The Seed of David Comes to His Temple

A Rod has come forth from the stem of Jesse (Is. 11:1–5)—the Seed of David whose
kingdom shall be established forever (2 Sam. 7:1–16). In the fullness of time, God sent
forth His Son Jesus to redeem us from the judgment of the Law (Gal. 4:1–7). Now He is
presented in the temple in fulfillment of the Law and revealed to be ―a light for revelation
to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel‖ (Luke 2:22–40). Christ has
enlightened us in baptism, giving us to be adopted as sons of God and heirs of eternal life.
Receiving the Holy Sacrament of His body and blood, we are prepared to depart this world
in peace, for our eyes have seen the salvation of God in Him.

 1 It came upon the midnight clear,  3 All you, beneath your heavy load,
That glorious song of old, By care and guilt bent low,
From angels bending near the earth Who toil along a dreary way
To touch their harps of gold: With painful steps and slow:
"Peace on the earth, goodwill to all, Look up, for golden is the hour,
From heav'n's all-gracious king." Come swiftly on the wing,
The world in solemn stillness lay The Prince was born to bring you
  To hear the angels sing.                  peace;
                                            Of Him the angels sing.

With peaceful wings unfurled, By prophets seen of old,
And still their heav'nly music floats When down into the circling years
O'er all the weary world. Came Christ as was foretold.
Above its sad and lowly plains His word of peace shall to the earth
They bend on hov'ring wing, God's ancient promise bring,
And ever o'er its babel sounds And all who take this gift will hear
The blessed angels sing. The song the angels sing.

  • 13. FIRST SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS Isaiah 11:1–5 Galatians 4:1–7 Luke 2:(22–32) 33–40 The Seed of David Comes to His Temple A Rod has come forth from the stem of Jesse (Is. 11:1–5)—the Seed of David whose kingdom shall be established forever (2 Sam. 7:1–16). In the fullness of time, God sent forth His Son Jesus to redeem us from the judgment of the Law (Gal. 4:1–7). Now He is presented in the temple in fulfillment of the Law and revealed to be ―a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel‖ (Luke 2:22–40). Christ has enlightened us in baptism, giving us to be adopted as sons of God and heirs of eternal life. Receiving the Holy Sacrament of His body and blood, we are prepared to depart this world in peace, for our eyes have seen the salvation of God in Him.
