Hideyoshi, who took over after Oda Nobunaga's death in 1582, helped transition Japan to a more peaceful era through reforms like the cadastral survey and census while avoiding destruction during conquests. However, Hideyoshi also displayed paranoid behavior like persecuting Sen no Rikyu and Toyotomi Hidetsugu. His costly and unsuccessful invasion of Korea in the 1590s drained resources from both Japan and Korea. After Hideyoshi's death, his regime gave way to the Tokugawa Shogunate within Japan, while Korea suffered painful recovery and Ming China's power declined more rapidly.
