into suitcases, and if you are flying, this presents a huge problem. Start by knowing what is available at your destination. Is there a rental shop? How much are the rental fees for skis, boots, and poles. If it is reasonable, and you don’t mind skiing with rented equipment, this is a viable option – and it makes packing and traveling much easier. If you don’t care for rented equipment, there is another option. Find out if there are any ski shops in the area. There usually are. Get prices on skis, poles, and boots, and then ask if they buy used equipment. If they don’t, ask if there is anyone near by that does purchase used equipment. Call that place to get an estimate on how much you could get for barely used ski equipment. Figure the difference in the money you will spend on the ski equipment, and the money you will get for the used equipment when you are finished with it. If it isn’t much more than what it would cost you to rent the equipment, go for it! Ski suits, ski jackets, and sweaters can be very bulky, and hard to pack. These items will take up a lot of room in your suitcase, and leave less room for other clothing and essentials. If you are trying to pack for a two week ski vacation, it will be impossible to fit everything you need into one suitcase. There is a way to solve this. Call the lodge or resort where you will be staying. Tell them that you need to ship a package, for yourself, to them, and that you need that package to be there when you arrive. Ask them if they will hold it for you at the desk. In most cases, they will. Next, get a box, put all of your ski suits, your ski jacket, and any other bulky items in the box, and ship it to yourself, in care of the lodge or resort. Shipping can be overnight, two day, or three day depending on how far it must travel. Depending on how much the box weighs, you will usually pay less than fifty dollars to ship a package in the continental United States….which is a lot less than you would pay an airline for extra baggage!
  • 30. Choosing The Best Bass Fishing Lures Bass fishing ures come in many different varieties. There are more types of lures for bass fishing than for just about any other kind of freshwater fish. With so many different shapes, styles, sizes, and colors you'd have a hard time trying out all of the options. It would take a long time to use every type of bass fishing lure. While there are many different types, some tend to be better than others. Most bass enthusiasts pick their favorites and stick with them. Crank Bait Lures Crank bait is one of the most popular lures among bass fishers. This type of lure got its name because of how it operates. They are connected to the line and then cranked back into the fishing boat. There is a vast array of different options when it comes to selecting crank baits. Some crank baits will float atop of the water when the fisher is no longer winding the reel. Others will sink to the very bottom when the reel isn't being turned. Still another type stays suspended in the water, not moving from the depth it was when the user stopped cranking. Deep Water Crank Bait Lures Some of these types of lures are intended for deeper water fishing and can go about 15 feet down below the water's surface. Medium Depth Crank Bait Lures When fishing in water that is about 10 feet deep, you are better off using a different type of crank bait. The best choice for this depth has a medium lip that will hit bottom once it reaches a depth of approximately ten feet. Shallow Water Crank Bait Lure When fishing in water that is less than five feet deep, it is best go with a different option. For this depth, fishers should use a lure designed for shallow water. This type has a small lip and will make hit bottom at depths of approximately around 3 to 5 feet. Top Water Bait Lure Still another frequently use type of bass fishing lure is top water bait. This type of bait gets its name because it floats all the time. They float even when they are being cranked in. A disadvantage of this type of bait is that it is noisy. Noise is not ever desirable when bass fishing. It is particularly problematic when trying to lure fish at dawn or in rough waters under cloudy skies. Spinner Bait Lures Spinner bait is yet another lure option for bass fishing enthusiasts. This style of lure is often used in bass fishing This type of bait is actually tied directly to the fishing line or attached to a tiny swivel. Spinner bait lures are bright and shiny, typically with blades that are either gold or silver. However, they are often painted in different colors. Some enthusiasts prefer metallic spinner bait lures, and others prefer painted ones.
  • 31. The blades of spinner bait area available in many different shapes. The best bass fishers know that sometimes the fish have to be outsmarted. The different shapes are created in the hopes of imitating the different fish found in the waters. The idea behind spinner bait is to trick the bass into making an impulsive strike. Another unique characteristic of bass fishing lures is that they are used with rubber skirts. The rubber skirts travel alongside the lure and help attract more bass, theoretically. These rubber skirts are interchangeable, which allows for versatility. Many who enjoy bass fishing feel there is an advantage to using a variety of different colored skirts. They enjoy being able to remove one color skirt and replace it with another in the hopes that doing so will draw more fish. With so many different options, bass fishing lures can get very complicated for anyone who doesn't understand the dynamics of the sport of bass fishing. Beginner Fly Fishing Basics Everyone knows the basics of fishing. There’s a rod, reel, fishing line, hook, bait; you cast the line, wait for a bite, and reel in your dinner. Experienced fishermen know there is more to it than that, but for most of us that description appropriately sums it up. However, there are many types of fishing, such as salt water and fresh water, and perhaps the most artful of them all, fly fishing. You have probably heard of fly fishing - it has been in recorded history for nearly 2000 years - and you probably know that it does not involve fishing for flies, but if that is all you know then a primer in fly fishing basics can bring you up to speed. Unlike other forms of fishing, fly fishing does not typically use any kind of organic bait, live or dead. Instead, fly fisherman use artificial flies – ribbon, string, hair, feathers – as a lure to attract fish. The artificial flies are attached to the hook and line, and the fisherman attracts fish with movement that makes the fly look like an insect that is moving on or above the surface of the water. The nature of that artificial bait is the first and most important element to understand when examining fly fishing basics. Another aspect of fly fishing basics, an aspect that separates fly fishing from most other variations of fishing, is the way the line is cast. Other kinds of fishing rely on casting a line and attracting fish with the bait, but fly fishing requires a much more skillful method of luring the fish. A fly fisherman casts his lure toward the fish and uses rhythmic movements to make the lure fly above the water, skimming the top, or even diving under the surface, all in an effort to replicate the movements of an insect that might entice a hungry fish to strike. If you understand fly fishing basics, you might wonder what you need to give it a try. Fly fishermen usually use rods that are longer and lighter than typical fishing rods. The reel used is typically quite simple because it is generally used only to retrieve the hook and lure – and hopefully a fish! Before casting, fly fishermen usually create slack in the line by pulling some from the reel.
  • 33. That slack allows the lure to fly freely to the targeted area. Choosing the proper lure is another aspect of fly fishing basics that one should understand before setting off to cast their line. Fly fishing implies that the lure is intended to resemble the characteristics of flies, but fly fishing is hardly limited to that. The sport has evolved in recent years, and many fly fishermen now choose lures and casting techniques that mimic the primary prey of the fish they are attempting to catch. However, specific baits and the eating characteristics of various species of fish are beyond the realm of fly fishing basics. An understanding of fly fishing basics is not enough to prepare one to head off to the nearest lake or stream. If you are interested in expanding your knowledge, or trying fly fishing yourself, spend some time reading on the subject, and if possible seek the tutelage of an experienced fly fisherman. Only then can you begin to understand more than fly fishing basics, such as specific recommendations on rods, reels, line weight, lures, and most important, the great places where fly fisherman must make a pilgrimage.
