2. APMs are used in different settings, most often in large
facilities where operations are time-intensive, but can also
function as local transit

network that is reliant on PRTs within city limits

Notas del editor
Vuchic (456) notes that AGT is “most professionally correct term”, so I’ll refer to it throughout the presentation
However, AGTs and APMs differ in typical area coverage
- AGTs serve transit functions in urban areas
- APMs are more traditionally used as automated shuttles to major activity centers (airports, campuses, convention centers)
Different types serve different functions
- Neighborhood connectors
- Sprawling campuses or superblocks (Vegas)
- Downtown cores
AGTs have varying length systems (ex. Kuala Lumpur = 29 km)
PRT: Passengers queue and automated system is prompted for service
- Passengers enter specified, desired destination
- Boarding/de boarding is done off-track, to allow bypass
- System is proposed to route vehicles to areas of anticipated future demand!!
San Jose is included based purely on long-term conceptual reference in their transportation plans
Cost 25 million pounds (X $$)
Pods connect business parking to Terminal 5
Why?
Masdar City is a conceptual PRT system that is part of Abu Dhabi’s transport plan
- Objective = to be the best in the world
City will be elevated to allow crosswind underdraft; regulate ambient temperature
- City walls
- Level of projected job activity is indicative of large parking allocation outside of city walls and PRT transit only within city walls
