This document discusses volunteerism and the importance of developing values in action (VIA) among students at Endeavour Primary School. It provides examples of VIA activities carried out at the school, including a buddy program between older and younger students, classroom duties, litter picking, and donation drives. The document emphasizes that volunteer activities allow students to care for their school, friends, community, and develop compassion for those of different nationalities. Upcoming activities highlighted include students and teachers making cards for elderly home residents. The overall message is the importance of cultivating a spirit of volunteerism from a young age.

Good morning students. Here’s a question for all of you before we start. What do you think is volunteerism?Let me show you a video as you ponder over the question.
Giving Money – Charity Shows to raise fund for beneficiaries such as the Children Cancer society, NKF and many more.
Giving Time
Do you think it only happen in TV programmes? Definitely not!Today, we had a chance to step forward to visit and help out a needy resident, MrLoh to spruce up his flat.We helped to clean up his flat, repaint the walls, and added in some new furniture for him.It was indeed a good pre-CNY cleaning work out!And certainly, a meaningful Saturday well-spent, with a great sense of fulfillment at the end.
Bedroom: Before
Bedroom: After!
We are happy to see the happy smiles on MrLoh!It makes all the hard work very worthwhile.
Baking and spreading the love during the festive season.Pineapple tarts for those we care!During this festive season, we would gather everyone (our volunteers and public) to start rounds of baking session, baking the all-time-favourite “Ong Lai” (pineapple tarts) to share with the less fortunate who are staying in the homes, and might not have a chance of celebrating such a joyous festival with their loved ones. At the same time, it is a great bonding session with the many rounds of baking in the kitchen. The kitchen was humming with activity: expert hands cracking eggs, fingers religiously kneading fluffy dough, strong arms stirring surprisingly tough & sticky brownish pineapple fillings and helpers scurrying along, grabbing flour, spoons and trays. All in a seemingly harmonious exercise!
The excitement came when the very first tray of piping hot and crispy (and very browned-out) authentic home-made tarts rolled out of the oven.
Look at the bottles and bottles and cookies we baked that’s ready for deliver!
The young, the old, we had a chance to invite many different people to come together and bake pineapple tarts to give to our beneficiaries!

After spending days in the kitchen, we would repack and prepare small packs of pineapple tarts to distribute to each and everyone in the homes, personally! Visiting the different homes, passing our home-made tarts personally to them, exchanging conversations and engaging them with activities and fun, we certainly hope our little efforts did make their Chinese New Year a happier and loved one.
It may not be the most yummy and tasty cookies that we have baked, but we truly baked them with our sincere hearts and we hope to spread the warmth and love to more people around us.We know the elderly at the homes felt it.
Someone lives when someone gives. Do you know that 1 bag of blood can save 3 lives?

Kind souls who donated new uniforms for all the kids in school at the small island.
These kids who stayed in the orphanage, lived on sponsorship from kind souls coming from all over the world, with only 20 USD for a month, covering their living expenses, school fees, food, clothings and everything. We also brought over computer educational software where the children can explore with the laptops that was donated by Ngee Ann Polytechnic. After that, we had the Care Giver from the home to bring us to the factory.
As we wanted to purchase…. New Slippers for everyone at Kolup 4 Orphanage!
Check out everyone’s happy smiles upon receiving their new slippers!
A happy group photo with everyone at the home as a memory.
Let me end my talk with a quote that Auntie Mary mentioned in her video:“It is more blessed to give than to receive”It is to step out of your comfort zone and develop the heart for volunteerism.Spend your time meaningfully and derive the great sense of satisfaction through these meaningful acts.It is also the joy and passion in bringing smiles and spreading love to more people! Our lives become more purposeful when we make a difference in the lives of others. The great personal fulfillment and a sense of meaning which you will achieve through these acts.Even if it is the tiniest little efforts or time that was contributed, no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. So long as you do it with your heart, and love.
Good morning students. Here’s a question for all of you before we start. What do you think is volunteerism?Let me show you a video as you ponder over the question.
VIA are learning experiences that support students' development as socially responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the community through the learning and application of values, knowledge and skills. VIA fosters student ownership over how they can contribute to the community. As part of VIA, students reflect on their experience, the values they have put into practice and how they can continue to contribute meaningfully to home, school and nation. develop their sense of belonging and commitment to our school and country.
