The Indiana Sports Corp in conjunction with the City of Indianapolis would like to be
awarded the honor to host the ISU World Figure Skating Championship in 2016. The City of
Indianapolis has a long history of hosting world class amateur, international and professional
sports events. Indianapolis is the home of the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Auto
Racing), Indianapolis Colts (NFL), Indiana Pacers (NBA), Indianapolis Indians (MiLB) and has
hosted championship events including the 2012 NFL Super Bowl, several NCAA Men’s and
Women’s Final Four events, the 1987 Pan American Games as well as many other collegiate
regional and national championships. To say that Indianapolis is a sports town is an
understatement. Not only has Indianapolis hosted fantastic events, but Indianapolis is also the
home of USA Track and Field, USA Swimming, USA Gymnastics, the NCAA and other national
sporting organizations. Indianapolis’s interest in bringing the 2016 ISU World Figure Skating
Championship will be hosted by a community driven to provide a safe and hospitable event
built on Indiana’s “Hoosier Hospitality”.
In addition to Indianapolis’ history in sports, Indianapolis has continued to be a clean, safe,
community which includes over 33,000 hotel rooms in which 7,100 are located in downtown
Indianapolis. It is also important to note that 4,700 of the 7,100 hotels located downtown are
connect via climate controlled skywalks to Circle Center Mall, the Convention Center and other
areas within downtown1.
The City of Indianapolis will be dedicated to ensure that the sport of figure skating is elevated
through youth organizations across the country. Indianapolis Sports Corp will be dedicated to
exploring new ventures to place the recreational of ice skating and the sport of figure skating in
more locations in Indiana.
Indianapolis features a state of the art Airport, is within a day’s drive of 75% of the US
population2, 2nd to Washington DC in monuments dedicated to veterans3, has the world’s
largest Children’s Museum4 and is one of America’s Best Downtowns5. All of this excitement,
entertainment and hospitality will be woven through every piece of the organizing committees’
plan to provide US Figure Skating the best ISU World Championships to date.
