The document outlines 5 musts and a couple shoulds for effective use of Facebook's new timeline feature. The 5 musts are: 1) Create a great cover photo, 2) Follow restrictions on what can be in the cover photo, 3) Optimize the about section, 4) Optimize the 4 images in the app area, and 5) Access the admin area to engage with users. The musts provide guidance on using the new cover photo, about section, app area, and admin panel for engagement. A couple of shoulds are also mentioned but not described.

7. 1. MUST
CREATE A GREAT COVER PHOTO:
Use the space available to promote your
organization in a way that captures peoples
attention using great images!
Thursday, April 19, 12 7
8. 2. MUST not
Facebook has put a number of restrictions on
what you can use in your cover photo. Here
are those restrictions:
Price or purchase info, such as “40% off” or “Download it at
www...” is prohibited
Contact info, such as web address, email, mailing address or other
info intended for your Page’s About section
Reference to user interface elements, such as “Like” or “Share” or
any other Facebook site features
Calls to action, such as “Get it Now” and “Tell Your Friends”
Space not meant for promotions, coupons or advertisements
Cover photo should not be primarily text-based or infringe on
anyone else’s copyright.

9. 3. MUST
Since you can not use your cover photo as an
advertisement (blatantly) for your organization
you need to make sure you optimize your
ABOUT section
- This means including your website, blog URL,
contact information, email, etc., so that it
shows up in the About section visible to the
fans or guests of your page.

to edit your ABOUT section and what
happens when you change the category and
type of business you are.

14. 4. MUST
Optimize the 4 images that Facebook provides
in the “App” area
Here are a few important pieces of information regarding these 4
boxes:
- Specs for thumbnail-111 x 74 (but these are increasing in April--stay
tuned and we’ll let you know what and when)
- Can not change the name, image or position of the Photos App. And,
you can’t change the settings for the Videos, Notes, Likes or Events
but you can move them around
- Thumbnails can be switched around to make the three most strategic
apps display on the first row.
- Up to 12 Apps will be shown on your Page Timeline
(Note: Both Jeff and Chris can help you develop a strategy and create
Apps for your Page. This includes contests, Fan Like Gate strategies,
etc.)

16. 5. MUST
Access the Admin area to respond to
Notifications, New Likes and set up all of your
settings.
The KEY word is ENGAGEMENT. Yes, responding
to Comments on your wall is important. But, so
is acknowledging those who “LIKE” your page.
**TIP** - Review those who have recently liked your page and periodically
click on their names and thank them for coming by, acknowledge something you
see on their page (i.e., personalize your interaction)
