2. The United Nations is all around you. We work towards
the creation and implemention of international standards
that enable the world to develop as one. Collectively, we
set the benchmark.
Human Rights are one such standard, they profoundly
shape how we treat one another. But what some take for
granted, others can only dream of.
Poverty, injustice and war all serve to prevent a person from
living a life of their choosing. This erodes a most precious
resource: our humanity.
Diversity is our strength, we each carry an answer. Only
by turning to each other, can we prevail over the grave
challenges we face.

16. The MDGs have no precedent. Never before have so many
heads of State committed to such a comprehensive
development agenda.
In addressing human conditions of existence, such as poverty
and gender equality, the MDGs focus on fundamentally
changing the everyday realities on the ground.
The MDGs are concrete, measurable and attainable goals
with specific targets within a framework of accountability.
The MDGs emphasize the roles of both rich and poor countries
in facing challenges together, as a global community.
21. “Why are the MDGs important
to you and your family?”
Every year,
we ask the world
a question “What is your community, city or
country doing to achieve the MDGs?”
This year,
we have 3 “How can the international
community better work together
to achieve the MDGs?”
