Arsenal's scouting report summarizes their attacking and defensive tactics, players, and recent results. Defensively, Arsenal presses high with their midfield line and leaves space behind fullbacks. In attack, they build up slowly from the back and attack primarily down the right flank. Key players include Ozil in midfield and Giroud up front. Their last match was a 0-0 draw against Stoke.

20. Defensive Phase
1-Start of Pressing:
•In defensive phase, ARS transform its formation 1-4-2-3-1 in a 1-4-4-2.
•The AMC (Ozil in this case) joins with the STC. AML and AMR join with MC, and DM to create a
midfielder line of 4 players.
•ARS is a team with a high tactical intensity. They make a high pressing, without the defenders
center build up the play.
•The attacking line press the opponent CB to avoid the easy progression.
•The midfielder line step up their position to avoid the middle pass line.
•The defenders line step up till half line, but there are certain weakness for the apparition of a
considered space between defenders line, and midfielders line. Through this mechanism, ARS
provokes a difficult ball progression, forcing the mistake, or the long ball.
•When the rival team overcome the pressing, and penetrate in ARS half field. ARS keeps its 1-4-4-
2 formation, dropping their positions, until to have 8 players behind the ball (Defensive line,
Midfielder line).
•Lack of aggressively from the midfielder players in some situations.
•The distant between lines is very reduced to avoid the opponent game between lines, although
they suffers against team with a lot mobility between lines.
•ARS accumulates players in active ball zone and middle zone, leaving the passive ball zone alone.
In the midfielders line, the MW in the passive ball zone keeps little up his position for DEF-ATK
transitions. The forwards line (AMC-STC) stay up hindering the opponent switch the play, and
waiting for DEF-ATK transition.
2-Destruction of creation:
3-Defense of Goal:
•In defense of goal, The defensive line defends in mix marking.
•ARS defend the goal with 9 players (STC stay in transition zone).
• Good coverage system in 1v1 situation in the flanks, with helps from the CM and DM.
• A weakness during this phase is the apparition of space in the back of LB or RB because the
AML or AMR does not drop enough his position, focusing more in a DEF-ATK transition.
•AMC drops his position to covert middle pass line or avoid possibly opponent dribble for the
middle. The STC stays up waiting for DEF-ATK transition.
21. Defensive Transition Phase
•The ARS defensive reorganization is based on intense organized pressure after
ball loss when the ball loss is in the opposite’s half.. Avoiding the easy ball
progression in the opponent, and the reorganization.
•A weakness during the ARS defensive reorganization is the long distant
between players when the team did not do a long ball possession before.
•When the ball loss is made between their lines, leaving the line of three
attacking midfielders and the strike behind the ball, ARS drop their positions,
the DM (Flamini in this case) and the CM (Ramsey) have a important role,
delaying the opponent ball progression and letting the fast reorganization of
their teammates.
Defensive Reorganization:
Defensive Counter Attack:
•In defensive counter attack situation, ARS looks for the tactical
reorganization in 1-4-4-2.
•They prefers to have a strong block for the defensive phase, that the
tactical anarchy to steal the ball.
•This is a clear example (pictures from right) where ARS is in a defensive
counter attack having more player than the opponent in active ball zone,
but they rather to timing the opponent attack and to benefit the tactical
reorganization. Thus when ARS recovers the ball, the build up will be easier
with more supports for a DEF-ATK transition.
23. Attacking Phase
•ARS uses a 1-4-2-3-1 formation in attacking phase.
•The attacking game model is combinative attack through possession football, mattering the
tempo with the ball, and trying to have the possession in the opposition’s half.
•The possession in zone 1 is slow, looking for the opponent steps up and creation of space
between their lines.
•Both CB move wide their positions to be a pass option, and to create distant between
opponents players in the middle. If they are under intense pressure, they look for the long
ball to the STC (Giroud,Wellbeck). The GK is an option in the build up.
• One of CM come to support the CB in the middle zone to overcome the opponent forward
line. The RB and LB step up their position to create amplitude and depth in the attack.
•Both CM, and RB/LF have an important role in this phase. They arte in charged to carry the
ball between zone 2-3.
•When the ball arrives to zone 4, Arsenal players have freedom of movements.
•High intensity with short passes and a lot of mobility off ball.
•Arsenal bets for gathering a lot of players in front the ball, to have more attacking
options
• One of the CM have freedom to incorporate to the attack (Ramsey).
•The another CM stay down making the role of a defender midfielder, focusing in
defend a possibly ATK-DEF transition, or second balls.
•The RB (Bellerin) tends to incorporate in zone 4.
•When the ball arrives to zone 3, the possession is fast and intense. With quick short passes
and a lot of mobility off ball.
•The three players from the middle (Both CM, and AMC; in this case Flamini,Ramsey, and Ozil)
have freedom of movement. Creating and occupying the spaces created for other. Thus ARS
destabilize the opponent midfielders.
•AMR come to the middle to create space in the right flank for the RB (Bellerin, taking
advantages of his impressive acceleration).
•STC (Giroud) come to middle zone to be a pass option, occupaying the space created for the
AMC (Ozil).
•Arsenal tend to attack for its right side, Bellerin plays depth being a continue danger with his
move off ball to the defenders back.
2-Creation of Play:
3-Finishing:
1-Build Up from the Back:
24. Attacking Transition Phase
•When ARS recovers the ball in its half. The team start to recover its attacking
formation, 1-4-2-3-1.
•The AML/AMR move forward to create space for the LB/RB.
•LB/RB move forward, ocupaying the space created for the AML/AMR.
•CB start to move wide to support their teammates.
•The AMC move to the middle, moving between lines, looking for a pass to
overcome the opponent pressure.
•When ARS recovers the ball in the opponent’s half, fast transition, looking for
verticality and fast goal opportunity. Taking advantage of the opponent tactical
disorganized.
Counterattack:
•ARS is a danger team in counterattack actions. Fast players in the flanks, and strikers
with good hold ball abilites.
•When the ARS’s counter attack starts in its own half. AML and AMR have a important
role, through a fast dribble, carryed the ball until opponent half.
•When ARS’s counter attack starts in opponent’s half, AMC (Ozil) is a important piece.
Looking for vertical passes to the opponents back. Taking advantage of the great pace and
acceleration from their AML/AMR (Campbel,Chamberlain,Wallcot,Sanchez..)
Attacking Reorganization:
