2. Who? Thomas Jefferson, Nathan Dane, Manasseh Cutler and Rufus King are all remembered for their ideas on the Northwest Ordinance. The original ordinance was written by Thomas Jefferson, But the final ordinance was written by Rufus King.
3. What? The Northwest Ordinance was thought to be a great achievement of the Confederation Congress , up until then the land was forbidden for people to build on. The Ordinance that Jefferson wrote was basically a list of conditions to be followed when they made the Northwest Ordinance, it had to be more than three states but less than five. It had to contain provisions of education, the maintenance of civil rights and the prohibition of slavery.
4. When? The Northwest Ordinance became a part of the United States on July 13th, 1787. Several British forts nearby lead to disagreements which eventually lead to the war of 1812. Which the Americans won, which stopped British from getting any of the Northwest Territory.
5. Where? The Northwest Ordinance is a piece of territory which includes Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. The first state created there was Ohio, made in 1803, and the rest of the territory was called the Indiana Territory. Around a third of Minnesota is also a part of this territory.
6. Why? The Northwest Ordinance contributed to the forming of the USA, it accelerated in the westward expansion of the United States, and I expect it gave a lot of people more space, and the opportunity for people from around the world to come to America.
