2. What is the CISSP?
• Well known security certification
• By ISC2
• International Information Systems Security Certification
Consortium
• Requirement for many higher-level security jobs
• Gov't work (Noridian, Lockheed)
• Replaces a degree requirement for some jobs
• Good measure of our security knowledge
• Covers 10 domains of security
• Access control, networks, risk management, securing
software, cryptography, security architecture, operations, disaster
recovery, legal/compliance, physical
3. How does one get it?
• There's a fairly large test on all 10 domains
• There's a book and study guides
• There's classes you can pay for
• Work experience
• You need 5+ years full-time work in 2 or more of the CISSP
domains, though some of that can be waived
• If you don't have the work experience yet, you can still take the
test and become a CISSP associate
• You must have the experience within 6 years to upgrade to a
full CISSP
4. Proposal
1. We're running out of things to teach and few attendees are jumping
in to help
2. Both Tim and I are too cheap to pay for the professional classes
Our Miserly Ways Can Be Your Gain!
5. Proposal
1. We'd like to change the class format for a couple of months
2. Anyone who wants to get the CISSP along with us, would need to
pick up the CISSP CBK ($68 on Amazon)
3. We'll make an outline based on the book, including weekly reading
assignments
4. For Saturday classes, one of us studying for the cert will be chosen
to present that week's materials in depth
5. Anyone not wanting to get the cert will still have the outline and
know ahead of time what classes will pertain to what
6. You can still show up and learn the material from us
In fact, it helps us learn faster if people ask questions!
6. Proposal
• Once we've all read, presented, and otherwise lived the CISSP for
months, we should be ready to ace the test
• We'd like to caravan down to Minneapolis to take the test together.
Tim's got a van!
• There will likely be shenanigans
• World's largest ball of twine?
• War driving along the interstate?
• Insert Coin?
