Using a Study Schedule & the PQRS System Lesson #4
Study Schedules Organize study times Set “fixed” times for study & review Review daily, if only for 5-10 minutes per class Helps to know what material to study, when to study, & how long Makes effective use of study time for productive test prep
Test Preparation ,[object Object],Organize locker, notebook, & home study area Schedule study times at school & at home Arrange daily activities in 3 categories 1. have to 2. need to 3. want to Schedule time by day, week, month, or other time frame
Strategies in Scheduling Decide how to use your time Survey an actual week–record how you spend time I.D. Time wasters Begin to work out time schedule Stick to it Time Management
Set up Schedules Use a weekly activity schedule Prioritize Schedule times to study, prepare for tests, & other “stuff” Be flexible Don’t jam-pack, allow for “surprises” Schedule study times every school day & 1 weekend day Be patient Takes “30 days” to make a habit
Copies of Your Schedule Post it up in high traffic areas at home Refer to the schedule before starting the day and after dinner. Check at least once during the day too.
PQRS Use with Textbooks Preview Question Read Study
Preview Get an overview of the assignment/chapter Estimate time to go over reading for comprehension Skim the intro, headings, subheadings, summary paragraphs, bolded words, graphic aids, chapter questions, etc.
Question Ask the 5 “Ws” & “How” Who What When Where Why How
Read Answer the questions in the “Q” section Through the textbook or notes taken in class Keep notes on words/concepts/ideas you don’t understand Mark down notes or highlight in your book/on Post-It Notes THINK as you read through material
Study REVIEW, REVIEW, REVIEW! Take in main ideas, important facts & details to memory Answer assigned questions Go through end-of-chapter questions Ask more questions & search for answers
More Studying Use graphic aids/study guides   Know how to read & understand them Look over your notes Be able to communicate the text/concepts/ideas to someone else
