2. Criticized for Doing Good
Are there any restrictions on
doing Good?
3Jn 1:11 ESV Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate
good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does
evil has not seen God.
1Pe 3:15-17 ESV but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy,
always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a
reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
(16) having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those
who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. (17) For
it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for
doing evil.
3. Gal 6:9-10 ESV And let us not grow weary of doing good,
for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (10)
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone,
and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
4. you Are
Luk 13:10-13 ESV Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on
the Sabbath. (11) And there was a woman who had had a disabling
spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten
herself. (12) When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her,
"Woman, you are freed from your disability." (13) And he laid his hands
on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.
Freed – (apoluō) to let go free, release; a captive, i.e. to loose his
bonds and bid him depart, to give him liberty to depart (Thayer)
5. you Are
Luk 13:16 ESV And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham
whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the
Sabbath day?"
Joh 8:31-36 ESV So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If
you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, (32) and you will
know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (33) They answered him,
"We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone.
How is it that you say, 'You will become free'?" (34) Jesus answered
them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to
sin. (35) The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains
forever. (36) So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
6. You Hypocrites
Luk 13:14-16 ESV But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because
Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days
in which work ought to be done. Come on those days and be
healed, and not on the Sabbath day." (15) Then the Lord
answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath
untie his ox or his donkey from the manger and lead it away to water it?
(16) And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan
bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?"
Hypocrite – (hupokritēs) an actor, stage player; or a dissembler,
pretender, hypocrite (Thayer)
7. Adversaries Put to Shame
Luk 13:17 ESV As he said these things, all his adversaries were put to
shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were
done by him.
The Truth Often Shames
8. Jesus Endured Shame for US!
Heb 12:1-3 ESV Therefore, since we are
surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let
us also lay aside every weight, and sin which
clings so closely, and let us run with endurance
the race that is set before us, (2) looking to
Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and is
seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
(3) Consider him who endured from sinners
such hostility against himself, so that you may
not grow weary or fainthearted.
9. Jesus Adversaries put to Shame
Luk 13:17 ESV As he said these things, all his adversaries
were put to shame, and all the people rejoiced at all the
glorious things that were done by him.
Gen 3:15 ESV I will put enmity between you and the woman, and
between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and
you shall bruise his heel."
1Co 15:20-26 ESV But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the
firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (21) For as by a man came
death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. (22) For as
in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. (23) But each
in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who
belong to Christ. (24) Then comes the end, when he delivers the
kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every
authority and power. (25) For he must reign until he has put all his
enemies under his feet. (26) The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
10. Jesus Adversaries put to Shame
1Co 15:55-58 ESV "O death, where is your
victory? O death, where is your sting?" (56) The
sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
(57) But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. (58) Therefore, my
beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in
the Lord your labor is not in vain.
Php 2:8-10 ESV And being found in human form, he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (9)
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name
that is above every name, (10) so that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

Rev 5:9-14 ESV And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to
take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your
blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and
people and nation, (10) and you have made them a kingdom and priests
to our God, and they shall reign on the earth." (11) Then I looked, and I
heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice
of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of
thousands, (12) saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was
slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and
glory and blessing!" (13) And I heard every creature in heaven and on
earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,
"To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor
and glory and might forever and ever!" (14) And the four living
creatures said, "Amen!" and the elders fell down and worshiped.
