2. While many people believe using eBay is an extremely
tough task, actually it is very simple to use. This
tutorial is to give a walkthrough of how to navigate
eBay and how to buy, sell, get paid, ship, and other
issues. Also, we will look at problems that you may
encounter as a seller of buyer, and what to do in those
situations.
3. Each group will comprise of 3 students and each
student will be responsible for an aspect of the eBay
process. It will be divided into these 3 categories:
Buying
Selling
Payments
4.
5. Buying
Buying is one of the
easiest parts of eBay.
All you need to know
is what you are
looking for and you
are set. Just enter it
in the eBay search
bar. To access the
Ebay site, click
anywhere on the
webpage and follow
along.
6. Buying
Now that you have
searched what you
are looking for, it is
time to look through
the listings to see
exactly what is best
for you.
7. Buying
Now that you have an
auction open, you
can scroll down to
view the specs,
condition, shipping
cost, extras that may
come with your item,
etc.
8.
9. In looking at these auctions strictly on the title, you
would want to buy the second auction. The first
auction was for the Apple iPad wifi 3G 16gb for $632
shipped, but the other auction was for the exact same
item, but came with a case for $582 shipped. That is
why it is important to view all the auctions before
purchasing. Now, without being able to scroll down,
we don’t know if the cheaper one had a crack, bad
condition, etc. This shows the importance of searching
exactly what you are looking for before buying.
10. Buying
If you find the item
you want to bid on,
you may enter your
bid in the max bid
price box and select
place bid. You will be
directed to another
page that will allow
you to confirm your
bid once more before
bidding.
11. There are 3 types of bidding options:
Normal bidding- this is where you place a bid and hope
that you win.
Buy it now (BIN)- this is where you are agreeing to pay
what the seller is stating they will take.
Best Offer- this is where a seller has a BIN auction, but
allows for a best offer. In this case, you never want to use
BIN because the seller has clearly stated they will take less
when allowing this method
Once you understand these processes, then there is only one
thing left to say…….
12.
13.
14. Selling
On the eBay home
page, you will see a
bar across the top of
the page on the right
with a link that says
“sell”. If you have
closed your eBay
page, click on the
website screenshot to
go back to eBay.
15. Selling
Once you click the
“sell” link at the top
of the page, you
should be linked to
this page. Proceed
forward by clicking
“List your item.”
16. Selling
From this page,
simply enter what
item you want to list.
To keep it simple, we
can stick with the
Apple iPad and when
you enter it, a drop
down menu will
appear. Simply select
which model you
have.
17. From here, we will take several screen shots as this
page is particularly long, but every part is equally
important to have a successful auction. Basically, this
page is the “meat” of the auction, so it is important to
make sure you have correct spelling, item is correct,
correct pictures are used and much more!
18. Title
The main part here is
the title. This is what
the buyer is searches
for to find your item.
Use extra words as
you have 45
characters to use. Be
sure to put “New” if
it is new, and if it
comes with a case or
any extras, be sure to
mention as well
19. Pictures &
Description
These two parts are
very important. Add
quality pictures so
the buyer is not
mislead. Accurately
describe the item to
prevent any recourse
and from having to
accept a return on an
item. Up to 12
pictures can be
added and there is
no limit on
description.
20. Price
This is the most
important part…to
you! As mentioned
earlier, there is an
option for bidding or
buy it now. If you have
a set amount you
want, a BIN is best. If
you just want to sell
your item, online
auction is best. Also,
on this page, you can
set the duration which
ranges 1, 3, 5, 7, or 10
days.
21. Payment &
Shipping
eBay only allows
Paypal as a payment
method, so you must
have a paypal
account to sell. This
will be covered later.
Also, you can
determine which
method of shipping
you would like to use
and how much you
are charging to ship.
22. Final touches
At this point, you are
almost finished
listing. You can set
buyer requirements
here which limits
some bidders from
bidding who may
have previous
payment problems.
Also, you can give
any additional
information you
would like at the
bottom of the page.
23. Review your
listing!
This is your last
change to make and
changes or edits. At
the bottom of this
page is the “List your
item” button
meaning it goes live
on the next click.
Also, it tells you how
much it cost to list
and your estimated
final value fees (FVF)
if auction sells.
24.
25.
26. When you sign up for eBay, before you can buy or sell,
you must sign up with an online payment method. The
most common method (which is owned by eBay) is
Paypal. It is a fast, safe, secure website that allows
money to be transferred in and out at the account
holder’s will.
27. Paypal
This is the homepage
to Paypal. The
process to set up a
Paypal account take
more time than a
Powerpoint
presentation and
give. To go to the
Paypal website, click
anywhere on the
Paypal screen.
28. Bank or Savings Account
Personal Information
Credit Card (maybe)
To confirm your account, Paypal will send two direct
deposits to your bank account in which you come back
to the Paypal site to verify the amounts. The credit
card issue is a back-up payment plan if you opt not to
use your bank account as a back up method.
29. With Paypal, if you sell an item and receive payment, it
goes to your Paypal account. This money sits there
until either one of two things happen:
1) You purchase and item and pay out of your Paypal
account.
2) You transfer the funds to your banking or savings
account.
30. If you purchase an item, you can click “Pay now”.
When you click this button, you review the item you
purchased and then “Continue to Paypal.” At this
moment, you are prompted for your Paypal login ID
and password. Once entered, you review the item ones
more and click “Send Payment.”
To receive payment, you actually entered this in your
listing under “Payments and Shipping”, so there is
nothing else to do.
If you completely understand everything through
here, then….
31.
32. When you list an item and you are working on the
title, what is the most important information to put in
the title and give an example.
When you buy an item and you see a “Best Offer”,
should you use the Buy it Now? If so, why? If not, why?
Can you think of a time in which using a Buy it Now is
better than a Best Offer?
When you receive a payment for an item, what are the
two methods you can use with those funds?
33. You have four assignments to complete to successfully
pass this section of class:
Successfully list an item on eBay and use the detail of
description in the tutorial.
Purchase an item and successfully send payment.
Research to find if there are different methods of
listing by 3rd party companies.
Research what to do if you sell an item and do not
receive payment.
