ROKIT
The first of many vintage clothing stores in
the area from Camden tube, the owners
have helpfully divided the shop into style

MUSIC AND VIDEO EXCHANGE
The name says it all: there is a fantastic
selection of CDs, Records, Tapes, Videos

the focus is mainly commercial and chart,
so specialist music-types in particular are
unlikely to find what they’re after here. This
is where the Soul Basement is!

CAMDEN LOCK VILLAGE MARKET
If you haven’t already been confronted
by the maniacal sellers of the wide range
of fast food outlets, you certainly are set
upon by the giant bronze lion guarding
the entrance on the right just over the
canal bridge. The Village Market is a series
of endless paths with Beach Hut style stalls.
They sell as diverse a selection of goods
you’re likely to find in Camden – Mobile
Accessories, Cigars, Posters, Vintage
clothing, Leathers, Posters, Wind-chimes,
Drums, Cupcakes, Vinyl, Fresh Coffee –
the list is endless. If you need to take a
break, take a seat on a back-end of a
Vespa, a recent kitsch addition, rows of
which align the adjacent canal.

factor! The friendly staff are keen to
demonstrate how to use some of the
more obscure items and they also sell

CAMDEN LOCK MARKET HALL
(MIDDLE YARD)
As soon as you walk indoors on the top
level of the atrium, the aroma of Nag
Champa incense traced on the high-
street ups its levels. The gallery and lower
level have many stalls, selling mostly
trinkets, Ladies’ jewellery, fashion and
accessories but you can also find hand-
made knitwear, soaps, prints and posters,
fridge magnets, and even hand-painted

CAMDEN LOCK MARKET WEST YARD
The West Yard sits on the canal with a
quaint barge mooring under a willow tree
to one side. It is slightly more food-
oriented than its Eastern counterpart, but
has a number of excellent independent
shops around the stalls in the middle, from
Penny Burdett for designer knitwear to
Whoops for children’s wear to The Piano
Shop, offering music lessons and selling a
range of antiques, trinkets, and of course,
pianos!

THE STABLES MARKET
Perhaps the most famous of Camden’s
markets, ‘Stables’, as it is locally known,
was formally a horse hospital. The remains
have been converted into shops, bars,
restaurants and market stalls since their
construction1854. The area has recently
been renovated, and is distinctive for the
bronze statues of horses and tanners all
over. Here more so than any market in the
area you can get lost in the winding maze
of passages, and with so many shops to
choose from, it’s not such a bad thing…

CYBERDOG (The Stables)
As you walk through the main entrance to
The Stables, there is no way you can miss
the two giant Robotic men who guard the
doors to this Rave shop. If you do miss them
however, the pounding Techno playing
from the immense system inside, often by a
live DJ accompanied by dancers, will
guide you here. Recently renovated, this
Camden stalwart provides for all your
clubbing and rave needs, stocking
everything from glowsticks to jewellery to
cosmetics to clothing. If you fancy a
dance, the cavernous shop has plenty of
space!

PROUD GALLERY (The Stables)
This photography gallery, set in authentic
old stables, sells artwork by day, much of
which is of outstanding quality. By night,
the space turns into an extremely popular
bar and music venue.
The hill up towards the entrance ought not
put anyone off, as more market stalls
selling clothing, collectables, memorabilia,
records, arts and crafts, posters and
jewellery spill out into the narrow passage.

REJECT POT SHOP
Instead of being destroyed, imperfect
kitchen and tableware are snapped up
by this shop, who then sell them on to
those who don’t mind the imperfections.
Indeed, the household and catering
equipment still perform their function, and
many imperfections are unnoticeable to
the untrained eye. Their slogan “Big Stocks
at Small Prices” is true too, as the shop
provides a fantastic value for money.

MODERN AGE
In 1983, the very first vintage shop was
opened in Camden by the owner of
Modern Age. Back then it was called
Siren, and what was modern then is now
vintage! There is a superb collection of
clothing from several eras across many
racks, so you can lose yourself to space
and time in this relatively small shop.

Notas del editor
CTU thinks not aspirational bars are cool. Burgers. Zenzai. Bar vinyl
Not too much of it. Its not THE camden market. Some get stuck here thinking its real. Keep going. This is not all there is.
