1. In an effort to increase the involvement and quality of the use of technology in
instructional settings a professional development schedule will be create to better align
College Park High School with the Long Range Plan for Technology in a better effort to
increase the rating on the Texas STaR Chart accountability system. The professional
development will be offered is a catered style to best help teachers in their recognized
area of weakness as relayed to them by their PDAS evaluations and walkthroughs
specifically centering on the domains as they relate to technology. The teachers will
watch a moodle presentation prior to registering for professional development on
numerous topics presented by expert guest speakers in their fields and be given a
follow up opportunity to utilize the new skills within their lesson plans in a tangible way.
The participants will then relay the lessons learned as well as potential improvements to
the SBDM committee in order to improve the program going forward.
DATA: The data needed will be the teachers analyzing their results on PDAS domains
as they relate to technology in the classroom as well as responses individually and as a
school on the Texas STaR Chart. Results of accountability standards within the
teachers’ content area will also be used in order to tailor their instructional methods to
better reach all learners and achieve the mission and vision of the school.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the professional development is to improve the
accountability rating for the school on the Texas STaR Chart in order to more
appropriately align the school with the Long Range Plan for Technology.
PURPOSE: To provide the teachers with much needed professional development in a
field that is lagging behind real time improvements and updates in an order to improve
the quality of education to the students of College Park as well as prepare them for real
world opportunities.
FACILITATORS: Building Principal Mark Murrell, Campus Technology Personnel Milton Kelly,
Administrator for Technology in CISD Scott Barrett and the provided expert guest speakers.
FINANCIAL RESOURCES: Funding provided by the state, school board, campus budget for
technology and private donations.
TIMELINE:
April 2011 – Teachers will watch the moodle presentation outlining the goals of the professional
development and encourage them to review appropriate data for selecting a topic on technology
for improvement.
May 2011 – Teachers will register for guest speakers ranging on topics from integrating new
internet software such as GoogleDocs and xtranormal to reaching students from poverty with
technology.
June 2011 – Teachers will attend the professional development on the assigned day for staff
2. development. After leaving the professional development they will fill out a survey sending
information to administrators on the success of the presentation.
July 2011 – Teacher will begin to plan on integrating into actual lessons the information gleaned
from professional development
August 2011 – Each teacher will confer within their department creating new lessons in content
area teams integrating technology.
September 2011 – A teacher workday will be converted to a technology workday with teacher
finalizing the technology lessons into submittal lesson plans to be shared within the district.
November 2011 – Teachers will report back on the effectiveness of the new lessons.
April 2012 – New standardized test data will be collected to analyze results for the professional
development and a decision to continue the program will be made at this juncture.
