2. Meet the Presenter -Janet Hallstrom
• I am a Media Specialist at Fleming Island High School. My
educational experience has spanned the past 38 years and
includes teaching at the elementary and high school levels in
Mississippi, Texas, and Florida. I obtained my Bachelor's
Degree at Miss. State and my Masters at the University of
Mississippi. I was National Board Certified in 2002 and became
a STAR DEN and member of the Leadership Council in 2006.
• While serving as a Media Specialist, I have also provided
services as the District Media Broadcasting Specialist, a
National Board mentor, a consultant for Sprint, a facilitator for
summer training for teachers in Clay county, an assessor for the
National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, a
Curriculum Designer for Clay Virtual Academy, and facilitator for
Distance Learning Classes for the Schultz Teacher Training
Center. This summer I presented at Blackboard World in New
Orleans, LA. I have an article being published this fall for
Library Media Collection, a national magazine.

8. What is a passcode?
A passcode is an eight digit/character
combined code that is unique to each
subscribing school
Teachers use this passcode to create
their own usernames/passwords
Once a teacher creates their own
username/password they do not need
to use the passcode again

Video to an Image
Inserting1. Download a video segment and picture and save to
Video a folder
(Embed)
2. Go to the Insert tab and click Picture
3. Select the image
4. Right click the selected image on the slide and
select Hyperlink
5. Find the video that you downloaded and double
click or click Ok to connect the file to the image as a
hyperlink
8. The hyperlink is signified when your cursor changes
to a pointing finger when you pass over the image.

3. Select Movie from file
4. Navigate to the file that you downloaded
5. Double click the file and it will embed the video into
your PowerPoint slide

• How do my students log in?
CR • Students go to
www.discoveryeducation.com and log in
with the username/password assigned
to them
• Students go to the assigned url and just
sign in with their first and last name.
72. Why do my students have to validate if they are 13
years or younger?
Beginning on October 30, 2009, all students will be required to
confirm their age. This prompt will display only once per student
user as long as they complete the required action.
If students indicate that they are older than 13, they will be
directed into the Student Center and will not be prompted with this
question again.
If students indicate that they are younger than 13:
They will be asked to enter a parent's e-mail address. DE will
send an e-mail to the parent with notification that their child is
utilizing www.discoveryeducation.com site.
If students cannot provide a parent's e-mail address, they will
access to print a PDF version of the email to give to their parents.
Upon entering their parent's e-mail address or printing the PDF,
students will be directed into the Student Center. They will not be
prompted with this request again.
