2. Before the Mexican
war.
• Before the Mexican Cession, America got Texas as
their 28th state. America wanted to expand into the
west. So they asked mexico to sell some land. But
Mexico's government refused to meet with The
American government.
• Before America had bought the land Mexico owned it.
3. During the Mexican war
• The U.S. Ignored an order sent by the Mexican Army.
Both countries started fighting. Three weeks later
congress declared war on Mexico. The fighting kept
going for over a year. It ended in the month of
September 1847. Then in February 1847 both countries
signed the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo.
• The United States gained the territory in February 25
1848 U.S.
4. Treaty of Guadalupe-
Hidalgo.
• The treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo recognizes Texas as a
U.S state.
• The Treaty ended the Mexican American War on
February 2,1848. Mexico agreed to give up about 55
percent of its land in exchange for 15 million dollars. the
land America bought was called the Mexican Cession.
Later the land was made into several American states.
5. After the War
• After America bought the land in the Mexican Cession
they bought a bit more land in the Gadsden Purchase.
• The land that they bought is now California, Nevada,
and Utah and parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico,
and Wyoming.
