5. WHAT ARE FIRST YEAR MENTORS?
• First Year Mentor, Mission Statement
• First Year Mentors are a group of Salem State University upperclassmen who care about first year students and
share their knowledge of campus resources. As mentors, they provide first year students with guidance based
on their experiences in a non-judgmental and positive manner.

• Salem State University is committed to ensuring a first-year student experience that facilitates the transition
from high school to college and that actively encourages students' involvement in the entire range of
opportunities available in the college community. The first year experience will lay the foundation for student
