Spain
History
• Spain originally inhabited by clets,lberians,and
basques they became a part of the roman empire in
206 B.C.
• Aragon and castlile were the most important Spanish
states from the 12th to the 15th century consolidated
by the marriage of Ferdinand the 3and Isabella the
first in 1469.
Geography
• The latitude and longitude of Spain is 40.43
degrees north and 3.7 degrees west.
• Two rivers in Spain are called Douro river and
Ebro river.
• A mountain in Spain is called the Mulhacen
mountain.
Major Attractions
• Sagrada Familia
• Royal palace of madria
• Casa batllo
Populations
• 47.27 million people live in the country Spain.
Religion
• A major religion in Spain is the Roman Catholic
Government
• The government in Spain is called the
Parliamentary Monarchy.
Spain’s Flag
• This is Spain’s flag, they only have one flag.
• The pillars of Hercules, short-toed eagle
(national bird), red carnation (national
flower).
Capital
• Spain’s capital is Madrid and two other large
cities are Barcelona and Valencia.
Tradition
• One of Spain’s major Tradition’s is Bullfighting.
If you ever go to Spain you have to watch at
least one bullfight.
Famous Things they Grow
• Spain grows:
• Grapefruits
• Lemons
• Limes
• chorizo ( a type sausage)
• vegetables (tomatoes, peas, and asparagus)
• chicken and/or rabbit
• long-grained rice.
Facts about Spain
• In Spain they drive on the right-hand side of
the road.
• It is believed that modern humans first arrived
in Spain around 32000 years ago.
• Spain produces a large amount of renewable
energy, including wind power and solar power.
Sports
• Football (soccer) is the most popular sport in
Spain.
• The 1992 Summer Olympic Games were held
in Barcelona.
National Holiday
• Spain observes its national day on 12th
October, because significantly ,on the same
date in 1492 Columbus set foot in the
Americas .
Spain Animals
• The Mediterranean or Iberian lynx is almost extinct, there are
only a few surviving mammals left in the south of Spain and
Portugal. The lynx is the most endangered cat in the world.
• Other protected animals are the Iberian wild boar, the Iberian
fox, the Iberian wolves and the Cantabrian brown bear.
• The short-toed eagle is Spain's national bird. The region of
Andalusia is home to the Andalusian horses which are known
for their speed and strength.
Migration
• Emigration of Spanish workers to the more industrialized
countries of Western Europe, notably to the Federal
Republic of Germany (FRG),
• More than 1.7 million Spanish citizens were residing
outside the country in 1987. In 2001 there were
1,109,060 foreign residents in Spain, 2.5% of total
population. There were 234,937 Moroccans, 84,699
Ecuadorians, 80,183 British, 62,506 Germans, 48,710
Colombians, 44,798 French, and 42,634 Portuguese.
Transportation
• Spain had an estimated 156 airports and airfields in
2004.
• In 2005 a total of 95 had paved runways, and there were
also eight heliports.
• The state owned Iberia Air Lines has connections with 50
countries and 89 cities in Europe, Africa, Asia including
the Middle East and the Western Hemisphere.
Economy
• The Trade freedom in Spain is 88 percent.
• The Investment freedom in Spain is 85
percent.
• The Financial freedom is 70 percent.
Science & Technology
• The Council for Scientific Research in Spain
was founded in 1940.
• The Royal Academy of Exact, Physical, and
Natural Sciences were founded in 1916.
• Spain has 32 universities, colleges, and
polytechnics offering classes in basic sciences.
