2. Kerrang Magazine cover The masthead connotates that the target audience is teenagers as this is shown as the title is a smashed- like style. This also connotates that the genre of the magazine is rock due to the title style. The male here is using a carefree pose as his arms are behind his head. He can also be seductive as his head is tilted to the side and part of his body showing, inviting the reader in to read the magazine. The photos of the different rock stars inform the reader of the who is involved in the magazine. It’s also useful as the reader may read about a specific rock star by seeing the photo. This piece of the magazine invites the reader to read the magazine as it is using direct address by using the word ‘you’. This piece of the magazine informs the reader of what’s in the magazine so that the reader may want to read the magazine because of this specific article in the magazine. There is a piece of the reverse male gaze here as the image of the man has some of his body showing and so invites females to read the magazine because of him This strip line shows to the reader what is involved in the magazine. It will also get the reader to want on read about this feature

3. Kerrang contents page this section of the contents page is a comment from the editor. This may be used to inform the reader of what's in the magazine so the reader may read about what the editors commenting on. This text is a direct address from someone interviewed in the magazine. This will get the reader to read the interview if they find this piece interesting. This also informs the reader of who is being interviewed so the reader may want to read it just because of this person. This photo is used to capture the readers eye as it is the biggest photo. This can also inform the reader that this is the main article in the magazine and gets the reader to read about this band. On this side of the contents it informs the reader that there are different sections of the magazine due to the sub-headings. It also informs the reader of what’s in these sections. There are also numbers to show to the reader which page a specific article is on so the reader won’t have to worry about finding the page. These photos also are used to inform the reader of other articles in the magazines. The reader may not think that these are main articles, but they may read the articles if they find the image interesting and want to read about it. These photos have a piece of texts that simplifies what the article is about so the reader will read it knowing briefly what it’s about.

4. Q Magazine cover This image invites the reader into reading the magazine. This is also an example of the male gaze as she isn’t wearing a top and will get men to read the article on this woman. These bold texts are used to attract the reader’s attention so that the reader may want to read an article because of these bands. It also informs the reader of what is in the magazine. The masthead of the cover isn’t across the page but is also clearly shown on the cover page so that the reader will know what magazine it is. The masthead is also in the corner of the page to give more areas for other pieces of the cover. This text shows that an interview is shown in the magazine as the texts is taken from someone. The text also makes the reader interested in the interview as the reader wants to know why this man has said this. These big texts show to the audience the name of the main article in the magazine. It also gives the idea that this magazine will have an interview on this person. This little section of the contents informs the reader of another article in the magazine. The text is in a circle to help it stand out and attract the reader’s attention. This could also be used to hook the reader into wanting to read this article. These texts at the bottom of the page make the reader think that these articles aren’t as important as the others as the texts are small and packed in a small space. But it also attracts the audience as the text is on a block that stands out from the background The red texts are used to emphasise specific words and invite the reader to read more of the cover and get the reader interested in reading more articles.

5. Q Contents page These texts show to the reader of what is in the magazine due to the bold sub-headings. The smaller texts underneath give brief information on what these articles are about. The red numbers are used to stand out so the reader won’t have to look around for the number of the page of an article. This photo makes the reader believe that this is the main article of the magazine as this is the biggest image on the page and has the article title and page number on a different area than the rest of the numbers. This part of the contents is used to inform the reader that this is an uncommon article in this magazine as the title says ‘Oasis special’ and is in a box separated from the rest of the contents. The colour of the text is also different to help separate it from the rest of the contents. Also all the sub- headings in this box is linked to the specific band that is used in this magazine. This section of the contents is separated from the rest of the text. The heading ‘review’ suggests that this is a different part of the magazine. The text next to the heading gives the reader an idea of what this review is about. The text ‘biggest and best’ suggest that this is someone important and will get the reader to read about this man.

6. NME magazine cover The bold text is used to gain the reader’s attention to that part of the cover. The big text suggest that it is an important article in the magazine. The text below it gives the reader information on this man and gets the reader to want to read about this man The masthead doesn’t go across the cover but is clearly shown in bold text so that the masthead is clearly seen. The text here is inside a circle to separate it from the rest of the magazine. The different colour text separate the information about the article and what the articles about. These texts also give the reader information on another article. The text seems abit unrealistic as it says ‘conquers America’ but this implies that this band is a huge hit in America and will get the reader to want to read about it. This text gives the reader some information on the band. The text ‘guns, gods’ suggest that this is an important band and will get the reader to read the article. The text ‘4 million albums sold’ suggests that this is a good band and the reader should read about them. The white text here implies that this band are famous as it says ‘everyone has fallen to them’ which also suggests that they are better than other bands. It also uses direct address to make the reader feel involved. The bold text is used to grasp the reader’s attention towards the magazine. It also implies that the band shown is the main article in the magazine. The colour of the text also makes it stand out from the rest of the magazine.

7. Q Contents page These two photos indicate that the main article in the magazine is about these people. This is shown as they are the only photos on the page and take up a part of the page. This also suggests that this is an important band and will get the reader to want to read about them. This part of the contents suggest that this is the main article in the magazine as there are bold texts and it is placed in the middle of the page. There is also some information about the article in the magazine so that the reader will get some idea of what the article is about before reading it. The column of the contents has subheadings which suggests that there are different parts of the magazine such as news and reviews. There are also texts to show the reader what's involved with each part of the magazine so the reader can easily find something their interested in to read about. this part of the contents is separated from the rest of the contents as the text is in a black box.
