5. This is probably one of the most famous pictures of President Washington. This painting shows the crossing of the Delaware that helped the Americans win the Revolutionary War.

6. This picture shows President Washington and his wife, Martha. George and Martha never had any children together, but they raised Martha’s two children, Jackie and Patsy, from a previous marriage.

7. This picture depicts President Washington on one of his horses in front of his house at Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon is still a beautiful house that is now a museum of President Washington and his family.

8. This portrait is one of the most recognizable of President Washington. It was said that President Washington was a very likeable person; however, from his scowl, many people think otherwise. The reason for his grimace, however, is that his teeth were dentures made out of a variety of materials including wood, hippopotamus ivory, elephant ivory, etc.

10. Thomas Jefferson was considered to be the founding father of the Declaration of Independence. The story goes that Jefferson stayed up until all hours of the night penning the important document.

11. President Jefferson was our third president. He was in office from March 4, 1801 – March 4, 1809, and his Vice Presidents were Aaron Burr and George Clinton.

12. This is Monticello. It was the home of Jefferson during his life and after his death, was sold at auction to settle Jefferson’s extreme debt. Jefferson designed Monticello as well as the nearby University of Virginia. Monticello housed many of Jefferson’s inventions such as automatic doors and swivel chairs.

13. This is Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson. She and Jefferson got married when he was twenty-nine and she was twenty-three. They had six children together.
