Close to 70 employees from Jewish Child & Family Services in Chicago volunteered at 8 locations in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Day of Service on January 16, 2012.
7. Rolinda from Foster Care, and Carolyn and Robin from Response, help freshen up the Cat area. Heartland, a no-kill shelter, cares for over 100 cats at a time. Fortunately, they oversee close to 80 adoptions a month. Don’t you need a loving companion?
8. Shhh…Melanie was not supposed to put her fingers in the cage, but DiDi, a brand new puppy resident, was just to cute to resist.
11. Carolyn makes friends with Lively, who lives up to her name! Training and manner classes are part of the volunteer work at Heartland, to prepare pets for adoption.
16. “ I usually work with youth, at the Therapeutic Day School. I loved hearing the seniors’ stories of their lives. It was great to give back to the community.”

18. “ I’m amazed at the work that is being done (at the Chesed Warehouse) and the generosity of the community in so many donations. The commitment to service and dignity of others connected this experience to the legacy of Dr. King.”

21. Julia from Response, Roberta from Respite, April from Admin, and Pia from Psych Services, bagged over 200 cookies, baked by youths in JCFS’ Residential Program, for the Night Ministry’s Health Outreach bus.
22. “ I volunteered because I wanted to be a part of making a difference in the lives of others. Knowing that cookies will go to those in need connected this experience to the legacy of Dr. King.”
