IDEA StatiCa Concrete
Modern construction industry is built on concrete – bridges, shopping malls, residential units, offshore structures,
and infrastructure and energy systems. Therefore engineers have to deal with it. Structural analysis and design
of these structures is a challenging task, both because of the natural complexity of the subject and because
of the regulation an engineer has to comply with. In such an environment, engineers are poised to work quicker,

Design of members, cross-sections and details...
Correctness of structural model – the quality of being true – depends neither on the potential to input any complicated
geometry nor on its spectacular presentation. These conditions are essential, but not sufficient. Member design in complex
3D models is usually a bit messy, slow and it can be on unsafe side!
Less might sometimes be more, and simple model can be more correct than complex one, as we can show on small example.
Columns in first floor are supported by long span girder. The problem is to determine the force in the internal column above
the girder.
Structural models for member design differ from complex 3D models used for overall structural
analysis.
Neither 3D model nor „complete“ 2D model provide realistic action on girder. The dimensions and the reinforcement of girder
and column would be underestimated in this case. The reasons are:
• The models do not respect construction stages.
The columns hang up on the slabs of top floors
in complex model, which is not possible.
• Linear elastic model does not reflect the weakening
of the slabs due to the cracks. Non-linear model would
be too complex and expensive to be used in everyday
practice.
Simplified 2D model without first floor gives upper-bound value of the action on girder.
Correct model for girder design therefore is simple one-floor frame loaded by these actions.

Key value of IDEA StatiCa Concrete is our standalone module RCS for the design of plain, reinforced, prestressed
and composite concrete cross-sections – a result of our long-term experience in the area of reinforced concrete design.
RCS stands for completeness and comprehensiveness of the assessment of cross-sections, transparency of assumptions
and results, and also acts as a perfect guide to Eurocode. Cross-section can be loaded by internal forces imported
from other IDEA StatiCa modules or transferred from various FEA programs by IDEA StatiCa BIM.

Design of necessary reinforcement
RCS enables fast and precise design of the reinforcement necessary to comply with ULS and SLS conditions, specifically
the requirements for strength in flexure, shear, torsion, interaction and the limitations for crack width.
The design is not limited to necessary areas. Number and
diameter of reinforcement bars are calculated in real-time
when selecting reinforcement template.
The amount of shear and longitudinal reinforcement is optimized
for all allowable angles of concrete strut so that the weight
of the sum of both types of the reinforcement is minimized.
Corresponding force in longitudinal reinforcement is respected
in the design.

Optimization of angle θ
Optimization of angle is used for the check of strength in shear, torsion and the interaction of all internal
forces. The goal is to find such angle, which enables optimum use of all materials in the cross-section –
concrete in compression diagonal, shear reinforcement (stirrups and bent-up bars) and longitudinal
reinforcement. Final goal is to improve the economy of the design, compared to common approach,
when the user specifies the angle directly.
M-N-rotation diagram
M-N-rotation diagram can be used for the calculation of properties of plastic hinges e.g. for Pushover Method.

Design of 2D members
Section types
• Two-way slab – flexural effects in two directions

Slab/wall can be reinforced by two layers
of the reinforcement by both surfaces and
the reinforcement bars can be placed arbitrarily.
The checks are performed in user defined
direction, or principal stress direction calculated
for both surfaces and directions perpendicular
to calculated directions, or calculated direction
of concrete compressive strut. The direction
of concrete compressive strut is optimized
for maximum utilization of concrete compressive
strength.
Liquid retaining and containment structures
IDEA StatiCa RCS provides the calculation of crack width for one-way
and two-way slabs of liquid retaining and containment structures
according to EN 1992-3.

Slab on trapezoidal steel sheet
Trapezoidal steel sheets are frequently used as simple permanent
shuttering floor systems, especially in building renovation, eventually
in industrial buildings. Slabs on trapezoidal steel sheets are usually
continuous, therefore in the section above the support it is necessary
to resist negative bending moments by additional bars.

IDEA StatiCa Beam is the module for analysis and design of continuous concrete 2D and 3D beams made from prefabricated
or cast-in-situ elements. The module contains the tools for simple input, structural analysis, reinforcement design, code
assessment, report, bill of material and draft of reinforcement drawings.

IDEA StatiCa Corbel is used for the assessment of concrete structure details. It is based on Strut  Tie method and provides

Transferring of data between different programs can be very time consuming process. IDEA StatiCa BIM reduces that work
to minimum and provides easy import of structure geometry, internal forces of all load cases, combinations and construction
stages from Midas Civil a GEN, AxisVM, Scia Engineer, RFEM, Esa Prima Win, Robot and others. So IDEA StatiCa design
modules work with results calculated by other FEA programs directly.
IDEA StatiCa provides export of all drawings into DXF. This feature can save a lot of engineer’s time during manufacturing

We develop and sell software for structural engineers/consultants, construction authorities and all others who perform/
evaluate/use structural analysis and design of constructions and their members. Our development team researches, tests
and applies new methods of structural analysis. Based on it, we create IDEA StatiCa products – enabling engineers to work

We started developing IDEA StatiCa® in 2010. This enabled us to build it using modern program architecture and innovative

Our company is a member of South Moravian Innovation Center (JIC), entrepreneurial incubator that was a starting point
for several successful tech companies.
IDEA RS leads research team including Czech universities in project “Advanced software for optimal design of complex
structural steel joints”. Developed CBFEM method is protected by patent.
In 2013, we were recognized as „10 High-Tech Startups in Central Europe You Should Know About“ by JIC.
During 2011 and 2012, we were the owner of the project “Interactive system for designing of constructions”, supported
by Czech government. Project materialized into our website www.ideastatica.com – the first web for cloud-based structural
analysis worldwide.

Correctness of structural model – the quality of being true – depends neither on the potential to input any complicated geometry nor on its spectacular presentation. These conditions are essential, but not sufficient. Member design in complex 3D models is usually a bit messy, slow and it can be on unsafe side! Less might sometimes be more, and simple model can be more correct than complex one, as we can show on small example. Columns in first floor are supported by long span girder. The problem is to determine the force in the internal column above the girder. Structural models for member design differ from complex 3D models used for overall structural analysis. Neither 3D model nor „complete“ 2D model provide realistic action on girder. The dimensions and the reinforcement of girder and column would be underestimated in this case. The reasons are: • The models do not respect construction stages. The columns hang up on the slabs of top floors in complex model, which is not possible. • Linear elastic model does not reflect the weakening of the slabs due to the cracks. Non-linear model would be too complex and expensive to be used in everyday practice. Simplified 2D model without first floor gives upper-bound value of the action on girder. Correct model for girder design therefore is simple one-floor frame loaded by these actions. The design is not limited to necessary areas. Number and diameter of reinforcement bars are calculated in real-time when selecting reinforcement template. The amount of shear and longitudinal reinforcement is optimized for all allowable angles of concrete strut so that the weight of the sum of both types of the reinforcement is minimized. Corresponding force in longitudinal reinforcement is respected in the design. The weight of shear and longitudinal reinforcement is optimized  the economy is improved Real bars are designed  the link up to drawings is improved Optimization of angle θ Optimization of angle is used for the check of strength in shear, torsion and the interaction of all internal forces. Final goal is to improve the economy of the design, compared to common approach, when the user specifies the angle directly.
