Investigation of          Digipack Releases This Entails The:- Album cover, Single Covers ,Music Videos and music promotion posters
Daft Punk, Discovery 2001Euro House Daft Punk ,Human After All 2005,Euro House Daft Punk, Homework 1997Euro House Alive  ,Release date: Nov 20, 2007  Robot Rock, Release  date :Feb 14, 2005 On this page the album covers originate from 1997 to 2005  and as you can see the presentational techniques used are almost identical except for the colours, especially  between 2001 Discovery and Human After All.  The simplistic approach to the design of the album covers is almost the root to there long standing success and  un-outdated fashion in the genre of House. I have sectioned the mise-on-scene into sections :- Colours used :- The base coloured used by all the CD covers is black ,this represents the simplicity of the combination of notes, beats and lyrics used yet extremely successfully and reiterated across the globe. This also represents the simplistic of the band and its long standing position in the charts and it un-ageing  nature. Also the simplistic of the black as a base colour also implies there is a mysterious nature of Daft punks music and how the band gives no hints of its genre except it overall technological  representative with almost robot like dress. The purple lava like stain on first album of 1997 shows a technological influence as well as a sinister undercurrent of influence and the red symbolises a warning of the influence of there music in the future , this is also emphasised by the presence of the trim of gold to show there music will be revolutionary gold. The second album ‘Discovery ‘ 2001 gain just used colour was used in the title, but again silver was used to show the technological inspiration for the band and the shadowing colours to show the different dimensions to the band an how actually the band has a very diverse target audience whom at first glance you wouldn't expect. The third album , ‘Human After All’ 2005 ,again has intertextuality  in terms of the use of a black background and a reinvented masthead of the bands name in terms of colour. However this time there is absence of any colours except black and white except this approach is subvert as previously there was no other colour used as a base except black. This symbolises a movement in Daft Punks music as previously all album covers symbolised the movement of society into technology where as the white square shell in the background is in fact a black and white telly which explains the mast heads appearance , however it promenade  and attractive to a target audience as the movement had already been made by society into the 20th century. This same theme is used on the next album Robot Rock Released Feb 14, 2005 which again uses the conventional black background and from the Human After All Album the presence of a old TV as a base .This is a very cleverly used technique as it uses intertetuality and also shows the bands confidence in its establishment in the music industry. This is also is a very clever technique as it is a movement from the bands conventions and shows the similarity in nature of tracks on both albums as a almost continuum.  On the other hand ,the final album Alive from 2007 reverts back to the old conventions of a black background ,and again reverted back to the futuristic theme which captures the bands genre of electro house. However the band didn't revert to old themes entirely as due to the success of the previous album they haven't remedied  the bands logo as the target audience can identify the intertextuality of the band and still instils the bands mysterious presence on the charts and in the music world. The electric blue used on the mast head again attracts the attention of the target audience and  again captures the nature of the band as an electric , futuristic and unconventional robotic band. Presentational  Techniques  The intertextuaility in terms of presentational devises run through out as there isn't presence a conventional  album title quiet largely displayed on the cover on any of the albums which suggests the band like the mysterious feel this gives and shows they as there own music is trying to great a new convention or era in which they lead. Also to prevent them being a mainstream band which they are so clearly not as there music presents. On the other hand  stereotypically  the band name is presented large throughout except for 2005 onward, this shows the reliability  the band has on its name and also as the name can be used fruitfully as it again gives nothing away in terms of the music type and this is very effective. Even though the design technique changes it still has presentational intertextuality  using a different symbol in terms of 2005 they used the subvert item of a old television to cause reliability and to act as a symbol of continuity. On the other hand  the Alive album take a combination of previous approaches , but this is the first time a album name is presence , however subvert there is no band name  and there is a black background but a drowning which the combination of the two has never been used previously. Overall I believe this shows the bands feeling and desire never to  let it’s target audience no too much in terms of there is no review labels presence to indicate a target audience and of other preference of which track is best , so prevent following but own decision making on the music and greats a target audience who know what they want and those who will take a risk.
As you can see , the first two posters are replicas for the same gig , however use a different base colour in terms of pastel light pink and the other black. The main feature of both posters is the cartoon like image of the bands identifiable robotic dress, theme and undoubtedly symbol to the general public which really captures the genre of the bands music. The colour used on the helmets of the band  implies the bands diverse spectrum of  it’s target audience and the happy lyrics of the music. Conventionally both posters have present the date(top of the poster)  of the performance, location (bottom of the poster) in a stereotypical way they use a typeface which is similar to a equaliser with music this again gives the futuristic  feel of the band and  confirms the genre of the music. But again the simplistic approach to the  design is again very effective  and informative to the audience. The Daft Punk logo is again present in the left hand side and very large again the opposite colour is used in terms of convention to fit in with the decoration which is typical of the band as they do nothing conventionally. But this is very effective as the band name is the main attracting feature for an audience so the black on the subtle base colour and the red on the black make it really promenade. The jagged imagery in terms of the mast head is very subvert almost like a horror movie or graffiti but again this shows the unconventional devices used to give the audience no inclination of there music genre. These two posters show ,again the bands movement from conventional approaches with every gig. However poster two still has the very distinct presence of the logo of the band , however conventionally as the album in 2001 with the presence of a metallic like colouring of bronze and silver which again implies the electronic , metallic  futuristic nature of the music of the band. However unlike previous posters this has not date present or location , this acts as a teaser to the audience and creates speculation  which the band longs for in all its ventures.  The First poster however , which is that of 2007 as with the previous album cover shows the move away from any conventions, with a reformed mast head .However the changed type face has been kept throughout to create contextualise  this is also upheld in terms of the colours such as green, blue and white which again shows the movement from  convention  which even extends to the reformed cartoon image of the band but there is still kept a identifiable element in terms of the visors on the helmets to create some intertextuailityand identification.
Merchandise, Memorabilia & T-Shirts Merchandise is used  very effectively by Daft Punk , in a wide number of avenues from the very simplistic (e. T-shirts and framed poster) to the very high tech, developed and  directed in terms  of target audience directed. Daft Punk in terms of merchandise aren't unconventional except for a few exceptions in terms of Lego themed items which again highlights the robotic and futuristic.  However , typical the memorabilia it is still effective and purchased. But what made Daft Punks , sale figures go out of the roof was the revolution of media in terms of Daft Hands and Daft Bodies  creating a new symbol for the already popular music which is re-invented and therefore releases a new life into the music sales and therefore  boosts profits into both avenues. So what better , music videos could be produced than that of a target audience it self with a revolutionary but simplistic idea which captures the very heart of Daft Punk. Which caused the revolutionary movement of t-shirts  and other memorabilia.
Influence on  The revolution in technology of hand held cameras, mobile phones and easy uploads on computers and  easy access to the internet to the modern world. It allows ideas to shared worldwide without the need of fancy technology or equipment it has made it simplistic and easy to use with little necessity for complication even though technology is so advanced .Which makes the publication of ideas so welcomed however erratic or extreme. This is also due to the change in societies exceptions of daft behaviour , childish behaviour and  with its aim to get  amusement. These simplistic ideas really show the value of a target audience, this is reflected  in the  view numbers and the target audience desire for simplicity. This then leads to spin offs in terms of the left hand  representation shows the sheer success of the idea  as The Simpsons , as such a high profiled and world wide character  recognition.
Influence on  Daft Bodies   On 23 October 2007, Daft Bodies was unprofessionally published by two teenage girls bored of doing coursework and for a break developed a dance to a popular tune. The revolution of Youtube, caused a spiral of popularity  and due to the new technology of communication  such as Facebook and  Myspace  means word of mouth is the most powerful tool of advertising and it is highly successful as you can see by viewer s ratings. On the 29th August 09, Big Brother  10  published by  Channel 4 as one of the  most powerful revolutionary 20th century reality television  took on the ‘YouTube idea’ boosting its popularity and proving its powerful intelligence and this is reiterated b the over 1,400 imitations including that of the  Big Brother contestants and other civilians and 505,000 related web result on one search engine. This really captures the absolute importance of  the target audience and there ideas as they are usually as in this case the most successful. This is why I am going to create a questionnaire and survey, to utilise this  invaluable tool.

Daft Punk, Discovery 2001Euro House Daft Punk ,Human After All 2005,Euro House Daft Punk, Homework 1997Euro House Alive ,Release date: Nov 20, 2007 Robot Rock, Release date :Feb 14, 2005 On this page the album covers originate from 1997 to 2005 and as you can see the presentational techniques used are almost identical except for the colours, especially between 2001 Discovery and Human After All. The simplistic approach to the design of the album covers is almost the root to there long standing success and un-outdated fashion in the genre of House. I have sectioned the mise-on-scene into sections :- Colours used :- The base coloured used by all the CD covers is black ,this represents the simplicity of the combination of notes, beats and lyrics used yet extremely successfully and reiterated across the globe. This also represents the simplistic of the band and its long standing position in the charts and it un-ageing nature. Also the simplistic of the black as a base colour also implies there is a mysterious nature of Daft punks music and how the band gives no hints of its genre except it overall technological representative with almost robot like dress. The purple lava like stain on first album of 1997 shows a technological influence as well as a sinister undercurrent of influence and the red symbolises a warning of the influence of there music in the future , this is also emphasised by the presence of the trim of gold to show there music will be revolutionary gold. The second album ‘Discovery ‘ 2001 gain just used colour was used in the title, but again silver was used to show the technological inspiration for the band and the shadowing colours to show the different dimensions to the band an how actually the band has a very diverse target audience whom at first glance you wouldn't expect. The third album , ‘Human After All’ 2005 ,again has intertextuality in terms of the use of a black background and a reinvented masthead of the bands name in terms of colour. However this time there is absence of any colours except black and white except this approach is subvert as previously there was no other colour used as a base except black. This symbolises a movement in Daft Punks music as previously all album covers symbolised the movement of society into technology where as the white square shell in the background is in fact a black and white telly which explains the mast heads appearance , however it promenade and attractive to a target audience as the movement had already been made by society into the 20th century. This same theme is used on the next album Robot Rock Released Feb 14, 2005 which again uses the conventional black background and from the Human After All Album the presence of a old TV as a base .This is a very cleverly used technique as it uses intertetuality and also shows the bands confidence in its establishment in the music industry. This is also is a very clever technique as it is a movement from the bands conventions and shows the similarity in nature of tracks on both albums as a almost continuum. On the other hand ,the final album Alive from 2007 reverts back to the old conventions of a black background ,and again reverted back to the futuristic theme which captures the bands genre of electro house. However the band didn't revert to old themes entirely as due to the success of the previous album they haven't remedied the bands logo as the target audience can identify the intertextuality of the band and still instils the bands mysterious presence on the charts and in the music world. The electric blue used on the mast head again attracts the attention of the target audience and again captures the nature of the band as an electric , futuristic and unconventional robotic band. Presentational Techniques The intertextuaility in terms of presentational devises run through out as there isn't presence a conventional album title quiet largely displayed on the cover on any of the albums which suggests the band like the mysterious feel this gives and shows they as there own music is trying to great a new convention or era in which they lead. Also to prevent them being a mainstream band which they are so clearly not as there music presents. On the other hand stereotypically the band name is presented large throughout except for 2005 onward, this shows the reliability the band has on its name and also as the name can be used fruitfully as it again gives nothing away in terms of the music type and this is very effective. Even though the design technique changes it still has presentational intertextuality using a different symbol in terms of 2005 they used the subvert item of a old television to cause reliability and to act as a symbol of continuity. On the other hand the Alive album take a combination of previous approaches , but this is the first time a album name is presence , however subvert there is no band name and there is a black background but a drowning which the combination of the two has never been used previously. Overall I believe this shows the bands feeling and desire never to let it’s target audience no too much in terms of there is no review labels presence to indicate a target audience and of other preference of which track is best , so prevent following but own decision making on the music and greats a target audience who know what they want and those who will take a risk.
  • 3. As you can see , the first two posters are replicas for the same gig , however use a different base colour in terms of pastel light pink and the other black. The main feature of both posters is the cartoon like image of the bands identifiable robotic dress, theme and undoubtedly symbol to the general public which really captures the genre of the bands music. The colour used on the helmets of the band implies the bands diverse spectrum of it’s target audience and the happy lyrics of the music. Conventionally both posters have present the date(top of the poster) of the performance, location (bottom of the poster) in a stereotypical way they use a typeface which is similar to a equaliser with music this again gives the futuristic feel of the band and confirms the genre of the music. But again the simplistic approach to the design is again very effective and informative to the audience. The Daft Punk logo is again present in the left hand side and very large again the opposite colour is used in terms of convention to fit in with the decoration which is typical of the band as they do nothing conventionally. But this is very effective as the band name is the main attracting feature for an audience so the black on the subtle base colour and the red on the black make it really promenade. The jagged imagery in terms of the mast head is very subvert almost like a horror movie or graffiti but again this shows the unconventional devices used to give the audience no inclination of there music genre. These two posters show ,again the bands movement from conventional approaches with every gig. However poster two still has the very distinct presence of the logo of the band , however conventionally as the album in 2001 with the presence of a metallic like colouring of bronze and silver which again implies the electronic , metallic futuristic nature of the music of the band. However unlike previous posters this has not date present or location , this acts as a teaser to the audience and creates speculation which the band longs for in all its ventures. The First poster however , which is that of 2007 as with the previous album cover shows the move away from any conventions, with a reformed mast head .However the changed type face has been kept throughout to create contextualise this is also upheld in terms of the colours such as green, blue and white which again shows the movement from convention which even extends to the reformed cartoon image of the band but there is still kept a identifiable element in terms of the visors on the helmets to create some intertextuailityand identification.
  • 4. Merchandise, Memorabilia & T-Shirts Merchandise is used very effectively by Daft Punk , in a wide number of avenues from the very simplistic (e. T-shirts and framed poster) to the very high tech, developed and directed in terms of target audience directed. Daft Punk in terms of merchandise aren't unconventional except for a few exceptions in terms of Lego themed items which again highlights the robotic and futuristic. However , typical the memorabilia it is still effective and purchased. But what made Daft Punks , sale figures go out of the roof was the revolution of media in terms of Daft Hands and Daft Bodies creating a new symbol for the already popular music which is re-invented and therefore releases a new life into the music sales and therefore boosts profits into both avenues. So what better , music videos could be produced than that of a target audience it self with a revolutionary but simplistic idea which captures the very heart of Daft Punk. Which caused the revolutionary movement of t-shirts and other memorabilia.
  • 5. Influence on The revolution in technology of hand held cameras, mobile phones and easy uploads on computers and easy access to the internet to the modern world. It allows ideas to shared worldwide without the need of fancy technology or equipment it has made it simplistic and easy to use with little necessity for complication even though technology is so advanced .Which makes the publication of ideas so welcomed however erratic or extreme. This is also due to the change in societies exceptions of daft behaviour , childish behaviour and with its aim to get amusement. These simplistic ideas really show the value of a target audience, this is reflected in the view numbers and the target audience desire for simplicity. This then leads to spin offs in terms of the left hand representation shows the sheer success of the idea as The Simpsons , as such a high profiled and world wide character recognition.
  • 6. Influence on Daft Bodies On 23 October 2007, Daft Bodies was unprofessionally published by two teenage girls bored of doing coursework and for a break developed a dance to a popular tune. The revolution of Youtube, caused a spiral of popularity and due to the new technology of communication such as Facebook and Myspace means word of mouth is the most powerful tool of advertising and it is highly successful as you can see by viewer s ratings. On the 29th August 09, Big Brother 10 published by Channel 4 as one of the most powerful revolutionary 20th century reality television took on the ‘YouTube idea’ boosting its popularity and proving its powerful intelligence and this is reiterated b the over 1,400 imitations including that of the Big Brother contestants and other civilians and 505,000 related web result on one search engine. This really captures the absolute importance of the target audience and there ideas as they are usually as in this case the most successful. This is why I am going to create a questionnaire and survey, to utilise this invaluable tool.
