3. Lev 10:1-3 ESV Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took
his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered
unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them.
(2) And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and
they died before the LORD. (3) Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is
what the LORD has said, 'Among those who are near me I will be
sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.'" And Aaron held
his peace.
4. UNAUTHORIZED
What is the Big Deal?
1. As sons of Aaron (Priests) their daily
function was to burn the incense.
2. They were to burn in the incense in
their censer (bowl)
3. Isn’t it just important that they burned
the incense, God doesn’t really care
about the details
4. Maybe it burn quicker, brighter,
smelled better or was simply easier.
5.
6. UNAUTHORIZED
Offered before the LORD
1. Similar to worship.
2. They were supposed to take from the
coals of the brazen altar, Lev. 16:12,
Num. 16:18; 46.
3. However, they started the fire, IT WAS
UNAUTHORIZED.
7. Is Our Worship Authorized?
1. Must be in spirit and in truth; John 4:24
2. Is our worship led by the men, 1 Tim. 2:8, 12.
3. Do we praise God in vocal only singing, Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16
4. Do we partake the Lord’s supper every Sunday,Acts 20:7; 1 Co. 11:20.
5. Do we give of our means each Lord’s day, 1 Co. 16:2
1Ti 2:8 ESV I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting
holy hands without anger or quarreling;
Eph 5:19 ESV addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual
songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,
Act 20:7 ESV On the first day of the week, when we were gathered
together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the
next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.
1Co 16:2 ESV On the first day of every week, each of you is to put
something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be
no collecting when I come.
8. God is a Consuming Fire
Immediate Punishment for Nadab and Abihu
Lev 10:2 ESV And fire came out from before the LORD and
consumed them, and they died before the LORD.
Do Not Mistake God’s Longsuffering for non-punishment
2Pe 3:9-11 ESV The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some
count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should
perish, but that all should reach repentance. (10) But the day of the Lord
will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar,
and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth
and the works that are done on it will be exposed. (11) Since all these
things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in
lives of holiness and godliness,
9. God is a Consuming Fire
Vengeance is Coming
2Th 1:7-9 ESV and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to
us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels
(8) in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God
and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. (9) They
will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence
of the Lord and from the glory of his might,
10. Sanctified & Glorified
Lev 10:3 ESV Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is
what the LORD has said, 'Among those who are
near me I will be sanctified, and before all the
people I will be glorified.'" And Aaron held his
peace.
1Co 6:18-20 ESV Flee from sexual immorality.
Every other sin a person commits is outside the
body, but the sexually immoral person sins against
his own body. (19) Or do you not know that your
body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you,
whom you have from God? You are not your own,
(20) for you were bought with a price. So glorify
God in your body.
11. Sanctified & Glorified
1Ti 2:9-10 ESV likewise also that women should
adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with
modesty and self-control, not with braided hair
and gold or pearls or costly attire, (10) but with
what is proper for women who profess godliness--
with good works.
1Co 6:11 ESV And such were some of you. But
you were washed, you were sanctified, you were
justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and
by the Spirit of our God.
