Looks at changing role of librarians in research support. Librarians working with PhD students at 5 unis in Norway. Empirical study on PhD students at 5 Norwegian univerisites. Goal to develop web-based IL modules for PhD students. Mapped info needs, behaviour and practices of PhD students. Modules seek to bridge the gap between diff conceptions of IL of PhD students and empower libns by using these modules.Librarians can only facilitate learning in academic research community if they first facilitate their own learning with regards to research skills and practices in the research environment. Looks at ways librarians can develop and enhance their own research IL. Did survey of 6 uni libraries in SA. Ina ddition to on-the-job learning, proposes special research libn qualification in SA.CPD key tool for good IL provision. PhD thesis on how solo libns in Ireland define CPD and and perceptins of formal and informal learning. One-Person librarians discovered how CPD linked to IL support they provide in the w/place. Networking, forming Comms o Practice, member of LAs, use of social media – mix of formal and informal methods
