2. The Digestive System Process that allows food and drinks to break down into smaller parts. Allows the body to get energy and nutrients. Begins in the mouth by chewing and swallowing food. Process called digestion.

3. Mouth Digestion starts in the mouth. Makes food softer and easier to eat.

4. Esophagus Moves food from the back of your throat to your stomach. Has muscles that move food down your throat.

5. Large Intestine Food that cannot be used in the body gets passed through the large intestine. About 1.5 m long

6. Small Intestine A long tube that helps extract minerals and vitamins from the food we eat. Small in width but not in length.

7. Stomach Performs three functions. Stores food, breaks the food down to a liquid. Slowly passes the liquid to small intestine.

8. Pancreas Required to break down carbohydrates, fats and protein. Located behind the stomach.

9. Gallbladder Located near the liver Stores Bile, a liquid that is produced by liver.
