Woman of the Ruins
In the movie Woman of the Ruins which is directed by Mr. Keith Sicat starring Alessandra de Rossi as Maria, Art Acuña as Pasyon, Chanel Latorre as Sabel, Peque Gallaga as Sol and Elizabeth Oropesa. The scene that I saw or I remember was when Sabel thinks highly to Pasyon. Pasyon in their place was so called “heartthrob” or should I say that he was the most good looking guy among those men on their place and every girl wants a piece of him and they badly wants to be his wife. The theory that I was thinking was the Expectancy Violation Theory, it states that when our expectations are violated, we will respond in specific ways. Sabel expected Pasyon as his ideal man. A perfect man who is perfect in all aspects but later realize that it was all just a dream. Because behind those good-looking face and quite aura was there is a devil hiding on it. The next scene was when Sabel is hanging out and looking out for Maria when she came back home after 7 years. She was with her all the time. Sabel took good care of Maria when they were together. The theory that I was thinking to this scene was the Social Penetration Theory, it states that the more we spend with others, the more likely we are to self-disclose more intimate thoughts and details of our life. That happened to Maria and Sabel. After spending time together and helping each other they become close and after so many circumstances they become best of friends and treat each other like sisters. The last scene was why Maria’s quite and such a mysterious girl. People on their place was really curious about her. And also people see here as a beautiful lady but has those sad look on her ayes and mysterious aura. The theory I was thinking on that scene was the Attribution theory, it states that it attempts to explain the causes of people’s behavior and attributing or explaining reasons as to why people behave the way they do. That theory really explains Maria because there is a reason why she was acting so strange and that sad look on her face. The reason of that was her husband Pasyon. That husband of him is hurting her physically and emotionally. She was also violated by her own husband. It had been a really hard situation she has but she didn’t shown any sign of weakness in front of many people. For people not to know the real reason what is going on between her and Pasyon, she acts like a tough woman and act like a mysterious girl that really don’t care at all.
2. Kabisera
In the movie Kabisera that is directed by Mr. Alfonso “Borgy” Torre III starring Joel Torre as Andres, , Art Acuña as Jose, Bernard Palanca as Pablo, JM de Guzman as AJ, Bing Pimentel as Dindin and etc. The scene I remember was when Pablo talks to Andres about Jose being paranoid in all things that happened to him. And he also tells Andres who is the reason behind the accident of his son Aj. His son was been hit and run or I think Aj was beaten up and the one who was behind that was his best buddy Jose. Pablo tell Andres that Jose did that all for him to be able to continue on selling meth. The theory that I was thinking for this scene was the Interpersonal Deception Theory, it states that it attempts to manipulate message so as untruthful, which may cause them apprehension concerning their false being detected. I didn’t know if Jose was really the mastermind of Aj’s accident but it was so evident that they deceived Andres. Pablo and Jose took advantage of the situation so that the two of them gained something. They do that on purpose for Andres to release all his meth that he was hiding. The next scene was when things go wrong to Jose and Pablo tell him to rest. He also tell Jose that Andres and him will be doing all the deals and don’t worry about things. After that incident Andres and Pablo are always together. The theory that I’m thinking to that scene was the Social Penetration Theory, it states that the more we spend with others, the more likely we are to self-disclose more intimate thoughts and details of our life. That theory really explains what had happen to Andres and Pablo. After Andres was convinced by Pablo about Jose and other things he trust Pablo that much that he order him to kill his son-in-law or the husband of his daughter. And they became partners in selling the meth. The last scene was Aj son of Andres is acting weird. He is not the Aj they know anymore. Something changed and they can’t pinpoint what is it. The theory that I was thinking to this scene is the Attribution Theory, it states that it attempts to explain the causes of people’s behavior and attributing or explaining reasons as to why people behave the way they do. Aj behave that way because he was not permitted to study in Manila and he already know about his father selling meth. Aj is also a user of meth. That explain why the sudden change of Aj.
3. Blue Bustamante
In the movie entitled Blue Bustamante that is directed by Mr. Miko Livelo starring Joem Bascon as George Bustamante, Dimples Romana as June Bustamante, Jhiz Deocareza as Kiko Bustamante, Gerard Go as Saito, Mari Koduka as Ayumi and etc. The scene I remember was when George calls his family in the Philippines through telephone. And then he talks to his wife after that he got the chance to talk to his son Kiko. George was very excited upon hearing the voice of his son but it’s just that the boy seems uninterested and didn’t answer him excitedly. The way Kiko talks to his father was so cold. The theory I was thinking on that scene is the Attribution Theory, it states that it attempts to explain the causes of people’s behavior and attributing or explaining reasons as to why people behave the way they do. The theory explains why Kiko behave like that. I remember on that phone call that kiko tell his dad that he didn’t need those toys or anything but he needs his father to be in his side. Kiko needs a father to guide him when his now growing. It is hard for a child not to have a father figure when they are growing. That explains the cold treatment of Kiko towards to his father George. The next scene was when George was fired on his job and it was very hard for him to find a new one. He applies to many companies and he assumes that he was not hired or the company he was applying to was not interested on him. After searching for jobs and giving up, an offer came in. he will be working not an engineer but a stuntman. A stuntman on a show which is entitled “The Force Five” and later on enjoying what he was doing and then fired again on that field. After that incident he discovers that his stalker Ayumi just hide all the letters that the company he applied. He also know that he was hired. The theory I think to that scene was Interpersonal Deception Theory. It states that it attempts to manipulate message so as untruthful, which may cause them apprehension concerning their false being detected. That theory describe the scene because Ayumi manipulates the message that will be bring to George. She hide all the letters that stating George was hired. George was deceive by this Japanese girl whom he thinks as a kind and shy girl. Looks can really be deceiving. The last scene was when George invited Ayumi to eat in a Filipino restaurant with him. Ayumi expects something to George because at their first meeting George was really a gentleman and no girl wouldn’t fall for him especially to those brokenhearted one. Ayumi did expect that George likes her too and George will propose to her but she saw a wedding ring on George hands and she was angry at that moment. The theory that I think of that scene is Expectancy Violation Theory, it states that when our expectations are violated, we will respond in specific ways. Ayumi expects too much that she didn’t bother to ask nor question what really George thought and feel about her. He didn’t ask if George is single or not. Expectations really leads to disappointment.
4. Ganito Kami Noon: Paano Kayo Ngayon?
The movie Ganito Kami Noon: Paano Kayo Ngayon that is directed by Mr. Eddie Romero starring Christoper de Leon as Nicholas or Kolas, Gloria Diaz as Matilde or Diding, Eddie Garcia and etc. Behind every story is another story not yet told. I thought of this movie was just simple and entertaining but when you look deep on what really the story is all about, you’ll be surprise. You just need to look beyond the message. The movie explains who is the true Filipino. The theory that I think that would fit in the movie was the Elaboration Likelihood Model, it states that there are two routes to persuasion— the central route and the peripheral route. The central route uses message elaboration, and can produce a major positive attitude change while the peripheral uses six different messages irrelevant cues to illicit a quick response with a minor shift in attitude. The best explains the central route was the message of the movie and how we achieve what Filipinos want at the end. The peripheral route was the conflict or the factors that has been in the movie. Who is really the true Filipino in there? Is the Spaniards? The one who is born here? The people who fights for their freedom? Or the people who willingly serves our country? Who would it be? This shows that before being Filipino is not that easy. It was hard to determine who among who is the true Filipino. Unlike in this generation it was so simple to figure it out. It takes a long and hard process to achieve what really Filipino wants and desire before. There are so many instances that may affects on how to achieve those dreams. Kolas for me was symbolized as our country Philippines and the other characters are those factors that affects to achieve what we really want. Just like Kolas who happen to stumbled a few times and get stand on his own. He make decision that he didn’t think well. Kolas is not perfect. He is just a human and he can do something wrong that may hurt himself or someone. It is part of life. Just like our country Philippines, whether we cross other path ways and we became slaves to other countries. We really fight for our freedom and made sure that we really are the true Filipino.
