The Apollo Foundation is a hypothetical non-profit that would focus on building the groundwork for a spacefaring human civilization. My dream is to start this one day with my own money and that of other supporters. Always looking for feedback!

Spacefaring (adj.)
- to be capable of and active in the art of
space travel or space transport
- to travel the planets and stars as seafaring
nations travel the oceans

Building a spacefaring civilization is important
Knowledge

Resources
Our understanding of life, physics, and
meaning is limited by the geographic
scope of our civilization.
The more worlds humans occupy, the
less likely we are to be extinguished by
catastrophic events.
Places beyond our planet can provide
materials to improve
productivity, health, and happiness.

Our mission is to…
in projects that tackle threats to a
spacefaring human civilization.Invest
a global discussion around about mitigating
species-level threats and striking out for the stars.Ignite
Integrate efforts from around the world to promote
a shared goal of a spacefaring civilization.

Civilization
The path to a spacefaring civilization faces a
spectrum of threats, grouped into five categories:
Pandemic

Disruption
Extinction
Isolation
Ignorance

Task Forces
Health Resilience: A global pandemic of sufficient intensity and scope could kill
billions, potentially leading to a technological Dark Age not unlike the Middle Ages in
Europe. Our Health Resilience task force works to prevent potential pandemics and to
make populations, health systems, and human networks resistant if they should occur.
Clean Energy: Climate destabilization resulting from emissions of greenhouse gases could
cause incalculable economic, ecological, and human damage if emissions are not mitigated.
Our Clean Energy task force is focused on developing and deploying innovative low-
emissions energy technologies—at scale and across the globe.
Planetary Defense: This isn’t science fiction. A single asteroid or other near-Earth object
of sufficient size could decimate or destroy human civilization if its strikes the planet. Our
Planetary Defense task force promotes the creation of technologies to detect, deflect, and
destroy threatening near-Earth objects.
Global Workspace: Perhaps the single greatest threat to spacefaring civilization is a lack of
collaboration across the nations, cultures, religions, and socioeconomic strata of Earth. Our
Global Workspace task force works to create technologies, platforms, and dialogues that
promote widespread collaboration around humanity’s most pressing challenges.
Disruptive Technology: Any spacefaring civilization must first develop the
knowledge, technologies, and equipment that will carry it to the stars. Our Disruptive
Technology task force emphasizes groundbreaking innovation over incremental
progress, working with technological visionaries to accelerate deployment of new
solutions.

We prefer projects that…
Attack several of the five key spacefaring threats.
Collaborate across disciplines, regions, and cultures.
Promote global conversation about species-level challenges.
Are scalable, replicable, and transparent.
