UN 여성차별 철폐 협약은 성차별을 ‘여성들의 결혼 여부와
상관 없이 양성평등과 정치 및 경제, 사회, 문화, 시민사회 등 전
분야에서 인권과 근본적인 자유권을 인지 및 향유, 행사하는 것을
저해하거나 무효화하는 결과 또는 목적이 있는 모든 성차에 근거
한 구분 및 배제, 제한’으로 정의한다.
본 협약 회원들은 다음과 같이 모든 형태의 여성 차별을 철폐
하기 위한 여러 가지 대책을 위해 노력하기로 약속한다.
 자국의 사법체계에서 양성평등 원리를 확립하며, 모든 차별적
법률을 철폐하고 차별을 금지하는 법안을 입법할 것
 여성을 차별로부터 보호하기 위해 법정 및 각종 공공 기관 설치
 개인 또는 단체, 기업의 여성에 대한 모든 차별행위 근절 노력
본 협약은 선거권 및 피선거권을 포함한 정치 및 공공 분야와
교육 및 보건, 고용에서 여성의 평등한 접근권 및 기회를 보장하여
양성평등 실현의 기반을 마련하고자 한다.

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women
(CEDAW), defines discrimination against women as "...any distinction, exclusion or restriction
made on the basis of sex which has the effect or purpose of impairing or nullifying the
recognition, enjoyment or exercise by women, irrespective of their marital status, on a basis of
equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the
political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field."
The members commit themselves to undertake a series of measures to end
discrimination against women in all forms, including:
 to incorporate the principle of equality of men and women in their legal system, abolish all
discriminatory laws and adopt appropriate ones prohibiting discrimination against women;
 to establish tribunals and other public institutions to ensure the effective protection of
women against discrimination; and
 to ensure elimination of all acts of discrimination against women by persons, organizations
or enterprises.
The Convention provides the basis for realizing equality between women and men
through ensuring women's equal access to, and equal opportunities in, political and public life -
- including the right to vote and to stand for election -- as well as education, health and
employment.

정신과 전문의 M. 스콧 펙 박사의 대표작 '아직도 가야 할 길'의 첫 문장은 어쨌든 인생은
힘들다는 말부터 시작한다. 일단 그 사실을 받아들이기만 하면, 그 괴로움을 극복하고 진보할 수
있다는 것이다.
내세울 수 있는 학력이나 직함, 연봉과 상관 없이, 누구나 고군분투하고, 실망하며, 주저앉
을 때가 있기 마련이다. 원래 그것이 인생이다. 무릉도원은 상상 속의 낙원일 뿐이고, 이상 세계
는 현실에 없다. 나보다 나아 보이는 사람들도 누구나 똑같은 좌절을 느낀다는 점만 인정한다
면, 훌훌 털고 앞으로 나아가기가 더 쉬워질 것이다
반면에, 여전히 나만이 피해자라고 상상하며 자신과 주변 상황을 개선하려는 의지를 거부
한다면, 계속 불행할 수밖에 없다.
태도가 현실을 조각한다. 세계적인 임상의학연구의 중심지 메이요클리닉(Mayo Clinic)의
연구에서는 긍정적이고 낙관적인 생각이 일부 폐암 유형의 환자들의 치료에 분명히 도움이 되었
다고 결론지은 바 있다. 이와 같이, 세상을 보는 관점은 삶의 질에 어마어마한 영향을 끼친다.
때때로 일이 뜻대로 되지 않으면 세상이 영영 끝난 것처럼 절망하는 사람이 있는가 하
면, 다른 길로 도약할 기회로 활용하는 사람도 있다. 좌절이냐, 비상이냐. 결국 선택은 나 자신에
게 달려 있다.

4. Your attitude affects your reality
M. Scott Peck wrote the book, "The Road Less Traveled." In the first sentence/ he
comments that life is hard, / and once you accept that fact you are better able to move
forward.
Everyone, regardless of the credentials on the wall, the title or the paycheck, has
struggles and disappointments and setbacks. That is just the way it is. There is no
Camelot. There is no perfect world. Once you recognize that everyone struggles with the
same fundamental issues, it becomes a little easier to move forward.
But if you assume a victim mentality and you aren't willing to try to improve yourself
or your situation, you are doomed.
Attitude creates reality. For example, Mayo Clinic researchers have clearly
documented that having a more positive, optimistic view of the situation provides health
benefits for individuals with some forms of lung cancer. So how you view a situation can
have enormous impact on how you live.
Some people see setbacks as absolute devastation whereas others view them as
opportunities. At the end of the day, the choice is really up to you.
