SECOND THESALONIANS
2nd Thessalonians
1This letter is from Paul, Silas, and
Timothy. It is written to the church in
Thessalonica, you who belong to God
our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2May God our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
3Dear brothers and sisters, we always
thank God for you, as is right, for we are
thankful that your faith is flourishing and
you are all growing in love for each
other.
4We proudly tell God's other churches
about your endurance and faithfulness
in all the persecutions and hardships
you are suffering.
5But God will use this persecution to
show his justice. For he will make you
worthy of his Kingdom, for which you
are suffering,
6and in his justice he will punish those
who persecute you.
7And God will provide rest for you who
are being persecuted and also for us
when the Lord Jesus appears from
heaven. He will come with his mighty
angels,
8in flaming fire, bringing judgment on
those who don't know God and on those
who refuse to obey the Good News of
our Lord Jesus.
9They will be punished with everlasting
destruction, forever separated from the
Lord and from his glorious power
10when he comes to receive glory and
praise from his holy people. And you will
be among those praising him on that
day, for you believed what we testified
about him.
11And so we keep on praying for you,
that our God will make you worthy of the
life to which he called you. And we pray
that God, by his power, will fulfill all your
good intentions and faithful deeds.
12Then everyone will give honor to the
name of our Lord Jesus because of you,
and you will be honored along with him.
This is all made possible because of the
undeserved favor of our God and Lord,
Jesus Christ.
2And now, brothers and sisters, let us
tell you about the coming again of our
Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be
gathered together to meet him.
2Please don't be so easily shaken and
troubled by those who say that the day
of the Lord has already begun. Even if
they claim to have had a vision, a
revelation, or a letter supposedly from
us, don't believe them.
3Don't be fooled by what they say. For
that day will not come until there is a
great rebellion against God and the man
of lawlessness is revealed--the one who
brings destruction.
4He will exalt himself and defy every god
there is and tear down every object of
adoration and worship. He will position
himself in the temple of God, claiming
that he himself is God.
5Don't you remember that I told you this
when I was with you?
6And you know what is holding him back,
for he can be revealed only when his
time comes.
7For this lawlessness is already at work
secretly, and it will remain secret until
the one who is holding it back steps out
of the way.
8Then the man of lawlessness will be
revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will
consume with the breath of his mouth
and destroy by the splendor of his
coming.
9This evil man will come to do the work
of Satan with counterfeit power and
signs and miracles.
10He will use every kind of wicked
deception to fool those who are on their
way to destruction because they refuse
to believe the truth that would save them.
11So God will send great deception upon
them, and they will believe all these lies.
12Then they will be condemned for not
believing the truth and for enjoying the
evil they do.
13As for us, we always thank God for
you, dear brothers and sisters loved by
the Lord. We are thankful that God
chose you to be among the first to
experience salvation, a salvation that
came through the Spirit who makes you
holy and by your belief in the truth.
14He called you to salvation when we
told you the Good News; now you can
share in the glory of our Lord Jesus
Christ.
15With all these things in mind, dear
brothers and sisters, stand firm and
keep a strong grip on everything we
taught you both in person and by letter.
16May our Lord Jesus Christ and God
our Father, who loved us and in his
special favor gave us everlasting
comfort and good hope,
17comfort your hearts and give you
SECOND THESALONIANS
strength in every good thing you do and
say.
3Finally, dear brothers and sisters, I
ask you to pray for us. Pray first that the
Lord's message will spread rapidly and
be honored wherever it goes, just as
when it came to you.
2Pray, too, that we will be saved from
wicked and evil people, for not everyone
believes in the Lord.
3But the Lord is faithful; he will make you
strong and guard you from the evil one.
4And we are confident in the Lord that
you are practicing the things we
commanded you, and that you always
will.
5May the Lord bring you into an ever
deeper understanding of the love of God
and the endurance that comes from
Christ.
6And now, dear brothers and sisters, we
give you this command with the
authority of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay
away from any Christian who lives in
idleness and doesn't follow the tradition
of hard work we gave you.
7For you know that you ought to follow
our example. We were never lazy when
we were with you.
8We never accepted food from anyone
without paying for it. We worked hard
day and night so that we would not be a
burden to any of you.
9It wasn't that we didn't have the right to
ask you to feed us, but we wanted to
give you an example to follow.
10Even while we were with you, we gave
you this rule: "Whoever does not work
should not eat."
11Yet we hear that some of you are
living idle lives, refusing to work and
wasting time meddling in other people's
business.
12In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
we appeal to such people--no, we
command them: Settle down and get to
work. Earn your own living.
13And I say to the rest of you, dear
brothers and sisters, never get tired of
doing good.
14Take note of those who refuse to obey
what we say in this letter. Stay away
from them so they will be ashamed.
15Don't think of them as enemies, but
speak to them as you would to a
Christian who needs to be warned.
16May the Lord of peace himself always
give you his peace no matter what
happens. The Lord be with you all.
17Now here is my greeting, which I write
with my own hand--PAUL. I do this at
the end of all my letters to prove that
they really are from me.
18May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all.
