GUIDELINES
Under the OSH Act, employers must provide a safe working
environment for their workers. Keep in compliance with the
Occupational Safety and health Administration’s (OSHA)
requirements. While all industries have their specific
requirements, here are some general employer responsibilities:
1. Workplace conditions must conform under OSHA
Standards.
2. Employees must have access to use safe tools and
equipment and the necessary means to maintain them.
3. Warn employees of hazards via color codes, posters, labels
and signs.
4. Start and update operating procedures for safety and
health.
5. Provide Outreach Training Programs like online OSHA
course in a language and vocabulary that workers can
understand.
6. OSHA states that “Employers with hazardous chemicals in
the workplace must develop and implement a written
hazard communication program and train employees on
the hazards they are exposed to and proper precautions
(and a copy of safety data sheets must be readily
available).” OSHA provides more information about Hazard
Communication here.

7. Inform employees of their rights and responsibilities by
posting on a prominent location, the OSHA Poster or state
equivalent.
8. Report to the local OSHA office any fatalities or
hospitalizations of three or more workers. Said reports
must be conveyed within 8 hours.
9. Unless the business has only 10 employees or less or in
low-hazard industries, work-related injuries and illnesses
must be recorded. Current and former employees must
have access to OSHA Form 300 and OSHA Form 300A.
10. Employee medical records must be accesses by
employees and their representatives.
11. OSHA adds to “Provide to the OSHA compliance
officer the names of authorized employee representatives
who may be asked to accompany the compliance officer
during an inspection.”
12. Employers may not discriminate employees who
exercise their OSHA rights.
13. OSHA citations, if any, must be posted until such is
corrected or for three working days.
14. OSHA citations must be corrected and submitted.
15. Employers must adopt a Injury and Illness Prevention
Program which includes management leadership, worker
participation, hazard identification, hazard prevention and
control, education and training, and program evaluation
and improvement.
